What the Teacher Employment Contract Covers

A Teacher Employment Contract is a written agreement between a school employer and a teacher that sets out duties, compensation, term, benefits, evaluation and termination terms. It creates enforceable obligations for both parties, clarifies expectations (schedule, duties, certification requirements), and may reference collective bargaining agreements or district policies. Public-school contracts often interact with state education statutes and tenure or dismissal procedures, while private-school contracts remain primarily governed by contract law and the parties’ chosen governing state.

Why a Clear Contract Matters for Schools and Teachers

A well-drafted Teacher Employment Contract reduces disputes, documents agreed pay and duties, and clarifies termination and due-process rights in public systems.
