How to eSign a document: eSignature legality for Independent Contractor Agreement

everyone in today's video I'll show you exactly how to create an independent contractor agreement this is a very common but useful form that most entrepreneurs will need to have especially if you hire independent contractors for your business every time I hire someone for my business as an independent contractor this is the exact process I take to create my icas having a document like this is imperative because it's really going to protect you as the employer now I want to preface this video by saying the method that I'm talking about can be free by setting up for the one week trial so yes you can create Stockman for free but they have a really good deal going on for their yearly subscription allowing you to create unlimited documents just like this so what you're going to want to do is go to bit.lease law Depot forms and that's going to take you to this exact page right here from here we will search independent contractor agreements we'll select that and from here it's going to ask you a few questions now I've tried to find free forms online and I'll say it's actually really really hard and they're not of good quality and since this is a very important parts of your business to have some type of contract like this I definitely recommend especially if you are hiring multiple people to just sign up for law Depot it's really really cheap and you'll be able to create forms like this anytime you want so the first question is what type of service will the contractor provide and of course everyone's watching this it's going to be different so just tailor this to your specific business but let's say we are doing office and admin and then I'll click create my independent contractor agreement next it's going to ask you for your location so you'll choose which state you're in I'm California so I'll select California click save and continue after that's going to ask you for the duration so more specifically when the contract is going to end I will just leave this as is for now and click save and continue next we can actually say what the contractor is being hired to do so I can do that in attached documents or I can actually just describe that service right now let's say I am hiring a virtual assistant you guys can be more detailed if you want say I want to have them compile data from X Project as many as you want and then I can click save and continue after that I'm going to select the contractor details so if it's an individual or if it's a corporation or organization if it's a person will put their name here I'll just put my name as well as their address after that I'll click save and continue that's going to ask who's hiring the contractor so we'll select the individual or corporation that does that let's say it's Charlie Chang company let's say address save and continue I definitely recommend you know filling all these in you can skip these but it's going to be better if it's more specific here we can add in the billing details so if you want to do a flat fee hourly rate let's say I'm getting paid 20 an hour no tax and soon continue to ask if there's a retainer in this case we'll just say no the last for payment details so when will the contractor be paid let's say it's every two weeks let's say continue late payments we can change this as needed there's a percentage we can add that in save and continue and in the contract early can either party end the contract early that's going to depend on you let's say yes and we will need 10 days of written notes and we can change this here if either party wants to end the contract early written Knows X days must begin so we'll just leave it as 10. do you want to include a warranty let's say no will The Client reimburse reasonable work related expenses yes or no depending on your business will expenses need to be pre-approved by the client yes or no intellectual property will the contractor own any of the intellectual property created under this contract probably not so we'll have it selected as clients will receive complete ownership so that's you the person that's hiring then we have confidentiality we'll say yes indefinitely do you want to include any additional information say yes or no for now we'll say no when will this contract be signed you guys can select unsure or you can actually specify a date our witness is required you can select yes or no and yeah that's going to pre-populate all those things it's going to create that independent contractor agreement for you we can look through here you can see they have all these different things yeah that's basically how you create an independent contractor agreement super super fast so once that's done of course we're going to select a license and like I said earlier you guys can do a trial subscription for a free week of their service you can create and print as many documents as you want within that free week but it is going to renew at 35 per month you guys can also do a one-time charge of 54 for this agreement I don't recommend doing that or you can go with a one-year Pro subscription for about nine dollars a month and that's also going to allow you to create as many documents as you need within that year yeah you'll select whichever one works for you and then you'll be able to export and download that form from there on I recommend using something like PDF Escape or or you can actually just print it out and have them signed by hand but you know I don't recommend that that's a bit harder and once it's signed by both parties I recommend making a copy getting it to the contractor and retaining one copy for your own records again if you guys are hiring independent contractors I definitely recommend having forms like this in contracts like this in place it'll protect you a lot if anything goes wrong yeah that's basically how you create an independent contractor agreement again the link to law Depot is going to be down below if you guys are hiring a lot I just recommend getting the full when your pro subscription you'll have to you guys can go with the trial subscription for one week but yeah overall I really love law Depot for all of my legal agreements and contracts that I create I really think you guys will love them as well anyways I hope you guys found this video helpful if you guys enjoy it make sure to hit that like button and also subscribe for more content just like this this whole channel is dedicated at giving you guys free guides and tutorials helping you start up your business thank you for your time I'll see you in the next video
