Witness: sentent: <|endoftext|>a couple of months ago, I spent an afternoon in the company of another local designer, Jon mollison, looking at a few models for a project, and a while later, we were talking about what should be in there about people's favorite local businesses and what the ideal ones would do and how we can improve on the ones that already exist. It's easy to forget that in most cases, when people talk about “local businesses," they're not talking about the real businesses at all, the ones that are making money on their own (which isn't to say that they don't exist!), but the very small shops that are serving their community. This is the sort of small project that i'm doing now as part of a series of projects that I'm calling, for now at least, "local love, local money”: a series of projects that i've worked on that focus not on the well known, but on the very small and seemingly random little businesses that I know about from my regular conversations with friends across the area (and occasionally from the newspaper). So rather than just a list of them, we'll be doing a piece of journalism for my website, local love, and then we'll have a blog post for each one on the business and the city of seattle. So in this piece, i want to dig into some of the tiny gems, the unique things that make our city so unique and so unique, the little businesses that, though they may not be all that well known or known widely, serve their communities in various ways, from creating job opportunities to supporting local schools and small businesses, even selling out, selling out to big food corporations. You don't have to be a seattleite to be a fan of your local baker, deli, coffee house, or flower shop. (just keep this in mind, if you're one: I don't know who owns the little flower shop down the street and I have no idea what to expect from them, so if you don't like them, please do not try to help me figure out what you should be doing.) and even if you don't live here, you can still get a sense of the work they do through the local newspapers they regularly work for (although, as it turns out, some of them are still on the hunt for a new tenant).
