Absenteeism and Tardiness Provisions for Personnel or Employee Manual or HandbookABSENTEEISM AND TARDINESS Company expects all employees to assume diligent responsibility for their attendance and promptness. Recognizing, however, that illnesses and injuries may occur, Company has established a sick leave plan to compensate full-time regular employees for certa in time lost for legitimate medical reasons, including time off to secure necessary treatment for a disability. If you are unable to work because of illness, you must notify your supervisor or department head by 9:00 A.M. on each day of your absence unless you are granted an authorized medical leave, in which case different notification procedures apply. Failure to prope rly notify Company results in an unexcused absence. Absenteeism that is unexcused or excessive in the judgment of Company is grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. If you are absent for more than five consecutive workdays, a statement from your physician is required before you will be permitted to return to work. In such instances, Company also reserves the right to require you to submit to an examination by a physician designat ed by Company at its discretion. In addition, Company may require you either to submit a statement from your physician or to be examined by a company-designated physician in other instances at its discretion, such as where abuse is suspected (e.g., where an employee's record indicate s a pattern of short absences and/or frequent absences before or after holidays and weekends). Tardiness is detrimental to the efficiency of the operation of the Company. Employees must notify their supervisor if they anticipate being late to work. Employees are expected to arrive at work on time, to return to work from breaks and lunch promptly, and to work to the conclusion of their regular scheduled day. An employee who is unavoidably detained must phone his/her supervisor to advise him/her of the fact. Tardiness that is unexcused or excessive in the judgment of the Company, or leaving work early without permission, are grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
