william j. D'ezio, esquire it appears from the above declaration that the two were lovers. There is no dispute about his having sex with miss mars ton after he met her. In his deposition, however, he acknowledged that there was no sexual relationship between them and that they were just friends. A similar disclaimer was contained in his book (which claims to be a historical account of the life of Hester prynne with the purpose of debunking the "sex-is-dope" theory). This confession is significant because the statement is part of the record and his deposition was used as evidence. There is no evidence that he ever wrote about what he learned at his first meeting with miss mars ton.
