What do you like best?

There are many digital signature softwares out there, but I like airSlate SignNow because they allow you to send a link to contracts. Most other platforms make you send the contract to email addresses that you put in the system. This is a great feature and makes life so much easier.

Proforma format for Product Management

hello everyone and welcome to my channel my name is diego cornados and i'm a product manager i'm here to help you understand more about product management how to transition into the role and how to prepare for your upcoming interviews in today's video i want to talk about some of the things that you can do to maximize your chances to getting your resume reviewed by a recruiter and getting a call back over the last four years i've interviewed many candidates and i've reviewed over thousands of resumes and i still see some of the most common mistakes being done over and over again don't forget to check the description down below where i'm going to post some links to templates that you can use and other tools that are going to help you maximize your chances of getting that call back from the recruiters do you know how much time recruiters spend looking at your resume some studies show that it's somewhere between five and seven seconds here's what six seconds of looking at a resume feels like it was fast right that's why it's so important that your resume is very well crafted before submitting it don't worry i'll help you get there step by step a company called the ladders did an eye tracking study to see how recruiters scan a resume in 6 or 7 seconds here are their findings this study suggested that the worst performing resumes shared some common traits first a cluttered look and feel and very little white space second poor layout that didn't clearly identify sections like education and job headers and third evidence of keyword stopping adding keywords can help you get through the automated scanning but if they're not used wisely within the context the recruiters will probably not give you a call so let's start from the top what can you do to improve your chances on getting a recruiter to look at your resume and give you a call when it comes to the format recruiters are looking at resumes to see who could be a good fit for the product management role based on past experience however don't forget to be yourself throughout the whole recruitment process i prefer a more simple version without colors but if you want to add some style just don't go too crazy with it remember that the resume is about you not about your design in the description below i'm leaving you a few links where you can pick up some templates for your resume my recommendation is to not pick anything too crazy remember that colors won't set you apart but a resume with good format and showing the impact on your accomplishments and other topics we'll review next will definitely do unless you have 10 or more years of experience don't use more than one page on your resume remember that requests are going to look at your resume for six or seven seconds and now you're asking them to look at more than one page also don't try to cheat by reducing the font size so that it gets to a point where recruiters have to use a magnifying glass make sure that everything is very easy to read in 6 or 7 seconds clear distinction between the different sections in your resume are gonna help recruiters to quickly identify the keywords or phrases they're looking for in your experience or your education so let's talk about the different sections that your resume should have there are many opinions on what sections you should include so i'll tell you mine and i'll tell you what i've seen that works and what i've seen in other product manager resumes the first thing to add at the top is information about you at the very least you should have besides your name obviously contact information like your phone number and email as well as your address some people like to add websites a link to their linkedin or github pages do you need to add this not really there is no harm in adding it as long as your resume still looks clean another important thing is that i don't recommend adding a photo to your resume i actually think most of us don't it ends up taking space in your resume and it's actually not needed number two education make sure you list your degrees starting with the most recent ones did you receive a scholarship add it to your resume did you lead any school clubs or initiatives or maybe you organized an event about technology or in any way related to product management make sure you add some of the extracurricular activities that you did and if you don't have an impressive gpa just like me don't worry about not adding it recruiters won't be asking why you don't have it in your resume number three work experience start with your most recent experience and have your company's name if the company is a startup or is not very well known add a small description next to the name to let the recruiters know what the company does nothing more than a couple words make sure you add your different job titles and dates that you held that position this will show progression and it's actually important finally list all your accomplishments for each role and this is very important let's talk about your achievements and how to describe them each bullet point in your job experience should be one or two lines three is stretching it too much one of the most common mistakes candidates do here is that they describe what the role was instead of listing their accomplishments or achievements so how do you do it then well every line starts with a verb in past tense describes what you did not your job description and measures the impact you had and measuring impact can be for example about increasing revenue or saving costs about improving performance reducing time in the process or increasing customer satisfaction among many others there are so many other things that you can measure the impact on but make sure that it is quantifiable and you add a number to it whenever it's possible here's what not to do don't add a bullet point that says worked or developed a customer website automation that's the job description and here's how we can improve it depending on your involvement in the project you could say lev or worked or developed an engineering and marketing initiative to automate the customer registration process reducing the processing time by 60 in this example you have to reverb in past tense describe what you did and measure the impact of course this is a made-up example but hopefully gives you an idea on how to transform a bullet point that sounds like a job description into something that you can measure the impact on now if you feel that the list is getting long and your resume is starting to be more than one page look at some of your first very early roles or achievements and follow elsa's advice let it go focus on the most recent roles that probably are giving you much more experience applicable to product management and number four additional information while the main content should be focused on education and work experience you can have skills volunteering that you may have done interests languages online degrees and certifications or projects that you have worked on this section helps recruiters understand more about who you are beyond your work experience and education and what about a summary and objective or a headline well i strongly recommend that you don't have any of these sections in those six or seven seconds that the recruiter has to look at your resume you want them to focus on the keywords the phrases your accomplishments and things about your education and your past experience and to me these type of extra sections actually just take a bunch of space that you could use to add more accomplishments the templates that you'll find below in the description are customizable so make sure that you remove some of these sections that i just mentioned your resume is in many cases the first impression that a recruiter will have of you so i recommend that before submitting that resume to an application you double and triple check all your grammar your spelling and your punctuation and while this may sound obvious i've seen countless of resumes with some of the most basic mistakes two of the most common mistakes that i've seen are sometimes ending a sentence with a period and sometimes not adding anything to it or using bullet points in one of your jobs and nothing in the rest all of these little details matter and show that you care about the process alright alright now that we know how to improve our resume how do we make sure that it's actually good for a product management role recruiters and hiring managers are looking at all of these resumes to make sure that the candidates that they're bringing into the interviews would be a good fit for the role so what kind of skills do they look for in these resumes in my other video what is product management i talk about some of the skills that pms need on their day-to-day activities so go and check it out if you want to learn more about product management the most common skills that hiring managers and recruiters are looking for in these resumes are first working cross-functionally as a product manager you'll be working every day with so many other disciplines that hiring managers are looking for somebody who has the experience of working across multiple teams so if you have any projects where you collaborated with other teams definitely add those to your resume and if you work with engineering even better number two leading and influencing without authority remember that product managers typically don't have any direct reports but you'll have to convince other disciplines like engineering and data science and design and so many others to align everyone towards the same goal did you leave any initiatives within your team or whether you create a startup or work on a project leading in multiple groups everything counts number three analytical skills and being data driven as a product manager you're going to use data and you will get a ton of data and you'll use this data to influence others so maybe you use data at work to create a project or improve a marketing campaign or do a financial analysis try to make sure that you show how you use the data and don't forget show the impact of your project and number four last but not least communication and customer interaction product managers communicate all the time with everyone with your group with other groups with customers and even with some c-level executives and don't forget that customers are not always external so in your resume you can add something that another business unit requested or something that another group is asking you help with don't forget that there are a lot of transferable skills there may be other skills that hiring managers and recruiters will be looking for but those will depend a little bit more on specific roles that you're applying to now with what i showed you today is it enough to apply to a product management role in short yes but there's one more thing that you can do to increase your chances even more while there are product management skills that are common across pm roles the truth is that every role is kind of unique and tailoring your resume to these specific roles is gonna increase your chances to get a call back but what exactly does tailoring your resume means well in essence you're gonna look at the job description you're gonna find what are some of the most repeated or frequent keywords and phrases then you're gonna look at your resume and try to adapt some of your stories some of the successes and the impact that you had to those keywords and those phrases that you found the most common in the job description in the description below i'm gonna leave you a link to a website that is to help you with this tailoring your resume to a specific job and here's an example of how it works thank you so much for watching i hope you liked this video and learned something new today leave a comment down below with what are your tips on creating a resume or whether you struggle or what questions you have about creating a product management resume and don't forget to like and subscribe and i'll see you next time [Music] you
