in this video I will teach you how to add insurance department to your roofing business I will give you eight practical tips how I started it and how you can implement insurance claim process in your roofing business background story when I started Storm Group Roofing roofing I did not do insurance claims I didn't know nothing about insurance I didn't understand insurance I didn't understand supplements I didn't understand how to file how to bill how to work insurance claims didn't know nothing the first two years I built retail operations first and after two years I realized that insurance companies are the biggest buyers of roofs in the country they spent billions of dollars in claims they owe it to their insured if you follow my steps you will be able to implement insurance claim process in your business and double some time triple your profits as well you have to understand mental moral and legal part of insurance claim process a lot of guys a lot of contractors struggle with it it's truly just a mental shift you need to understand there is nothing illegal in charge an insurance company you need to understand there is nothing immoral about it once your head arrives there you can figure out everything else but it's all starts in your head I know a lot of contractors who don't do claims because they don't understand it they think that their price is their price they don't understand why insurance companies should be paying for stuff they go out they see missing shingle they don't advise their homeowners to file the claims they're like well why would insurance pay for entire roof if you only have one tab missing well that's wrong you understand why insurance companies owe for entire roof one one tab is missing as a matter of fact one of the best people in business work on this side of the business they work with the insurance companies to make sure that the insurance company is doing what they're supposed to be doing once your head arrives there and you finally realize that you've been missing out and now it's the time for you to take on insurance claims now you're actually ready to go here's what I want you to do I want you to attend industry training I did two - I attended HAAG certification and I attended Steve Patrick class those two classes absolutely changed my mind didn't help me necessarily on the back end it's not like I became better business owner or I knew Xactimate but it helped me to understand what insurance adjusters actually doing so essentially you're gonna be sitting in a room if you attend HAAG training you will be sitting with adjusters insurance adjusters and you will be learning how to identify the damage so for those of you rookies who have never done it before you probably when an insurance adjuster appointments and if insurance adjuster ask your Hey show me the damage you look at the roof and you don't know what the damages you might point at a bird poop or mechanical damage or some algae strikes on the roof from nearby trees you will make a fool of yourself in front of adjuster maybe you did have a solid claim but because you could not identify point damage or speak the language now all of a sudden you know you don't have any credibility that insurance adjuster can take advantage of it say well you don't know what you're talking about you cannot point the damage you know this conversation is over so I want you to get the same training I want you to learn the language understand the claims it's not too much if you are a roofer and you like to read instructions and follow the process following insurance process it's not that hard you know you have to understand legal paperwork insurance paperwork a few terms but that's about it if you attend few seminars to relate it to insurance paperwork you will be more confident they will treat you like one of their own because you actually have attended similar training you've been in the same class that they have been at if we're talking about HAAG now you are serving two different masters you're on opposite side of the spectrum but you still have the same training so those trainings definitely help invest in CRM and start learning how to document absolutely everything you do you guys know that I highly recommend JobNimbus. We've been using JobNimbus for years one of the things what we do with the JobNimbus is we log in our calls I want you to think about those login calls almost like you preparing for the court date on every single job when my supplemental person who works with insurance companies right now he literally logs in every conversation with adjuster desk adjuster field adjuster he documents pictures he documents his files he puts in writing and when he calls them he logs in those calls what the conversation was about what you can do if you have good CRM you can literally print pages from the CRM let's say you go to court and it's no longer he said or she said when you go negotiate with insurance companies it's very very important to have that documentation because you're gonna be proving your case think about yourself almost like as a lawyer and if you say well we spoke that day and you said this well it's one way of doing business another way you can print piece of paper and say hey you know Tuesday May 31st at 8:59 we spoke with your decks desk adjuster and he hears his name here's what he said here's what he approved why this did not happen now it's different conversation JobNimbus will get you there for $25 a user if you guys don't have CRM yet you're missing out you will not be successful in insurance restoration without CRM insurance restoration game is very very confrontational you have two businesses you have insurance company's business and you have your business that business is in a game to save money you are in a game to make money and you constantly go back and forth I don't want you to think about it as a conflict but you will have a lot of it sometimes people who you will be meeting on the field will be doing their jobs and their jobs is not to pay your job is to make money that's why you're in business so sooner or later you will have conflicts and you have to learn how to negotiate just like you go to court in front of the judge you have a good lawyer and bad lawyer well whether your client is guilty or not you don't know you have to defend him so you you have to learn how to negotiate defend your case your client is your defendant if you watch any TV shows you know with lawyers games they know each other they mock each other in the courtroom they fight after the courtroom they might have drinks together the same here you might know those adjusters but they still will deny your claims watch insurance wars on YouTube you will understand a little bit more of dynamics of insurance claims it's not easy game you have to sometimes just go pound pound pound argue sometimes you have to raise your voice because they raising voice at you so learn how to negotiate learn how to stand your case learn how to be firm and learn how to grow thick skin you will need it out of all apps all companies that I endorse Company Camp it's truly the one that every contractor needs to have super super cheap as a matter of fact recently they came out with the premium version so you can actually try it for free but one thing I like about Company Cam is you have to learn how to document your job sites especially in the roofing industry especially in the claims if you started doing claims insurance claims you have to have a very least 75 pictures per job you have to have every single side you have to do zooming pictures big pictures damage pictures absolutely everything most companies do up to 300 so that's your spectrum from 75 to 300 my sales reps on the job site will have their iPads they're gonna upload all the pictures minutes later my supplementer in the office have everything can start working on the claim I truly believe that Company Cam is one of the best I'm gonna put a link below so you can go check them out my other recommend you find someone who can mentor you through the process even if you've been doing claims for 10 years you will have claims that you will have questions about what do I do here how do I supplement it like what's the middle part sometimes you want to get paid for one thing and you have to in the sake of negotiation give something up not to get paid on something but to get paid on some other stuff sometimes it's not necessary when you have a mentor you can call him he will guide you through it and he'll give you good tips insurance claims are hard to settle it's the bigger they are the harder they are make sure you have a mentor in your corner who you can call when you need them the most for example for me it could be someone like Bo Williamson Steve Patrick is another guy actually my employee he was Chris Festina he was my mentor in insurance games when I hired Chris he already have 10 years experience I didn't know nothing about it so I trust everything he says everything he does but again find someone who is way ahead of the game and I'm not the mentor to anyone in insurance games I can give you tips I can tell you how I implemented in my business but I have a person who does it for 13 years now in my business so I don't need to know it he does it every single day it does an amazing job but I do have amazing resources you have those resources as well like Bo Williamson and public adjuster is one of them we have more find a mentor someone you can call when you need them learn how to supplement you don't always have to have supplementary in-house I went all nine yards I wanted to do it right I hired immediately I got an insurance game immediately person in the house who will do my supplements there's a lot of options you can outsource it I'm not a big fan of outsource and I do recommend you learning it yourself you can go through training how to supplement it but please no matter what you do don't leave it on the table there is insurance companies never ever pay what they supposed to pay on average they will shorten every claim 20 30 % so if you know that number is it's adds up every claim adds up so if you're planning to do 100 claims per year you might be leaving two to three hundred thousand dollars on the table just because you don't have supplementary you don't do supplements you don't supplement jobs for example in my business in 2018 just two years in we collected I think hundred and eighty thousand dollars in deductibles huge amount of money you know hundred eighty thousand just in deductibles alone supplements I think it was like six or seven hundred thousand dollars we were just getting started so make sure you supplement make sure you collect deductibles make sure you have resources follow that make sure you build solid processes for both retail and insurance claims for me right now as far as business goes it's about 50/50 we literally created red folders for all insurance jobs and green folders for all retail jobs when you walk into my office you will see you know a whole bunch of folders because we have a lot of people we have supplemented here we have production department there you will see literally on the wall which folders are red why because we have one guy who just works with insurance claims and if he needs a file he needs to grab it because it's all never-ending negotiation he goes in grab the file you know maybe he needs to add something to it and maybe he is on the phone with adjuster you know he needs to find it so build a solid process for both department any roofing business can implement both business models you don't have to just be one hundred percent retail or 100 percent insurance for me it's 50/50 for you it can be 80/20 or 90/10 but either way make sure people who do insurance claims they have their process retail jobs have their process build the process implemented train your employees you get the idea so I have guys for you for today how to
