Since these were introduced, there has been a lot of paperwork where the customer has to provide Address proof, ID proof , passport size photos etc.Depending on what proofs you provide, your PAN / Driving license / Signature will all get exposed to the sales executives who collects these forms.To the telecom companies, this is also a lot of process.The application form is usually hand-written. This is usually sent to a data processing center to process this data and enter into a computer readable format / application. It also often has data entry mistakes.The application is then sent to a verification team (outsourced again). Someone visits your address and collects info, which is verified against the data that they have got from your original application. (usually for postpaid connections)Before the SIM is activated, there is usually some delays and a wait time of up-to 24 hours in the current processes.If I remember right, we’ve never had a SIM activated on the same day you applied for.Using Aadhaar for KYC signNowly simplified this process. Since Aadhaar is a solid way to prove identify of the user, the whole process should take much less time.It’s wonderful that Jio fully adapted using Aadhaar and implemented it very well. I was able to walk in to a store, get a SIM and get out in about 5 minutes! By the time I put the SIM on my phone 1 hour later it was already activated. I didn’t have to verify / tele-verify etc.In my opinion, Aadhaar is much safer than the paper process since your information is electronically access controlled as compared to non-Aadhaar where your papers with your identity / signature etc is handled by some random sales executive, and a data processing center somewhere. I believe there have been cases of reported misuse of these proofs for identity fraud.
