hi guys my name is Samantha and I am filing for the k1 visa I thought I want to document this journey just because I'm finishing up my last year of college and I this is gonna be really pivotal time in my life and it would be really cool to I don't know see what this is gonna be like in five years and the things I'm going through now and the things we'll be going through then so I just kind of want to document this time of my life and tell you guys about the k1 visa process for those that don't know who are in the middle of it who are considering to start it um especially as a college student I'm not using an immigration attorney at all I've honestly I've used all of my information from this website called visa journey it has been the best source of information I could ever imagine love this site very supportive it's like a million other people going through if not the exact same thing but very similar situations and you can literally get everything you need off there I honestly submit in my i-129f fiancee visa through YouTube videos and this website did not pay one dollar to an immigration attorney and we got approved oh if that doesn't say anything do your research and save your money there's no I mean I don't want to say there's no reason for an immigration attorney when it's gonna cost two to three thousand dollars just for them to fill out paperwork for you and you can easily easily do it by yourself we unofficially started this process I want to say in March after my first time arriving back from Australia and getting into the state so we were just kind of like on the edge it was a lot of work to put together we did if you wanted to do it and then one day I just woke up and I was like alright well I'm gonna put this thing together so you have to have a letter of intent you have to have proof of citizenship you have to scan pass every single passport page and if you guys want a detailed video on how all that is compiled let me know it's not something you can really I don't know briefly go over within a few minutes and we sent it out I believe may 22nd 2019 and then we got our Noa won technically they received it to 24th but they didn't let me know that they received it into like May 29th May 30th I got a text from them and they were saying like hey we received you you're in the system now we gotta wait for a long long time and so when you send off your petition it goes to a lockbox in Dallas they open it up they cash the check that's the other thing you have to use a check you can't use cash you cannot use card credit debit anything I believe the only thing you can get her around is a money order but I probably prefer or they would probably prefer check through a US bank it can't be from another floor and international bank it's gotta be US bank or their gun they're just gonna send you back that submission and be like yeah we can't take this so we did that and with in the summer time I hadn't I wasn't even thinking about it one bit I knew for a fact this was a five to seven month wait to even get our Noa - which is basically a notice of action that Noa one is basically saying hey we've received your application it's gonna be sitting on a desk of like a million other applications so in my head over the summer I wasn't even worried about it was like if we're not gonna get one ounce of a response I was like I'm not even gonna think or even pay attention to it until my first semester of college and so came around and it was leaning towards about four months and this is when I finally like getting into my visa journey calm and so many people that apply it and make up on getting their approvals like their Noa to czar their notice of action to within August and I was like how are these people that applied a few days after us get this approval in August I was really confused because our petition went to the California service center and I thought it was a regional thing because my fiancee is from Australia and I was like oh maybe cuz it's like next to the Pacific Ocean like that's how they organized it but no all of the k1 visas and I'm not a hundred percent sure but I'm pretty sure all of the k1 visas are processed in California if not they get transferred usually to Nebraska or Vermont and all of these people were getting approved and I was really confused and I'm just like how in the world are they getting approved in like three to four months when processing on their websites is like five to seven and keep in mind like from the k1 filing all the way to the interview takes about six to nine months so and most of that duration of time is getting your notice of action too and so all these people are like yeah I got approved I gotta prove I'm thinking in my head okay it's only August it's only September I haven't even hit the average processing time like this is way too early to be calling and so all these people kept getting approved and I was like okay this is weird and so I called up USCIS I believe in September and they were like yeah no we're just outgoing we're just now processing febuary applicants and I'm like how are you processing than you are your applicants when you are when you already approved people unlike Maddie and June and so I was just kind of like okay I guess I'll believe what she says um October rolls around more people are getting a poopy homelike june/july are getting approved and I'm just like what I was like I know there are some rare cases where people get their approvals sooner it's nothing just I don't know I was getting really impatient at this point but I was like I can't be too impatient because I haven't even hit average processing time and then october rolled around and i was just like you know what for for giggles i'm just gonna call the USCIS again see what happens see if they can do anything or see if there's any progress cuz i was reading on like visa journey that people would call USCIS and they would say they were approved but there is no notification they wouldn't send you an e-mail they wouldn't update the website they haven't yet sent out the letter but it's been approved so I was like okay I'll do that so I talked to this agent I believe she was Tier two before I even talked to Tier one because she was able to submit an inquiry and we were probably like the four and a half five month mark and I'm thinking in my head there's there's no way like anyone's gonna touch it like maybe it's just a lost case maybe it fell under someone's desk and no one will ever find it and then a week later I get an email saying hey like the agent that put in an update and an inquiry on your case ya know it's been approved and within 14 days they're gonna send it to your house and I'm like looking at this email like what like I haven't it was so weird I've never seen an acceptance like this most the time they don't email you they typically do it online or they send you text and I've never seen anything like this on my visa journey so I asked a whole bunch of people and I was like hey is this an noe - or an approval like I don't understand and so then finally we got it and I knew it was approved because it said page 1 of 1 and it was weird it came on a Tuesday before Halloween and yeah it was kind of surreal and a lot of people kept telling me like once your notice of action to cons like everything's gonna keep rolling and so it was literally five almost five months cuz we filed in May 20 yeah 22nd of 2019 and then our approval notice or like it physically got approved on October 24th and then I didn't hear back until the 26th on the phone oh yeah because I thought I called them because I was looking at this email and I was just like is this an approval like is it not so the guy was like yeah no they definitely accept something to your house I'm thinking okay well there's no way it could have been the receipt all the way back from me so they must have approved it and luckily they did and it still hasn't hit me um because I just still hasn't hit me so now with our keys being approved um it is getting sent to the National Visa Center all the way up in New Hampshire I don't know why I'm pointing to South Africa but I'm sure and they are all all the approved k1 visas are getting processed there and I have to wait for a case number and I believe it got sent there I was I told myself I wasn't gonna call the NDC until after two weeks of my approval because there's no point and endlessly calling and calling when I know I know it's not there like I have to give my self like realistic expectations on this whole process and I've seen some people on visa journey they would call 33 times every single okay but they want to call 33 times almost every single day but and - from their approval till their case number they were calling 33 times and I was like oh my gosh I was like I cannot imagine so to call the National Visa Center is a whole other thing itself I found a hack to it however there's a non-immigrant number and then there's an immigrant number that any immigrant number technically is for spousal visas and other I believe H visas and I I'm not completely sure but I knew for a fact that the Kalin was a non-immigrant visa and I've heard so many stories about people waiting for two hours to talk to an agent for two minutes just to find out that their case wasn't received or they didn't get a case number so I was like you know what I'm gonna do my research on it found a non-immigrant number literally took two minutes two minutes waiting time to talk to someone and they were like yeah we received your case I'm so so date I believe it was like November 7th and they really roll it will make a case number for you within two more days I was like there's there's no way like everything that I've read this says it takes 30 days there's no way it's two days and so I called back the next week I didn't call him Monday because it was Veterans Day but I called that Tuesday because I knew that was the date of shipping to the embassy and that's a whole nother thing um so I called them yesterday and they actually had a case number ready I was so surprised and it was interesting because the case number goes to the embassy that your fiance or beneficiary is going to take their interview to so my case number started out with like s yd 2019 and a whole bunch of other numbers after that so a correlate so for example people that are doing their interview and London will be like lnd and a whole bunch of numbers I found that really interesting and so I was able to plug in that case number and track where my case has been and so right now it's still at the NVC I don't think it made the shipment day because it was recently prescribed or assigned a case number and it probably didn't make that giant pile that they could send off but I mean I'm still happy to get a case number within like a few weeks that was crazy fast I didn't think it would go that fast so many people been like oh yeah I know it takes two months and they're always super backed up I don't I have no clue so that was a blessing so today and yesterday are these shipment dates from the NVC to the embassy for all cases that have been assigned and however we miss that cutoff by like a few days I don't know if they assign that number last Friday or they assigned it yesterday I have no clue so our petition won't get sent to Sydney until November 26 which kind of sucks but I mean at least it's still within this month I need at least I know for a fact it's getting sent over to the embassy by the end of this month however with that case number in the meantime you are able to give that to your beneficiary or your fiancee however you want to call call it um call them not it they're gonna fill out a ds-160 which is basically their form of the application will give them a receipt number it's basically it's not similar to the i-129f but it's basically a questionnaire and it's asking you all the same questions again but it's from their point of view or from their side my boyfriend's already done this before because he's gotten a student visa so this process has been somewhat similar he's already been to the embassy before so this isn't like a nerve wracking test or task that he has to do he's already gone through this right now we're getting like police reports and different documentation 'he's just because we know how fast this is all coming together my prediction for him coming over okay okay actually in my prediction for an actual interview might be the end of December and the beginning of January however it takes like almost a week or two just to get the physical passport in your hand so I have no clue but with all of that being said it's a really crazy experience because I have no clue it's gonna happen within the next month or two it's all kind of starting to hit me and I'm really excited but I'm also really nervous I'm excited to finally see my significant other again it's been almost six months but it'll be really weird aspect to know that like he'll be here for good and so I think once we schedule this medical exam and we schedule this interview it'll be crazy like it won't hit me I think it's something when you doubt when you look into the k1 visa process you hear all these things but once you're finally getting to those steps it's almost surreal like I like I feel like I should be jumping up and down because I'm so excited and I knew these things are gonna come but I didn't think they were gonna come I don't know if the word is this fast or like this is an actual like real process I don't know maybe it's because I am so young or this typically is a process that most college students do it's been very educational however I've loved all the people that I've met online from this this has been a really cool experience especially people that have other fiance's and significant others from Australia and they're able to review their counselor experience and it's gonna be really interesting to see how everything pans out just because oh I don't know it's just it's crazy so we're just trying to gather up a whole bunch of documents I'm so so excited to at least have a shipment date that this this month like finally what we've been waiting for like our petition is being sent to Sydney and like we're tying up loose ends and that's right around the holidays so it's kind of a touchy it's kind of a touchy time it's exciting but it's also like bittersweet cuz I don't think it'll all be approved before the holidays because you can't technically buy a ticket to the United States until you know as he has that he's in his hand there I've seen so many instances where people pass their interview booked a ticket and then they're like I don't even have my passport so how could I leave and it's just it's a crazy crazy experience I don't know if I'm ready for it I'm ready for it mentally like absolutely but like physically him being here like permanently will be insane absolutely insane especially being on a college campus where everyone has the luxury of being with their significant other it will be I don't I don't know what it is like I guess have a normal like day-to-day relationship I'm used to just seeing that person for maybe a week or two at a time like I've probably only seen my boyfriend a total of like an entire month out of this whole year so it's it's crazy to think that everything's coming to an end but it's also just the beginning because once he gets here we have to file for a green card and that only a whole other story but until then I'll update you guys as to when our petition actually gets to Sydney if we have an interview date when this medical exam will actually happen I have no clue I'm just as curious as y'all so we'll see happens
