hi welcome to founder of the day my name is Jason and I write daily articles and now publish YouTube videos about on the American Revolution notably focusing on some of the more obscure founders of this country today I am going to cover what I've been doing with these first few videos which is the founders we don't really remember today but in their time were luminaries just Kings among men so to speak when it came to the men in the room creating this nation I'm gonna start today with a little story when I was in college I took a class called Jeffersonian democracy which focused on Thomas Jefferson and his agrarian arguments against Alexander Hamilton during the Washington administration now the result of this of the final paper I had to write was I had to go find a more obscure founder and write about them sound familiar that's what I do today but what I did at the time is I took the Declaration of Independence and I read the names on there and I said huh there's a lot of people here so then I read the Constitution more specifically the names that signed it I noticed how some of these people some of these people signed both and then I looked at the Articles of Confederation and realized there were a few people who signed all three so I went back to the result of the First Continental Congress which we often forget the First Continental Congress was very short compared to the Second Continental Congress and the result of it was the Continental Association which initiated a boycott against British goods excuse me and I quickly realized there was one name that appeared on all four documents and that name was Roger Sherman and I of course wrote my paper and gave my presentation on Roger Sherman and fell in love with the founders so Roger Sherman is quite possibly my favorite founder I hold him very close to my heart so I think today we'll go back and look at what the role that he played which was a humongous role in the founding of the United States now whenever I start talking about Roger Sherman I'd like to point out how similar his story is to that of Benjamin Franklin just like Franklin he was a self-made man came from a lower middle-class family but his father died when he was very fairly young and he it was forced to take charge of his siblings and mother and care for them he moved from Massachusetts at that point to Connecticut apparently on foot started a small homestead and became a cobbler today we would know what cobbler is a shoemaker of course but much like Franklin he continued working he he ended up opening a general store right across the street from Yale were all those rich kids students were going to college and made quite a tidy profit off...
