I. Employment; Duties . The Church hereby employs
(Name of Interim Pastor )
as its
Interim Pastor and the Interim Pastor accepts such employment. The Interim Pastor's duties
include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. Lead worship each Sunday.
B. Do pastoral calling on sick, shut-ins and prospective members.
C. Officiate at weddings and funerals as requested.
D. Work with committees to assist them in carrying out their assigned tasks.
E. Train newly-elected officers.
F. Enable the Board of Elders to identify current issues they face and develop ways
of resolving them.
G. Help to identify skills needed by the future Pastor to insure clarity of roles and
expectations.
H. Prepare the congregation for the arrival of a new minister.
I. Such other reasonable matters related to the purposes of the Church as Board of
Elders of the Church delegate to the Interim Pastor as or may be provided for in the
Bylaws of the Church.
II. Compensation. The Church shall pay the Interim Pastor a salary of $ per month.
The Church must withhold FICA and federal income tax in accordance with the law.
III. Expenses. The Church shall reimburse the Interim Pastor for all reasonable and
necessary expenses which he may incur relative to his services for the Church, including but not
limited to travel, telephone, postage, typing, and copying expenses. The Church will provide
reimbursement within days of submission by the Interim Pastor to the treasurer or any

other officer of the Church of documentation supporting expenditures. The Interim Pastor will
submit all documentation for an expense within days after the expense is incurred.

IV. It is understood that the Interim Pastor has agreed not to be a candidate for the pastorate
of this church, and in every way will seek to prepare the way for the coming of an installed
Pastor.
V. Term.
A. This Agreement is for a period of up to 12 months, but is terminated when the
called Pastor arrives. It may be renewed for additional periods of time of up to 12
months, which will also be terminated when the called Pastor arrives. If the called Pastor
arrives or if the Board of Elders terminates the relationship with the Interim Pastor before
the Agreement period ends, the contracted compensation will continue for an additional
two months beyond termination, or until the end of the Agreement period, whichever is
less. If the Interim Pastor terminates the contract before the Agreement period ends,
compensation does not extend beyond the termination date.
B. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Church and Interim Pastor agree that the Interim
Pastor’s employment with the Church is “At Will.” This means that either the Interim
Pastor or the Church is free to end the employment relationship at any time, for any
reason, with or without cause and with or without notice.
VI. Severability. The invalidity of any portion of this Agreement will not and shall not be
deemed to affect the validity of any other provision. If any provision of this Agreement is held to
be invalid, the parties agree that the remaining provisions shall be deemed to be in full force and
effect as if they had been executed by both parties subsequent to the expungement of the invalid
provision.
VII. No Waiver. The failure of either party to this Agreement to insist upon the performance
of any of the terms and conditions of this Agreement, or the waiver of any breach of any of the
terms and conditions of this Agreement, shall not be construed as subsequently waiving any such
terms and conditions, but the same shall continue and remain in full force and effect as if no such
forbearance or waiver had occurred.
VIII. Governing Law. This Agreement shall be governed by, construed, and enforced in
accordance with the laws of the State of .

IX. Notices. Unless provided herein to the contrary, any notice provided for or concerning
this Agreement shall be in writing and shall be deemed sufficiently given when sent by certified
or registered mail if sent to the respective address of each party as set forth at the beginning of
this Agreement.
X. Mandatory Arbitration. Notwithstanding the foregoing, and anything herein to the
contrary, any dispute under this Agreement shall be required to be resolved by binding
arbitration of the parties hereto. If the parties cannot agree on an arbitrator, each party shall select
one arbitrator and both arbitrators shall then select a third. The third arbitrator so selected shall

arbitrate said dispute. The arbitration shall be governed by the rules of the American Arbitration
Association then in force and effect.
XI. Entire Agreement. This Agreement shall constitute the entire agreement between the
parties and any prior understanding or representation of any kind preceding the date of this
Agreement shall not be binding upon either party except to the extent incorporated in this
Agreement.
XII. Modification of Agreement. Any modification of this Agreement or additional
obligation assumed by either party in connection with this Agreement shall be binding only if
placed in writing and signed by each party or an authorized representative of each party.
XIII. Assignment of Rights. The rights of each party under this Agreement are personal to that
party and may not be assigned or transferred to any other person, firm, corporation, or other
entity without the prior, express, and written consent of the other party.
