Sickness billing format for client for Accounting

hello there welcome to the medical biller interview we do appreciate your time coming down here today just so you know you're one of three finalists for this job so congratulations there to you as well today this is a panel myself is drop wise jones this is mike over here mary over here so i'm going to be conducting the interview they will be taking notes so don't be alarmed when you see them writing down things it's for the interview process just so you know too this interview is not designed to trip you up or to make you give you a difficult time the interview is really to see what kind of a fit you'll be for our company so that's what we're gonna do okay let's get right into it are you ready okay thank you um tell me what your experience is working with medicare and medicaid representatives okay okay okay so what is your understanding of different types of medical terminology okay i understand okay thank you what is your approach to dealing with rejected or unpaid medical claims yes rejected our unpaid medical claims what's your experience there yes okay do you hold any certifications related to medical billing or coding okay thank you have you ever needed to submit a claim to a clearinghouse a clearinghouse yes okay okay so how would you handle correcting an error that calls the patient are insured to be incorrectly charged sure how would you handle correcting an error that caused a patient or insurer to be incorrectly charged how would you handle that or how do you handle that okay so throughout the career of any medical builder you're going to work with a lot of different insurance companies so um which which companies do you have more experience with and have you noticed any differences in the way they process their claims yes okay so what would you do if the medical coder submitted codes that you you didn't recognize and you did not uh did not align with the care the patient received right if it didn't did not right if it did not align with the care the patient received correct okay right so what is the process for closing a patient account after they completed a payment plan what's that process okay okay thank you thank you describe the confidentiality requirements that you have to uphold as a medical builder a biller and how do you confirm a patient's identity to ensure you are protecting their private information yes okay have you ever witnessed an unethical debt collection process as a medical biller and in your role how do you prevent misconduct okay so how do you keep a positive attitude when talking to patients about their unpaid balanced or late payments that are due when you're on the phone okay thank you at this point here do you have any questions okay that's the first part of the video now we're going to get into the the questions with some with some strong answers for you as well um some questions i cannot give you answers for because some of the questions are designed to come from your personal experience so but i'm going to help you out with many of these possible questions for you oh i'm job wise jones uh i do a lot of interview techniques how to really sharply construct your skills for interviews i'm sorry i don't usually do introductions i get right into the material because i hate when videos do two minutes of just blah blah blah i don't do that i get right into it so let's review of course let's go back to also please subscribe subscribing really supports the channel and i really appreciate that if you liked the video please hit like see i go so fast sometimes okay so the first question we did ask was what is your experience when working with medicare and medicaid reps now the reason for this question is it's a specific question right they're asking about medicare and medicaid because they want you to see because many of your billing processes will be billed via medicare medicaid that's just how it is because many americans use medicare and medicaid hospitals need medicare medicaid monies to keep going with their processes so of course as a biller you will come across that the panel is asking you that question to make sure you've had some experience with them if you're an experienced medical biller even if you aren't you've had training on the job training whatever they're hoping that you will be able to insert some kind of experience with medicare medicaid into your questions plus all so it shows there's a duality there right medicare medicaid make sure you have that experience uh to tell them you know also too another thing too is that you have they want to make sure you understand that there's a process for medicaid and a process for medicare and so when you explain that question the answer make sure you tell them that you know your your cognizant there are two different for uh formats for processing both of those kinds of kinds of claims and also too you have an ability to connect with those who who are strangers right people who you don't know but you still know how to process the paperwork which is which is very important now um also if you don't have experience with medicare medicaid you can tell them you got it from your school you also tell them that you're willing and able to learn the process you know whatever you got to tell them to get that job that's the truth it's fine okay number two what is your understanding of different types of medical terminology now a lot of builders come from different medical backgrounds already some are nurses some are medical assistants some are dental who knows right they already have that in already they're on board so if you have a medical background it should be pretty easy to answer that question if you don't you can take it from your past experience take it from training in school take it from on the job training either way make sure you can answer that question honestly but also show some reflection of understanding medical terminology you can even say if you have to if you have to i watch youtube videos on medical terminology you know things like that so they understand you have some type of medical terminology background r the w word willingness you're willing to learn the uh the terminology okay so there we go number three is what is your approach to dealing with rejected or unpaid medical claims so you want to deal this is a question for you who are already experienced you want to bring up that past if you dealt with it before bring it up in your own way let them know you know a short one-minute synopsis what happened how you did it and how you filled it out and how you completed it give them that little process the two or three steps you know maybe four steps that you've already had the experience before also too in that you want to make sure you understand you bring in you're bringing a high level of understanding to that situation because rejected claims are a big deal okay so the word claim is means really money right okay every business need needs money so make sure you you you explain that how you do it and also too as you explain that to it don't put any drama tell them you know you're very calm you handle like a professional let them know your demeanor is not want to get excited because something got rejected because you're human mistakes are going to happen and so make sure you tell them that as you talk to them that you know this is part of the process mistakes happen and i can go about my day feeling good and confident that i take care of the problem if you don't have experience here you can always talk about how you handle conflict resolution in other jobs you know how you handle people who are upset how you handle things that are errors that maybe you've made that you've also fixed you want to come as close as you can to understanding that the questions about claims but if you don't have any experience use something else that talks about a conflict resolution right that's what you want that's what you want to use okay do you hold in certifications related to medical billing or coding now it's not that hard to get some kind of search or um uh search online for for a building i'm not saying you become a medical biller without a certification you got to have that but i'm saying you can also get other search that go along with the medical billing process you know even your education background you know things that you have can help beef up your your your resume also beef up yourself at the interview you know if you have certifications let them know of course you know if you don't tell that also but also use a w word i am willing to get certifications and i'm interested in getting certifications that's how you want to answer that you want to show them some eagerness you know you want to be engaged in the question you really want to do that okay make them so that if you don't have what they want that you're willing and you're interested in getting what they do want okay that's how we do that number six how would you correct an error that cause the patient are ensured to be incorrectly charged now that's a big one because people hate that right so you want to tell them how you would correct that error give the details this is something you got to answer yourself i can't give you the answer here but what i can tell you is that make sure you make it systematic a one two three four right how are you going to correct that air before you saw the air you're going to correct the air once it's corrected you follow up on the on the air make sure it's done and then close up the situation whatever you do make it systematic i should be able to understand you as a non-medical biller how you will fix a billing problem that's how you want to do that okay i've said on many many interview panels where i'm not a medical biller i'm in hospital administration but the but the person being interviewed described it so well in such a short amount of time i understood directly what she was talking about even though i'm not a medical biller and that's what you want to do too and if you're if no if you don't have any experience at all again you want to tell them what you would do you know tell them how you would handle the situation because you have no real world experience right but you do have some training you know you have some exposure to to the world you know and tell them how you would do it if that were you okay that's how you do that so number seven is medical bills work in a variety of insurance companies right what companies do you have experience working with and have you noticed differences in the way they process claims well of course you guys out there who already medical billers you already know this already there's maybe three or four or five different companies you tend to go back to they tend to be where your customers come from right your clients come from also too of course there's going to be different ways in which they they pre-process no process is the same but tell them that you know one two or three you know keep it short and simple because you guys you don't want to go on and on and on at an interview you want to get right to the point get the facts and be done with it so you sound like a professional if you're blabbing all day make up excuses uh uh it just looks terrible just get to the facts boo boo boom and there you go okay if you don't have experience at all again you're willing and you're interested right maybe you got some for on-the-job training maybe you've learned something on youtube who knows right whatever it is you want you want to make sure you sound confident in your answer whether you have experience or not because they want to know that you have some uh varied experience if you're an experienced medical biller if you're just going through aetna every time aetna that's not going to be impressive if you are an experienced miller you want to say you have other experiences also out there which you can draw from and tell them that you know how to do it you know that's how you do that okay you guys are doing good here uh break here if you guys ever want to have somebody come via google or zoom or if you're in san diego come in person i do professional interview assistants i help people with interviews all the time how to keep on track how to keep on target and how to keep focused i'm booked for april i don't have any more room for april i've done nine so far this month this is my third year doing this my cost is free um you can get me at jobwisejones.gmail.com give that to your school if you want or you can be the first contact through me and i can contact the school through the information you give me regarding who i can call okay so what would you do if the medical biller submitted codes that you didn't recognize or did not align with the care the patient receives so again these are where your leaders are at so they're asking what would you do if you saw basically the codes you don't recognize the codes leaders ask right if you are the smartest person in the room you're in the wrong room so a good leader will ask you're a medical biller typically you buy it by yourself maybe one or two people you have to be a leader you have to ask hey this doesn't sound right to me um what can i do let's fix this thing or you know let's get this thing fixed so it sounds right because i've never seen it before or if you see there it doesn't align with the care the patient received if they had a broken right arm but what the coach says uh broken left foot uh something's wrong there obviously right so that point again you'd be a leader you start the process you say this is not right and you align it and you fix it you know that's what they're going to want to hear this is not really an issue of the code it's really an issue are you a leader and are you a problem solver don't get mixed up in this situation because the reason why i ask you that question i ask because i'm trying to see if you're a leader if you're going to correct it it's a situation on your own right because that's what leaders do they lead they don't wait for somebody to tell them what to do they find the issues find the problems and they fix it and they take care of business that way that question is designed to see if you are a leader so we answer that question make sure you say that okay next one is what is the process for closing a patient account after they completed a patient payment this i don't know but i do know this we answer that question again one two three four or one two three keep it sharp focused and done you don't want to sit there for two five ten minutes to talk about this one little ant a question you got keep it focused keep it short boom see when you're dealing medical billing it's a very precise very focused type type type career right so you want to be able to answer that question like a professional right professionals don't sit there and blah blah blah and uh maybe uh they're very direct you know they know what they're talking about builders are usually analytical people right they analyze numbers and codes and stuff like that so at the interview do the same also at your interview it's okay to be nervous it's not okay to be scared you should not be scared of an interview because it's a two-way street now you're saying job-wise drones what do you mean by two-way street because at the end of this interview prep here i'll tell you why it's a two-way street but it is a two-way street okay you they're there yes to interview you to see how you fit with them but you are also there to interview them to see how you will fit with them it's a two-way street okay i'll explain that when we get down with the interview okay describe the confidentiality requirements that you have to uphold as a medical biller how do you confirm a patient's identity is private hipaa right this question is not designed to hear you say for two minutes what you would do mention hipaa somewhere in your explanation they're going to understand it immediately you understand what that means patient protection's right and so you can understand that really fast say hipaa and then go into your to your answer to that question but make sure you say hipaa and guys this question will be a guaranteed question in your interview process i guarantee you that okay so i want you to be ready for it all right they're going to ask because hipaa is what it's a huge deal these days right hospitals clinics even sometimes the person themselves can get sued for letting people's personal information go out into the wind right you can't do that so remember that question is it's not about the uh it's about the hipaa okay remember that you guys are doing good okay have you ever witnessed unethical debt collection processes as a medical biller and how would you prevent misconduct in your role so if you ever witnessed athletical processes as the medical builder it builder if you have you say so because they're going to want to look for you what truth are you what if they vet you what they better find out in the past you deal with is that but you're at the interview and you say you didn't witness that right medical bills must be honest people correct so yeah i did what when this is and then go on no what did you do about it right and typically you might say i reported it you know i told the supervisor whatever but guys if you never witnessed it too that's fine you never witness it that's great that's really a blessing actually you know you've never seen some enough an ethical building it's good but if you have to say it tell what you did it's fine just be honest with your answer okay because your answers can be vented all right so be careful and see here how do you prevent misconduct in your role you have rules you have ethical rules medical billers have to be ethical people there is nothing uh can i get around that if you're not an ethical person you should not be a biller that's all there is to it so how do you make sure in your your role to prevent misconduct every day i go to work i use one word myself is trust i trust myself to do the job right because people trust me that's how you answer that question i trust myself to do the job right because people trust me that keeps you on focus it keeps them so they understand that you are serious about your profession you are a professional understand that's how that works okay you guys are doing good just keep on going last one is how do you keep a positive attitude with talking to patients about your unpaid balance okay this question is good because if you don't have a thick skin you should probably think twice about being a biller why because people sometimes misguide their anger at the biller and not at the real situation maybe they can't pay their bills right maybe they're behind maybe they're in collections or whatever right and who's the person they're going to get mad at it's you the person who calls right so the first thing you want to say is the l word to the interview panel well the first thing i do is i listen if they're not cussing me at me or give me death threats i listen to people because people just want to be heard and it's true right everybody just wants to be heard so you tell the interview panel they want to be heard after that i'll ask them okay are they done and may i start to help them out from my point of view tell them my point of view to resolve the situation and then i tell them i can put them on a payment plan or i can help them out to understand their bill better or whatever you are trying to find some kind of resolution okay that's the deal now here's the deal too you tell the interview panel if at one point you cannot find resolution with the client then i will then give it to my supervisor to help me out to find resolution for the customer or client or whatever okay so two parts there first part is this you have to be able to handle a lot of these things on your own some of you guys are going to work alone are already working alone right so you got to handle you'll handle it on your own but if you cannot if you understand this is beyond your scope you want to show the panel too that you know how to bump up the situation to your supervisor or your manager or whoever's in charge that you understand your limits and you can say okay this problem cannot be solved by me because this person is too angry or whatever they are you know and you want to bump it up to your supervisor and manager they want to see can you deal with conflict resolution on your own and then also can you understand what it's outside of your scope to handle it beyond your you know beyond your means that you give you got to be able to bump it up to a supervisor or a manager that's how you answer that question two things you all by you if you can't do it good go go one above yourself that's all you gotta do guys okay last question is do you have any questions for us all my subscribers know that on job wise jones we always have one question we always ask no you can ask two or three other questions if you want but this question here for all my students on job wise jones we all know this answer to this question the first answer is yes and here's a question you want to ask them oh thank you yes um so why did why did you become a medical builder like what about medical billing excites you or why do you come here every day to work that question is what i've coined on my channel here i call power transference what it does it takes the interview eu and the interviewers right it's a power transference now you're transferring the power now you become the interviewer and someone on that panel becomes an interviewee it's a respectful educated and intelligent question to ask also it puts them on a quick alert that oh this person knows what they're doing because now they're interviewing us for this job and also you're telling the panel that you know what i'm interviewing you too you know it's a great place but i'm still interviewing you as well it's a great question to ask do not fear asking that question it puts you 10 light years above your competition who's coming behind you because you're asking the right questions and you're showing the courage and intelligence to ask that question you can also ask two or three other questions if you want that's fine but make sure you acquire that question for sure it has to come out all my job-wise general students who ask this question go way ahead as far as the as far as different panels are concerned okay make sure you ask that question okay now when you're going down to your car the bus whatever you take it home don't get into your car don't take the uber yet don't take the bus yet i want you to email each of those interviewers a nice email from you say thank you for blah blah and go from there make sure you get their names and email addresses email them before you leave the premises very important guys do that all right before you leave the premises okay all right guys this is my job wise jones channel i really appreciate you being here if you liked the video hit like if you want to subscribe i would really appreciate it don't don't be a looky loo and go about your business please come back here support this channel it's free it doesn't hurt it doesn't cost anything so there we go okay please comment below as well if you have something of personal nature to me you can do that too jobwisejones.gmail.com i will answer you confidentially no problem at all thank you for supporting this channel and you guys have a good day and i wish you the very best of luck at your interview okay
