hi I'm Peter champion of Kallstrom dot-com business solutions in this demonstration I will setup a word template to work with the content type that are created in previous demos in this series I'm going to start by creating a new cantos or quote in this library and as you see this opens up in word online and I'm going to click it on here on edit in word that's going to open it in Microsoft Word of course the first time I need to log in in Word 2013 and earlier there used to be something called the documents information panel that is no longer supported so you can't get that anymore if you around the word 2016 as I am here another problem that you might notice here is that this document was opened after read-only the reason for that was that I was using edge an edge doesn't really support the round-trip working with SharePoint US Internet Explorer does so we're going to log into the same site with Internet Explorer and continue there we'll see that that works better find the team sites that I'm working on and then go into my quotes library now I'll do exactly the same that I did before I will create a new quote that will open up in word online and then when I open that in word you'll notice that it's no longer read-only however the document information panel is of course not there even if I'm using another browser to view the properties of this document you slide down here and click on show all properties there you'll see that those fields and then I created the quote date and the decision that you can actually fill those out there it gives you that very nice will drop down there here as the decision also that I created so let's just say that it would this one was declined all right so some of these properties are up here and the related dates are down here in order to create a template for this as you see it's just using a normal blank document now and that might not be optimal I'm going to create my default layout let's just put a very nice logo up there in this page header and then I'm going to create a table where I wanted the information to be displayed this is regular word stuff I want the quote date there the decision date the value on the decision now I want those values to be inside my document not just hidden there and the properties where I showed them before I'm going to insert something called a which part now I can go into the document properties and find the dates there and as you see those dates are the same one so frm the file properties so that's rather powerful be quick part document property and the decision date and then I'll add the value and finally the decision against the nice little drop down there also it's very good now I can save this as a template let me do that save us I'm not going to save it back to my SharePoint library I'm going to save it into my desktop and call out a quote template this is the one I want and to be used whenever I create a new quote so close that of course I didn't save it back here so this document is still empty so let's just remove that document for now because that was never used instead I'm going to go back into my site settings find the content type that I'm using which is a course in my canto so group there's the contoso quote and I'm going to go into the advanced setting for that and say that when I create a new item or a new quote then I'm going to use this particular document template this is interesting as you see I get an error message there this error message is because I don't have scripting enabled on this particular the SharePoint site collection is the default site collection in SharePoint tenants so I need to enable that scripting in another way you can see this that the scripting is not enabled if I go into my site settings notice that there are quite a few things missing here under web designer galleries you don't also do not have the ability to save this site as a template those are all things you can do if you have scripting enabled so let's go to the SharePoint admin center and one of the many settings that exists here if the scripting enabled that's disabled by default I'm going to go in and enable that now and here's the custom script section I want to allow users to run a custom script on self service created sites this is of course the first one that Microsoft created for me so it's not so service created but still it has that setting so if I click OK then it's going to take a while for that to take effect so we'll take a break there but eventually we'll see more of the settings here and then I can continue setting up my template now after a couple hours I can continue this demo and I'll go into site content types again and find my content type that I'm working on in the contoso group and under advanced settings of that content type I'll be able to upload a new document template choose the one I put on my desktop and press ok and now that scripting is enabled on this side everything should work perfectly there we go so that's that now we can go in and test this if I create a new item here until so close let's word online as you see here I'm using the new template so that works but of course I don't want to have the user have to quick edit in word instead I want the user to just automatically get into word I'm going to change that setting that's under here on the library settings and under advanced settings I'll say that the opening documents that should be done by the clients application so let's use that ok let's try it again now you see it's opening directly in Word and I can go in and edit this let's log in again there we go let's put a value in there 5,000 and default value should be undecided then I close that down and I'm calling that close to fresh this page in Internet Explorer and we'll see that this pulling out the values that I wrote there in the $5,000 so now we have enabled a word template to work with my new content types so that concludes this demo in the next demo I'll show you how to reuse this and put a lot of work into this quotes demo now we want another site to be able to use it so I'm going to show you that in the next demo thank you for
