 PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT REVIEW DISCUSSION GUIDE The phases involved in planning, monitoring and reviewing your work and development are listed below. Initially you may want to review the previous year’s work before planning for the future. Planning Discussion BEGINNING OF CYCLE You and your supervisor/manager should prepare notes on the following questions before you meet. Discuss them and prepare an agreed set of work and development objectives for the period.  What are the main objectives for the company and unit in the next 12 months that relate to my work?  What are my main work and development objectives for the next 12 months? How will I know if I have achieved the objectives?  What problems or resource issues do I foresee in the next 12 months? How might they be resolved?  What are the consequences for the unit and myself if I don’t achieve these objectives?  What specific work and development objectives have been agreed?  What are the workload implications? These objectives should be recorded and signed by you and the supervisor/manager. Set a date to reflect on progress and to address changes in priorities, or problems. Career Development and Future Goals (Optional) You and your supervisor/manager should prepare notes on the following questions and discuss them to reach an agreed set of key actions  How does my work development plan fit with my long-term career goals or future transition from work goals?  What actions do I need to take to develop my performance and achieve the company’s goals and my own goals?  What assistance will the company provide to assist me to achieve my work, career and future goals? What initiatives do I need to take to achieve my work, career and future goals? Interim Monitoring an d Feedback CONDUCTED DURING THE CYCLE You and your supervisor/manager should discuss progress against the objectives set at the beginning of the cycle. What work and development outcomes have been achieved so far? On what do you base that conclusion? What is still underway or not yet started? Do the objectives need to be changed or given a different priority? (Consider whether the unit’s objectives or resources have changed.) Are there outside events, which have impacted on my work achievements? Please record the feedback on progress to date and any changes in objectives. Set a date for future monitoring discussions that suits the time frame for your work. Review CONDUCTED ON AGREED REVIEW DATE Within 12 months of commencing the Planning and Development Review program you and your supervisor / manager should review your achievements against the goals set in the planning stage and provide feedback to each other about the way in which the work and development goals were met. You and the supervisor/manager should record these outcomes and feedback.
