what is the secret formula or science that makes a great service advisor it's a combination of a couple things service advisors have to be people people they have to like people i mean if you have a service advisor who likes cars but doesn't like people they can know everything in the world about cars and they are going to slow the shop down or stop sales people by people so when we're hiring the service advisor we're looking for somebody who's really high emotionally toned meaning that they are happy and they do like people and they communicate well they're trustworthy they're honest they really really have this desire to help and their vehicle that they help is by helping people make decisions about auto repair finding the right people is key and we teach a lot a lot about how to hire people because it is the key of any business the human resources area of the shop has got to be really good at finding these higher tone individuals obviously skill set and sales is gonna you know differentiate from person to person but the second piece to that is having the system dialed in on how you present the work you know getting into good communication and knowing when we need to give them some information about pricing and when we need to really sell them on coming in to allow us to look at the car and being good at that part of being a good service advisor is having all the information from the technician and then making sure that they understand what they're selling there is certain things when you're learning about the communication formula that a service advisor if they don't know they're going to either talk over a customer or they're not going to allow the customer to finish what they're saying and they're not going to get the information or they're not going to pick up on the indicators that the customer either isn't listening or doesn't understand them it's all part of the presentation but the presentation doesn't start at i have the estimate done and now i'm calling the customer it's all part of the process that we teach and making sure that we're dotting all our eyes and we're crossing all of our teas and ideally we're making one call one sale they did a study years ago with dealerships and they asked why customers got upset and why they left the dealership and the number one reason was communication but the one thing that's different about us than most is that we've broken down the service advisor specifically to certain duties and that alone will increase the average ro will increase the customer service we'll improve the google reviews we'll increase the number of new customers coming in because that service advisor has the time they need and has the communication skills that they need to get somebody in the door and overall the whole customer experience you've got customers for life [Music]
