Electronic Access to Government Information A Century of Service The U.S. Government Information Division of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries became a depository library for publications of the federal government in 1893. To keep up with the current trend of the federal government to provide electronic access to information, we offer this list of useful federal agency Internet sites on the World Wide Web. We have found these sites to be user friendly, but their addresses and features may change. Federal agencies are under pressure to become self-supporting, so a possibility exists that some of these sites will not remain free, or may provide a lower level of service free and charge for a higher level. If you have a problem reaching any site please check our home page at Locating Government Sites Government Printing Office Pathway Services Search for government sites by topic or keyword. Also search the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. U.S. Government Information Division Oklahoma Department of Libraries Federal Web Locator There is a hot list of agency acronyms as well as a useful table of contents arranged by branch of government. Explore the Internet (Library of Congress) The Library of Congress provides information pages on web sites and lists contact persons. There are listings for web search tools, electronic texts, and how-to resources. Oklahoma State University Gateway to the GPO WAIS Server OSU has opened a gateway to the GPO WAIS server which offers keyword searching of the Congressional Record, Federal Register, and current legislation, and lists of other federal sites. Retrieval will deliver the full text in most cases. Federal Bulletin Board A free electronic bulletin board service of the Superintendent of Documents that federal agencies are using to distribute electronic files to the public. All downloads are free. Federal Job Information America’s Job Bank This Department of Labor site is linked to state employment offices and may be searched by keyword, location, or code. Listed jobs are both federal and private, and the service is free. Fedworld Federal Jobs Search Searches files of the Federal Office of Personnel Management and may be limited by grade or location. Updated biweekly. Business Information U.S. Business Advisor Advertised as a one stop electronic link to government for American businesses. It contains links to many other sites, and some basic forms and information. Small Business Administration Has general information on starting a business, and includes information on contacts and available money as well as hot links to many general interest business sites.< http://www.sbaonline.sba.gov/> Bureau of Labor Statistics The Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, and other economic indicators can be accessed here on the day they are issued. Occupational Safety and Health Administration What OSHA regulations do you need to comply with? This site gives you contacts and guidelines. General Sources Patents Database Basic bibliographic data and summaries of US patents issued between 1976 and one month previous to date are available for searching. Full texts of patents from March 1995 forward are available on CD-ROM at the Department of Libraries. Trademark searching is being tested but is not yet available. Financenet Government Asset Sales Check here for all sorts of government property sales, including confiscated property. Statistics Census Bureau This site offers access to data from the 1990 census forward. There is no information about individuals. Fedstats More than 70 agencies in the U.S. Federal Government produce statistics and this site gives clear links to the various websites. American Memory The Library of Congress is digitizing part of its extensive collection of primary source materials, including motion pictures, sound recordings, and early photographs. Great fun to explore. FedWorld Tax Form Search Forms may be downloaded in a variety of formats. Searchable by number or keyword in title. Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance Central source of information for available government grants and loans. Searchers who are familiar with the paper version will have greater success. Consumer Product Safety Commission This independent regulatory agency aims to reduce injuries from consumer products. Product recalls may be searched and complaints can be reported. Fun And Free The electronic lab in the U.S. Government Information Division at the Oklahoma Department of Libraries has terminals available to the public for free Internet access to federal government sites. Files printed on our laser printer cost 10¢ per page. We encourage downloading of information onto discs that we sell for 50¢ apiece. Please call or send e-mail messages if you have questions.
