where we start first at 10 tonight an outage for T-Mobile customers in Montgomery County is causing headaches for residents and dispatchers alike when a T-Mobile customer calls 911 dispatchers are reportedly unable to hear the caller two news reporter Evan Bales is live in a newsroom and spoke with law enforcement about what you should do in this situation Evan Jack dispatchers all over Montgomery County are still experiencing those issues tonight and have been since around 2 this afternoon we'll be back to normal operations as soon as T-Mobile gets their uh gets their stuff fixed several calls received by local Dispatchers in the greater dayen area were met with silence on the other end T-Mobile customers utilizing 911 found themselves unable to be heard by dispatchers I spoke with people who live in this coverage area they tell me not having this resource readily available is nerve-wracking being in that situation it's really scary obviously that's something that you lean on um to have immediate help we depend on our phones at this point and not being able to use it in dangerous situations puts our life even more at risk in the hour since 911 operators have found a way around this issue by calling the number back they are then able to hear the caller but there are easier workarounds for all involved you can either text 911 or call the non emergency numbers for your local police departments one resident I spoke with says he saved the non-emergency numbers in his phone in preparation for this exact scenario I have that always with me on my phone we'll have a way of getting through somewhere I reached out to T-Mobile asking them what caused the outages and they responded with this one of our thirdparty vendors is working to resolve a fiber cut that is causing one-way audio during 911 calls this isn't the first time that this has happened with T-Mobile in April of this year four different states suffered 911 outages for hours due to a fiber line being cut another similar incident in 2015 led to T-Mobile being fined $17.5 million and another outage in 2021 where they refined $19.5 million now police say that you should continue to dial 911 despite this issue as it could be resolved soon live in The Newsroom Evan Bales 2 News
