In a “blitz campaign” done by the FDA, of the 1, 982 medications imported, 1, 782 were unapproved drugs. Of these imported drugs, only 200 were safe and approved. Less than 10% of these drugs were safe. Is a 10% chance good enough for your life? Is your child’s life only worth 10%? Approving prescription drugs from Canada would also have many adverse effects on the American Economy. If American citizens choose to purchase their medications from Canada or through the Internet, pharmacies would lose a significant amount of prescription business. Currently, pharmacies lose much money by selling drugs to the government at a 16% less than wholesale price. If citizens were to choose the Internet or another country as their medication provider, this could eliminate the pharmacies and jobs. The pharmaceutical industry would be deeply impacted and the research and development of new and better drugs would be come to a halt. Obviously, the consequences of buying drugs from another country or online are not worth the dangers. Not only would such hurt the economy of the country, but could hurt million of Americans.
