probably interest you in an Oceanfront top floor view for only 36 dollars a night or maybe a road trip night stay for only 22 dollars a night or how about a night a New York Times Square for only 160 a night today we're going to be talking about some of the value that you can get with choice and Radisson hotels let's get into some of the details nobody wants to see you stay at a 50 Rodeway Inn laughs but why does somebody talk about choice or Radisson I would say there's a couple reasons why and I'm curious what you guys think as well but I would say for the most part is because people want to see luxury and you're not going to see much luxury with these two chains maybe some but nobody wants to see somebody stay at a 50 Roadway Inn so nobody in the travel Community post about it on YouTube for example I would say that the value is less obvious and you kind of have to do some digging with them um but I'm going to be demonstrating some examples later in this video and I think these two chains are important because they are road trip and economy properties uh with some exceptions and I think that that's the majority of what people do domestically in the United States and I would say that people probably do one or two hotel stays a year on average I'm not sure about this stat but I think that's that it's more applicable to us because not everybody is striving to stay at a thousand dollar property well I would say people strive for that but it's not always Within Reach right but in the travel Community these two chains are exceptional value if you're trying to go for economy I would say um I would say that people don't talk about it too because a lot of people have bad experiences at the Choice lower end properties like the roadway ends um but you kind of get what you pay for sometimes uh you could still have a pretty good experience at one of these properties but it might be a little bit more on the lower end of quality but if you're going for a road trip that's not exactly what you're looking for most of the time and for Radisson I would say that you don't hear much about them because there aren't that many in the states um there is around 700 in the United States compared to 800 for Hyatt so they're about on the same playing field in terms of how frequent that you'll see their properties um so yeah I think that that's probably why nobody talks about these two so why these two in particular well recently there was a choice in route as a merger where Choice uh acquired Radisson Hotel Americas uh it's different from the Radisson in Europe apparently um but now Choice has acquired them and this was a recent event so it's sort of still developing but the main draw of this is that you can transfer points between choice and Radisson one choice point the two Radisson points and vice versa um this is where the value starts to come through because you can also transfer um from the major credit card issuers City American Express and I think uh two Choice and then transferred from choice to Radisson so that you kind of have fluctuation or flexibility within the currency um and like I said that's where the value starts to shine through because you have a lot of optionality so what exactly is Choice Hotels well if you if you look at the image on the bottom right you can see the logos with respect to all of the hotels that are under the choice umbrella from left to right it decreases in quality so ascending Cambria are the the two more luxury properties and I would definitely say with Choice it's quantity over quality and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing but you just gotta understand what you're going for here so what value can I get with Choice Hotels excellent question well the Points Guy evaluates their points at 0.6 cents per point I disagree with that the maximum value I've seen is 5.6 cents per point I'm going to be showing you that example later um you can definitely exceed that 0.6 Cent per point value matter of fact I rarely see that it's usually around one cent per point value in my opinion um the value that you're going to get is dependent on the location time of year events in the area day of the week vacancy time of booking Etc so what that means is that if it's a weekend if it's last minute or months in advance or there's a concert around this time um basically dependent on how full the hotel is that's gonna drive up or down the uh base level price of it um and a lot of the times especially with choice the point value required to book will not fluctuate at all um so the amount that people would pay directly will go up or down but the point value that you would pay is going to stay more or less the same that's been that's been my experience with choice at least that changes a lot more with other programs but that's something to keep in mind how you can get more Emperor point value so how does one earn Choice points well you can complete a stay directly with them and you can get increased value if you have higher status with them all the way up to 15 points per dollar you can buy points directly from them and a lot of the times there's a promotion going on um the 50 is the best that I've seen and I actually bought fifteen hundred dollars worth of points this year at that 50 off rate because I am in charge of booking my family's each vacation this year and I was able to get I think about 20 or 25 night stays there this week multiple rooms for fifteen hundred dollars and that is one of the instances where you can see that insane point value which I'll talk about later you can also earn points through the Choice credit card um they recently released a new Choice credit card uh it used to be through Barclays Barclays Barclays um and now it's issued through Wells Fargo and there are also the options for Transfer Partners like I mentioned earlier and there's also the choice dining program which you can register your credit card for online um or you can do racketon which is what I do because you can actually get uh membership rewards points with American Express uh five per dollar instead of just five Choice points per dollar Which is less flexible or five percent cash back um yeah I definitely prefer Rakuten you have to pick one or the other I would definitely pick ragutin nine times out of ten unless you really like choice but then again you could just transfer your membership rewards points to choice of the same rate so I would definitely go with that option so like I said there's new Choice credit cards available these recently got released and they have elevated welcome offers uh right now the no annual fee card there is a 60 000 Point offer pretty amazing for a no annual fee card and you have all the multipliers right there as well at the top right you can see the the Barclays uh old Choice Card which unfortunately wasn't that great um and Below you have a card that I am actually interested in getting voice privileges select card now this one does have a 95 annual fee but it's way for the first year and the welcome offer is 90 000 Choice points and you have some pretty good multipliers there as well um although I'll be showing you later that you probably don't want to be using this card for the uh Point multipliers you want to use the City premiere card but like I said I'll show you that later um you get free platinum status which isn't that great um your mileage may vary with that though um and also the two points of interest with this card and why I want it is you get a global entry into USA pre-check credit um and you also get 30k points each card member year so just for having the card you'll get uh 30k points which if you divide that by the annual fee that's about like point three cent per point which I was willing to pay .7 cents per Point earlier so I definitely want this card for that reason because I find a lot of value in these points so let's talk about the Transfer Partners your options are American Express City or now I would always opt for City if you have an option because the ratio is one to two as opposed to one to one with the other issuers um and if you have the city setup and all the cards at your disposal you get pretty insane value so the City premiere card right now has an offer for 75 000 city thank you points and if you also have the rewards Plus card you will get a 10 rebate on all of your points that you transfer over um so 75 000 city thank you points actually turns into 165 000 Choice points which is insane um and down here at the bottom right I have a table of the amount of money that you would have to spend on each card to get a free night at one of their cheapest properties just some math there for an idea of say you would spend 720 on the city custom cash card to get um 7200 voice Hotel points which would well after the 10 rebate that would be enough to stay at one of the properties let's talk about what card you want to do your spend on if you want to earn Choice points so down below you'll see in white how many points you'll get per dollar if you spend on the City premiere card on the right you'll see how many points you'll get if you spend on the Choice Privileges select card now in every category except for Choice stays direct you'll get more points with the City premiere so you want to opt your spend onto the City premiere card if you have it I also want to mention too that if you have the city custom Cash Card you're going to be getting 11 points per dollar spent on whatever category you choose now the 11 points per dollar reminder comes from you're gonna get a base five city thank you points which if you have the rewards Plus card that you get a 10 buff on that so it's 5.5 percent back and that would go to a one to two ratio to 11 uh Choice points are you confused yet but yeah um you definitely want to be spending on your city cards if you want to be earning points so status voice status is it worth it I don't know I haven't had much luck with it um I hope that you do because you can get diamond status if you just stay at a Cambria property and then uh send an email to this email address requesting status match um The Diamond status will get you more points per dollar if you spend directly with them um and you'll also get a complimentary room upgrade which I don't know what the success with that is like if you're staying at a Roadway Inn I don't know what your upgrade options are gonna be maybe there's a Whirlpool room or a suite available but I highly doubt that you're going to get a lot of value from Choice status but it doesn't hurt to have so let's get into some of the examples um for choice you have a 10 000 Point night stay here you probably can't see that because my camera's blocking it um but ten thousand points for a stay and for retail it runs at 168 dollars and if you're using points and you're buying it at the highest discounted rate of 50 it's only going to be 69 dollars so about 1.7 cents per point and if you were to uh do the math backwards here for the city points it's going to be close to like 3.4 or 3.5 uh it depends if you have the rewards Plus card um cents per point um yeah so this is just one example where you can get some really good value and then this is where I'm going to be staying uh this year um this is going to be at Ocean City and for retail it runs at about 450 a night now if you use points and you buy points directly with the lowest discounted rate it's gonna be about 55 a night so that's where this insane value comes from and this is why I wanted to make this video but I've never heard anybody talk about this but people are paying 450 a night for this beach day and I just got it for 55 a night so I wanted to share that information with you guys so hopefully a beach trip could be in your future um if you just do some exploring on the choice or Radisson website let me know if you guys find any value similar to this because this is madness and I hope to inform more people about this but then again maybe if more people know about it they'll take advantage of it and it won't be around anymore because honestly I think this is a mistake because this is just insane value insane insane and here is one more example this is in New York City at one of the higher end properties in Times Square it's at a Cambria property retail it's about 530 a night if you use points 204 a night if you buy the points directly at the best available rate um yeah this is just an example where you can get some uh severely discounted value um if you just buy points directly instead of staying there because I don't think that you're going to have much luck getting a hotel for cheaper than like 400 in Times Square on a weekend so yeah another example let's talk about Radisson so Radisson um their lower end properties are not going to be nearly as bad as choices of lower end properties so you're gonna mostly see Country Inn and Suites that's the most common one in my experience and they're pretty nice you know it's it's it's a pretty nice and you're gonna see that you're gonna get the most value because you only have to redeem 22 dollars of cash back with City to get a night stay at one of these Radisson properties um and also it's about 600 to 700 hotels in the United States I think that's worldwide that was my mistake um so the value with Radisson America's um it's listed as 0.5 cents per point I strongly disagree again and I'm going to give you some examples to where you can get really good value the most I've seen is 2.6 cents per point so kind of similar to what you were seeing with the beach stay um in terms of the center point value reminder that that was 5.2 cents per point with choice so two to one is going to be 2.6 with Radisson so similar value um the amount of points required to stay a night with Radisson 10 000 to 75 000 that's the range now if you remember the ratios 10 000 Radisson points is going to be about 2500 city thank you points if you have the rewards Plus card it goes down to 2250. so 22.50 of cash back for one hotel night stay insane here's a list on the East Coast because that's kind of where I live of some properties for Radisson that you could stay at that are 10 to 15K per night so all of these have the option to be 10K it just depends on the availability if it's not as available and it's more booked it's going to be 15K which is still not the worst value but everything you see on here you could stay at one of these for 10 000 points which again is about 22 dollars in cashback value insane so how do you earn Radisson points I would say uh the best way to do it is similar to the choice setup um but you can book directly with them and get pretty good value if you have status with them you can also buy Radisson points directly but reminder about the ratios 0.7 cents per point with Radisson is going to be 1.4 Cent per point with choice which if you recall a choice even when they don't have a promo it's about one cent per point so you probably don't want to buy the Radisson points unless they have this 50 or 100 off promo um yeah you can buy routes in American points and transfer them to choice you can transfer one to one you just can't transcribe the city points unfortunately but the interesting thing about Radisson which is another reason why I don't think anybody talks about them is that there is no direct transfer partner to Radisson um in the American Radisson America at least um you have to transfer to choice to Radisson so that might be why nobody knows about this either because it's relatively new um but yeah I just want to inform you guys so you can take advantage so this is a similar slide to what the setup was with choice this is just illustrating the amount of money that you'd have to spend on each card to get a night stay at the cheapest property and then the more expensive properties um yeah same deal as Choice pretty much so as far as Radice and Status goes I think you can probably get more value out of it than with choice and to get Radisson status it's super easy you just need to have a high Hotel status with another program I have Diamond status with Hilton because of the Hilton Aspire card and I was able to status match uh to what is it Platinum yeah Platinum with Radisson until February 2024 down in this email here um you can get that done by just emailing this um this email here and then just give them proof that you have status with another program so now we have the Radisson examples and you're going to see this one right here it's going to run you about a hundred dollars a night um and it's going to be 10 000 Radisson points uh a reminder that that's about 22.50 of city thank you points um or you can spend thirty four dollars if you get the highest discounted rate by buying Choice points directly and transferring them to Radisson so by far I think that this is the cheapest hotel stay that I think you can possibly get for 22.50 if you if you take advantage of city and even if you just buy points directly thirty four dollars a night is insane um I have considered just like living at one of these properties just because it would be about what twelve hundred dollars a night and some of them you get free breakfast that's pretty wild or twelve hundred dollars a month did I say a night twelve hundred dollars a month um but yeah this is just one of those examples where you can get insane value uh through these Transfer Partners and whatnot and moving into the next one this one is around Rochester New York uh it's gonna be around 260 dollars a night and this one is also for ten thousand points um and if you do the math back again it's gonna be similar value to that beach trip that I mentioned earlier yeah you're spending uh 22 worth of cash back with City uh to get 260 dollars in value absolutely nuts and again if you uh get the cheapest discounted points rate it's going to be thirty four dollars so I don't want you guys to miss on this value Radisson and choice make up a big portion of the big hotel chains in America and it unlocks countless road trip potential to have these at your disposal you have the option to go to any small town around you and there's going to be a good chance that there's a choice or a Radisson property nearby domestically it really helps with the cost whenever you don't have to worry about the cost of hotels as much so really hope you guys enjoyed and uh let me know what you think let me
