welcome back you guys my name is gia and today we're going to talk about louis vuitton date codes explained very simple um so if you want to either get your pen and paper out and write this down or if you know i'm gonna share a link below of the country code so that way you know when you look at your bags what those letters mean and where they were manufactured and also i'm going to put a link below of the day code checker so you can also check on your online to see if those at least the code is is real doesn't mean your handbag's real um if it says that the you know the date code is good but it was made in the usa and your bag says made in france it's most likely probably not authentic it's not matching up so so let's get started okay so if you own a vintage pre-lab bag and it does not have a date code don't panic because back in the day louis vuitton did not use date codes pre-1982 so that doesn't mean that yours is not authentic just means that it may be um it was probably manufactured and made pre-1982 okay there's other ways to authenticate the bag but from 1982 to the mid-80s they decided to add a date code and this date code had three to four numbers and it was the month and the year so they would put the month at the end and they put the year in the front so if it was for example this one where it says it's 8 23 on your bag that means they go by the last number for the month which is march because it's a three and then the first two numbers then would be the year so it was march 1982 if it was you know october it would have said 82 10. then in the mid 1980s to the late 1980s they then decided to add the country code or the the where the was manufactured and they separated it into two areas and which was the first when it was made and then where it was made so in this example they have 894 and see how that's all by itself and that would be april 1989 then on the other hardware part of it it would say the country code this one being f c which was then made in the usa so it was made in the usa april 1989. then from 1990 to 2006 they decided to put the country code in the front so then now you would have the country code and they put them together so for this example they have ar 1 zero zero four and that means ar if you look at the country code it was made in france and remember now for this we're gonna do the first and the third number as the month and the second and the fourth number as the year so it kind of just skips okay so one and three is the month so here we have 1004 so we're gonna go one and then we're gonna go skip the second one and go to the third which is a zero so we have one and zero so that means it was made in france in october and then you go by the second and the fourth which is o4 2004 so france october 2004 then from 2006 to 2021 they took out the month and added the week of manufacturing instead in place of that so then you so in this example you'll see here they have s d 1132 that means the sd code is made in the usa and then you're going to go by the first and third number again that would be 13 and then the second and fourth number would be 12. so it was made in the usa on the 13th week in 2012. so that's how you read date codes and like i said i'm going to share the link below so you can look up your you know country codes and you can also do the the date code checker that will be below as well and um comment below let me know um if you came across one that by looking at your bags that you thought maybe was authentic and you you checked it and the date code said no go that just that doesn't even exist um or if you thought you had a one you bought it you weren't really sure you know i bought it like from a sec you know a hand-me-down or you bought it at a you know an auction or something you're not really sure about the density while you can go check on that date code checker and then kind of like i said there's other ways to authenticate as well but that does help and if you like this video please hit the like button please hit that subscribe button and i look forward to seeing you guys again you guys all take care bye
