Hello. Today we're going to walk through how to understand the HFS Statement of Account page. Every student who lives on campus has an HFS Statement of Account separate from their UW tuition statement. The easiest way to get to your HFS Statement of Account is by navigating to your MyHFS home page from the main HFS website. Then click 'View your HFS Statement of Account' under the Account Resources heading. Read the table from left to right. The first row tells you what each column is for, which I'll explain in a minute. The next row, where it says Balance Forward, tells you any amount owed or credit on your account before the date in the box above. Each row after that tells you about transactions on your account such as charges, credits or payments. Now I'll explain the columns. The DOC DATE column shows the date a transaction was posted on your account. So if you made a payment, the date it was received would be the date in this column. The DOC NUMBER column is used primarily for internal purposes. Definitions for each kind of transaction can be found in the video description. The DESCRIPTION column gives a brief description of what the transaction is. For example, your autumn quarter housing charge would be labeled 'Autumn Housing Charge.' The CHARGES column shows the amount to be paid to HFS. The CREDITS column shows what has been paid on your account. Examples of payments may include payments you've made, a payment someone else made, or financial aid money transferred to HFS from your financial aid account. The bottom right corner of your statement is the most up-to-date amount due. Anything in parentheses indicates a credit balance on the account. You can make a payment by clicking the 'Make a housing payment' link. It may take up to two business days for payments to show on your HFS Statement of Account. If you need an official copy of your statement for tax, residency or other documentation purposes, this is it. You can look at past charges by changing the 'View account history' box to a date in the past. Remember to sign up for direct deposit with HFS. This is the safest, fastest and easiest way to get any refunds and your housing deposit back to your bank account of choice.
