hello I hope you're in fine voice now as a voiceover artist you're freelance you're very much a little business operating on your own and that means you've got to keep accounts profit and loss and so on and deal with the tax authorities and one of the basics is actually creating an invoice and a lot of people want to know if they haven't done it before because they've been salaried and on the staff how do you create a voiceover invoice to send to your client here's a simple way [Music] the key to creating a successful invoice is is really to keep it as simple as possible so in this case I've just called it invoice I thought that was as good a name as any and uh if you have got a logo of course you must uh stick that in the corner make yourself look a bit more Pro but it doesn't matter if you haven't got one uh the client's not going to be bothered so your name goes in the top right there and then your address telephone number perhaps underneath if you if you want to be contacted perhaps that's a good idea vat number only if you're registered so you need to have a turnover in the UK of about £80,000 a year so if you're earning £80,000 from your your voiceovers well done and um that's the only time really you will need to to be vet registered but hopefully that that'll happen one day and it's it's turnover as well not profit too so you'll be amazed how quickly that that can come along then on the left hand side we've got the name of the company that uh your in other words your customer and then their address there you don't need to put their phone number of course tax point now this is basically the date that you are raising the invoice on so it's today basically is when you when you're producing this invoice so put today's date and that's different if we just go down a little bit different from the date of the voiceover job unless you happen to do it on the same day of course so basically uh there are two different dates or can be two different dates now sometimes a company will give you a purchase order particularly larger companies and they will say the purchase the PO number is such and such so make a note of that and put that down it really does help speed up the process of getting paid but for smaller clients they probably won't have one and especially not individuals of course on the right hand side here uh the fee just your basic fee how much you're charging 100 quid 50 Quid whatever it is for your job then we go down into the next segment and we've got net so that's your fee without any vat vat underneath that uh currently that's 20% here in the UK uh and obviously again you mustn't add that unless you're registered and then we've got the total here and that's your gross fee so that is your fee plus 20% or not and that's your total so then underneath you want to get paid this is how to get paid you need to put your bank details here don't worry about putting your bank details down to your client uh don't put your password obviously and things like that but just your your basic details for a bank transfer a backx transfer uh would be very useful and very quick and um also you can put another option which is Paypal I really recommend you get a PayPal account if you haven't got one because that means you can accept credit cards and then look at this payment terms I've put 30 days but if you want it shorter than that uh good luck uh but the normal sort of rate the the normal time uh laps if you like it is 30 days so that's pretty standard in in British business and and internationally as well but at least put that down because that's when you expect it uh I mean you may want to put payment terms uh on receipt of invoice I mean you may want to put that uh particularly maybe for for smaller jobs and smaller companies but I think certainly 30 days is is an acceptable amount so there we go that's how to produce an invoice so if you think about it being a voice actor a voiceover artist isn't very different to running any other sort of business really so try and think along those business lines and also raising an invoice in a professional way uh is a great idea I think all right thank you very much for watching today look after your voice and see you next [Music] time
