Reminder for outstanding payment for Product Management
oh my goodness this company's product manager pay is unbelievable average is 512. median is 565k here are 24 of the top product manager salaries from 24 of the top companies that pay outrageous piles of money starting with where I work the Googs let's break it down on levels.fyi they verify pay stubs so it's legit and most importantly broken down by product manager levels this was part of my recent guest lecture at MIT that I'll be giving away completely here on this channel all right 163k not okay 163 000 to 433 000 for an L6 senior product manager I was in L6 and I can't say what I made because I had extra stock from an exit but if you dig into an L6 senior PM this looks about right very fair and you can see that the range is big for each level 350 to over 500k here you'll also notice as you move up the ladder of levels that the pay range widens your stock compensation also goes way up which many websites don't list to the point where your stocks could be worth more than your base pay sixfigure.com uses verified data from payroll firms it's also fantastic and this video is not sponsored I just searched about a dozen job websites for this video and most have garbage information when it comes to product manager jobs I'll link my sub stack article below with more details on how to find accurate info on product manager salaries for yourself now average total comp is a whopping 375 K's a year ranging from 260k to 1.1 million the median is 318k and the median is great to look at because it is closer to what most actual product managers make when you have a few product manager roles that are group PMS directors or even VPS these roles at Giant companies are closer to a CEO of a decent sized company and so lumping in a few of the these million dollar salaries is really fun to see but it can make the averages over inflated so looking at the median brings it back to reality when you have a few of these extreme salaries in the data set all right Amazon a bit less average is 281 K's median 254. mostly ranging from 220 to 6 96k ing to six figure now let's look at the levels Amazon product manager L5 is 180 to a principal pm at 400k right now you might be thinking wait you just showed me a Google L6 PM making 433k why is an L6 on Amazon only 250. well levels are all made up there's no standard every company is different as far as I can tell their only use is so that employees can gossip and speculate and take an individual's entire worth as a human being and degrade it to a level in a respectable way of course in this this case one that averages about 250k a year so an L6 senior product manager at Amazon might only make 250k but their job function might be exactly the same as an L4 product manager at Google and this level comparison on levels.fyi is about the job function and has nothing to do with pay but it just happens that a Google L4 might have the same responsibilities as an Amazon L6 and they also make about 250k confused it's okay levels are chaos and Microsoft you might be a level 62 63 or 64 which goes from 195 to 255. here's levels 172 up to 391 for a 66 principal PM before you become a group PM well here's a modest 4.5 million dollar house in Palo Alto it's smaller than my house now I do not live in the Bay versus a literal 10 000 square foot mansion in Redmond Washington and now Microsoft is looking like the best life ever location changes everything so an average of 234k mostly from 2 to 700k means a heck of a lot more outside of the San Francisco Bay area and all of these differences make it really hard to answer how much does a product manager make it breaks the internet I'm not going to mention any names Glassdoor salary.com super recruiter and comparably which have wildly low averages for product manager salaries you're not getting a tech product manager for 35k in the US comparably not gonna happen in Glassdoor a PM specialist at U-Haul or a project manager at most non-tech companies is not the same as a product manager the job description here is very different levels.fyi has the median product manager comp at 199k with half making between 147 and 270. six figure.com has a median at 196k with 12 000 verified profiles with a majority making between 100K and 300K what do you all think is 200k accurate for a median stripe is known for top paying jobs levels shows 256 to 611 wow for a senior pm and six figures shows even higher 395k to 747 in case with 20 verified profiles they do have a lot of experienced PMS in this data set this is also a really good example of why most job websites completely failed PMS there's new laws in California and New York for disclosing pay on job posts but they don't need to disclose stock or bonus compensation so stripe has a job opening with a salary range of 185 to 250k but 250k doesn't mean much when their total comp could be well over 600 MKS that's if the job posing is even real that's a whole nother story meta 170 to 441k for a L6 PM the average comp is 429k mostly ranging from 290 to 233 in case very high okay but those million dollar directors are skewing the numbers the median is only 333k only so high and for the people that say that they need to pay so much because Facebook is not cool anymore exhibit a the Zuck winning gold in a juju competition side note stocks tanking can destroy your comp but if it's doing well like here or when I was at the Googs your stock might double and you can save huge on taxes by never mind bite Dance The Tick Tock now we're gonna fly through the rest of these we have a lot to cut through the tick tocks two one is 221k to 359k for a three one and it looks like above that 3-2 is often management with many years of experience average is 228 mostly ranging from 173 to 456k median of 216 in case Apple 245k to 423k but for the looks of it some level fives will be management positions average is 273 mostly ranging from 217k to 579k median is 243 in case mixing hardware and software PMS might lower that but it's also Apple just the name adds value to the position Airbnb 292k to 548 in case for an L6 product lead which is comparable to an L6 at Google they pay extremely well 516k average my oh my mostly ranging from 418k to 1019 MKS or a million dollar job wow even the median is 474k Walmart 116 to 252k for an L5 staff product manager they probably have lower paid PMS in the mix for efficiencies Hardware all that their average is 255 mostly ranging from 204 to 804k with 166 verified profiles I think the amount of tech that Walmart has will also surprise people especially when you tell people you're making 804k down at the Walmart coinbase 191k to 501ks for a senior PM 496k average mostly ranging from 310 to 1717 case that's with 20 verified profiles and most have a lot of experience and yes if they're paid in cryptocurrency this might not last but that is a way of Technology Salesforce 190 7K to 244k for a senior PM average is 255 mostly ranging from 200k to 582k median is 225. so this is a good example of a top paying company that has skewed numbers for product manager pay many of the product managers in the data sets are product marketing managers who on average make less so this number is probably low Nvidia 195 to 377 for an L5 looks like senior product manager averages 292 mostly from 248 to 514k incredible incredible company that's likely to grow with AI Uber is 156 to 531 for a lead PM average is fantastic 383 mostly ranging from 244k to 1274k median is 287k when you get away from those high paid directors PayPal 133k to 363k for a lead PM average is 291k median of 262k mostly ranging from 225k to 714k not bad for a legacy company Netflix oh my goodness this company's product manager pay is unbelievable I see why they rejected me 638k for senior product managers average is 512. median is 565k mostly ranging from 539 to 709k mostly it breaks six figures salary bracket it's so high you may have seen much lower wages for Netflix product managers online Netflix has an LA studio with various jobs that may get bucketed into product manager but are very different from a typical software product manager so you always need to dig into a company that does multiple things Roku 350 for senior PMS average is 285 not bad Disney 133k to 231 in case for senior PM average is 221. it's a top paying company but this might include some of the character jobs at the park I don't know Adobe 221 to 292 for an L5 average is 261. I thought it would be more considering how much they charge me to edit a text file from 1990s technology but okay slack is known as a cash cow for engineers but we only have one product manager in this data set 314k into it 144k to 325. average is 304 median is 263 in case Roblox Roblox senior PM is 284. only 4 PM's here but the median is 415. wow the original metaverse snap 255 to 590k L5 may be a senior PM average is 340k great pay LinkedIn 203k to 453 for a senior PM average is 334k median is 262 in case and Twitter 176 to 345k for a senior PM 421 average wow median is 342k now of course like Twitter all of these compensation stats will be rapidly changing an eccentric billionaire could buy any one of these companies and disrupt all the salaries that we just talked about so you can check my sub stack for more info on how to do your own product manager comp research and let me know if you want this video updated on a regular basis you got this
