In order to vote in an Alaska election, you must meet the following requirements:You must be a citizen of the United States.You must be 18 years of age or older. You must not register to vote in another jurisdiction. You must register to vote 30 days before an election.You can register to vote in Alaska by completing a Voter Registration Application
(which you can obtain online at
http://www.ltgov.state.ak.us/
elections/regapp.php) and presenting it in person to
the Division of Elections, a voter registrar in your community, a city or borough
clerk, or a voter registration agency (DMV, Health and Social Services,
Community and Economic Development, or recruitment offices of the armed
forces of the United States located in Alaska). You may also mail it to a Division
of Elections office. If you initially register to vote by mail, you must include
information that will verify your identity by providing a copy of a driver's license,
state identification card, birth certificate, passport or hunting and fishing license,
as well as your birth date and at least the last four digits of your social security
number.
You will receive your Voter ID card in the mail, which will contain your precinct
name and number. Voter cards are mailed out once a month, generally around
the second week of the month. Polling places are set up for each voting precinct. DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENTS -
You are given 90 days from the time you become a resident of the state of
Alaska to obtain an Alaska driver’s license. If you have a commercial driver’s
license, you must obtain an Alaska license within 30 days of becoming a
resident.
You will be required to pay $100.00 to obtain a commercial driver’s license (along
with a $25.00 non-refundable fee if you require a road test), $20.00 to obtain a
driver or motorcycle license and $15.00 to obtain an instruction permit.In order to obtain a driver’s license in the state of Alaska, you must meet the
following requirements: If you are at least sixteen years of age and you possess a valid driver's
license from another state, you must surrender your out-of-state driver's
license, pass a written knowledge test and a vision test, and pay a fee to
obtain an Alaska driver's license. If you possess a valid driver's license from a country other than the United
States or Canada, you must pass a road test.You may use your out-of-state or out-of-country driver's license as proof of
identification to obtain an Alaska driver's license. You must also present
proof of birth in the form of a certified copy of a birth certificate or a
passport with valid INS documentation.You will also be required to furnish your social security number prior to
issuance of a license. Even if you have a learner's permit from another state, you must obtain an

DMVoMilitary Identification for active duty, retiree or reservist.
The following documents are acceptable for proving identity:
oPhotographic employee identification card oSocial security card (If a number has been assigned to you, it is
required on the application.) (Metal card is not acceptable.)o Military Identification for dependent oPassport oPilot's License o Marriage license or certificate o Other evidence of comparable validity approved by a DMV
supervisor.

a permit, you must be accompanied by a person age 21 years of age or
older that has a minimum of 1 year driving experience. This person must
have a valid driver license and occupy the passenger seat next to you at

expired for over 1 year) o Pass the written "Rules of the Road" test to convert to an Alaska

endorsement.oPass any tests for endorsements that you wish to add to your

endorsements require a road test as well. oPass a vision test. oIf your commercial driver’s license from another state has been
expired over one year, you must pass ALL written tests that apply
to the type of license you wish to obtain. A road test is required if
the license has been expired over five years.IDENTIFICATION CARD REQUIREMENTS-
There is no age limit to obtain a state identification card in Alaska. If you are 60
years of age or older, you will be issued an identification card free of charge. You
will be required to pay a fee in the amount of $15.00 for obtaining a state ID card
if you are under the age of 60.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS-
As a new resident of Alaska, you must apply for registration of your vehicle within
ten days of entering the state or taking a job within the state. In order to register your vehicle in the state of Alaska, you must meet the
following requirements:
You must submit your current out-of-state registration title (if there is no
lienholder) an I/M certificate, if required and an application for title and
registration.
You may have to provide proof of vehicle inspection for carbon monoxide
emission prior to registration if you reside in the Municipality of Anchorage
and Fairbanks North Star Borough and your vehicle is a passenger car or
truck with a net vehicle weight of less than 12,000 lb., powered by a
gasoline driven engine and is a model year 1968 or newer in Anchorage
or 1975 or newer in Fairbanks. You must also maintain liability insurance that provides for the minimum
amounts of $50,000 for bodily injury or death of any one person, $100,000
for bodily injury or death for any accident, and $25,000 for property
damage. Your driver’s license may be suspended if you fail to obtain such
liability insurance. You must have proof of motor vehicle liability insurance
in your possession at all times when driving your motor vehicle, and you
must present such proof for inspection upon demand from a peace officer
or other authorized representative of the Department of Public Safety.
Your vehicle may be impounded in the Municipality of Anchorage if you do
not have proof of insurance. You will be required to pay a registration fee for your vehicle based on its
class and weight, in the case of a truck, bus or for-hire vehicle. You may
be required to pay a motor vehicle registration tax based on the class and
year of your vehicle and your residence address. Your residence address
listed on the application for title & registration will determine whether or not
you will be required to pay taxes prior to registering a vehicle in the State
of Alaska.
You must submit an original application for disabled parking identification
signed by an Alaska licensed physician to the Division in order to obtain a
free disability parking permit. You must display two license plates on your vehicle and one on your
