you like okay oh hey guys at the moment i'm toffler I say hey guys McNeal and Zanna from Brampton I'd like to clarify our name it is Louise um we say Lewisohn because all the really joyous villagers Falls Lucy backgrounds Louise all so because we have the fussy so we're gonna talk about that so today we're talking about how do I understand your repair bill from when a mechanic you know hands over your bill maybe a mini estimate because before it's a bill is an estimate how do you understand you or the answer has to be that they gave you so you can save money on that so before you get a bill you should be a hundred percent provided with an estimate cracked old time so you provide your customers with an estimate and we're gonna be talking about how to save money in your auto repair bill I know to do that you need to understand your estimate because you would get an estimate from your shop before it's a bill so your estimates are supposed to have a breakdown I think that's ing to do consumer protection rate we supposed to have your part for your labor separate thanks and once you understand your bill understand what parts and labor is then you can figure out how to save money by you know shopping around for your work parts for example now they're gonna be pros and cons of doing that which we're gonna get into a little bit later but when you get that bill or that I think it has to be yeah when you get that estimate generally speaking your mechanic or your service attendant always make it seems like a you gotta fix this now or you gonna die you get that you know you gotta do today right now right make a decision right now but yeah but ask yourself I mean he fighting come into the shop today for that oil cheese betray I would say one more day without fixing that thing whatever that thing is right now I mean it doesn't mean you got to put it off for like months on end I'm just saying you can take one day the stomach and think about it understand you bill and decide what's the best affordable or economical way for you to fix that you can think about it there's you can think about it you can you know decide whether you wanna you know oh what is the cost for the parts well maybe you know I can source out my own parts if you you know exactly and about about sorting you own parts out that would be where I guess some of that savings can be but because like in everything in life right you put the time into it you will save money if you don't have the time then you can sue do research no you're not getting hosed but at the end of the day if you understand like you know the service shops are technically parts places as well they make a profit on the parts so if you can get the part out cheaper than your mechanic is offering I'm sure you should be able to do some sort of a price match because it's kind of nice for the mechanic to do everything because it's easier to warranty the job if you were to go ahead and give you one part it's a puzzle so the once the mechanic is the plate the one who's actually physically working in your car there they actually offer warranty on the parts yes if I were to buy my own parts I don't get that part warranty well you get the parts warranty from wherever you want the part from so you didn't buy the part for your mechanic so that the fact that you include a third party into your you know think there is easy for them to play the blame game well it's not me it's the part you know it's a part you provided me right so you know you so the eye sees in the moon for some when you give the part to the mechanic and there's something wrong with cart the mechanical or the mechanic and easily blame the part before it exactly you know so shopping around if you buy if you buy the part yourself than you have you given yourself that a little bit of an income right now that the possibility of complain to say you say she say we say that show you can source those your own parts but give your mechanic a chance to match whatever savings you find in your parents your that way get your parts from who left the mechanic source the part but if you want a better price on and show him the part of price that you sourced and lie to your mechanic the match whatever and then and then rewind it a little bit to make it clear we're not saying if your mechanic say your party and something and you feel unsafe doing it you you have to drive the car I mean hunt safe driving the car you have to drive the car away and say well I'll do it tomorrow if you feel unsafe because he makes it sound very urgent you got to do it now or it's really unsafe you can leave the car on you show up you know spike and slide and leave the car there and say okay you know I'll take the room I'll take a bus home but I'll call you tomorrow my decision I got disgusted with my family I'm gonna fix it but I just have to you know talk to my family you figure out how I'm gonna get that money for you and then I'll get back in touch with you tomorrow so that way you're not driving the car that you think is unsafe to be clear but when you go home and you read that estimate you could now call around and see how much your part is gonna cost you that that's not that's where I'm getting at so you want to make sure you understand like what the quality of the part is the OEM part om wood means like the the like same as the specification so there's like aftermarket parties movie in parts you can basically get make sure it's the same type of quality guys you know for example a brake pad you can arrange from you know maybe 20 bucks all the way up to $150 right it all depends on the quality of car to get so if you are stickler on having your your car working you know better than everybody else on you know what I mean like I would say the best thing for you is to buy buy own parts to monitor costs because at least you know what part on what quality parts on your car that's you you know so you know you people just drive at an average whatever car and you just you know taking into work whatever I mean you can use the mechanics part I'm sure it's fine because you'll be able to warranty but if you if you need to kind of car a guy or girl who just once you'll have zero trusted anybody and you're worried that oh well if I use the mechanics parties it's good right use he's gonna take an old part from his shop or chip agreed TV quality part you know so you can pay for like a ceramic and he gives you cheap pad right so just buy your own parts and be like you know here you go and you can have trust in your parts because you know that you bought a good brand oh good good hard right it's a hey you go I'm gonna supply the part and then you just do your labor right now if you do it that way if you use a local neighborhood shop I'm sure you could ask them to pay the taxes for you if you were to pay cash alright so you just let them know that you know you know I'll pay cash so I don't want to pay the agency you pay the HST you know what I mean oh it's no invoice you know it just did they'll deal figure out they won't axes us that's not your problem and this will be cheaper for you as again part of all the discussion was saying about savings again understanding that bill so we understand the parts the donors explain how the labor is generally calculated so labor it's basically the time it takes for the mechanic to I guess fix whatever's wrong with your car so every day shop will have an hourly rate and the hourly rate should be posted so when you you know if you're going to a man can't shop for the first time or you're testing it but like a small die across the street or whatever you ask what his hourly rate is if it's not obviously posted asked I don't know what is a generally like our hourly rate I think you need in tires but like 99 or 105 or something an hour right some of the bigger franchisee ones would be like 50 150 bucks an hour or more right small shops and hours have probably been charged 65 an hour right so you can shop around the hourly rate of the shop now the most shops should charge you this same house right because we all use a similar program to do an estimate in other words if I need to get my brakes and motors fixed at hourly wage should be the same across any shop I go to yes generally so I mean it could plus a minus 0.5 or something half an hour because of your car if we put in the system and exist them say is that the system in most mechanic shops use any you know good incredible wrecked making mechanic shop would use it you would say 2 hours for example for a job but if I look at your car or the age and model I figure it might be rusty might be more difficult to work on I can probably judge 2.5 hours right because remember they always just suggest that so it'll be ballpark the same it'll be times whatever that Holi rate is another way to negotiate the make the mechanic is possibly and especially if you provide your own parts and you are paying cash you may be able to negotiate a little bit on the hourly rate because the hours of the hours is what's fair in the industry for him to do the job so it's probably hard to do though because if you think about you as a person who has a job you know that's basically your your that's why your that's the salary you're paying the mechanic right you know what I'm saying so it's almost like you know you're asking somebody to negotiate like you know today instead of getting 60 bucks an hour you know is it okay if you can work well if you're nice about it I mean the most he can say is I can't I'm just saying if you're not gonna be a stickler bar to be a you know dick about like hey you have to do this or nobody probably is a matter of negotiating exactly so I mean if I already you see you give them if the mechanic is doing an official estimate for you like an official invoice so he has its parts on it his labor his shop supply you know he's just going and printed off of the computer it's kind of hard to negotiate that because that computer says you paid XP you ever done the legwork you've already provided your part you've already you know willing to pay cash there there's no heat voice no paper trail basically he now he can round off is what I'm saying so if he was gonna charge you you know two hours and he's 80 bucks an hour that means us what 160 right so so I'm sure if you see we didn't reason say I got a hundred fifty bucks cash when you do when you consider doing a job you and he probably will not say you know you know I mean so I'm saying we did reason and even if he says no and say well I think 160 is fair keep in mind you save into taxes and you also he didn't make any money on the parts so you know it just both showing the flexibility and save some money so gonna in a nutshell you know look at your estimate take your time don't feel like you gotta pull the trigger right away in deciding that your car has to get fixed you know take your time review your estimate you know you won't work if you want to do some home marketing after time and you want to put the effort into sourcing your own parts sounds like that's probably the biggest part of the bill you can save money on this source you own parts and then the other part of the bills the the mechanics labor rate and again you know the bigger savings are probably you know having sourcing your own parts if you're comfortable using the mechanics parts to show the mechanic you know the prices that you let on the part let the petrous part or if you want to just by yourself that way you know what quality parts you know I'm a laborer just gently you know maybe round up or round down the believer rates but you know we've been really respectful about it because you know yes it is the mechanic needs to make a living - so we don't want to be counting and then you know just just another key point to end on just keep in mind that most mechanics you know trust in mechanics will not suggest something that your car doesn't need so a way to save money is not putting off that repair not doing it okay and then we can't show you just I'm not just gonna blindly say the car need X Y & Z oh say come let me show you let me show you why your your car needs you know new brake pads ER well yes exactly so you should show you what the car needs so don't think that is vision you know if he says you need it you know you know most mechanics would be honest about that stuff so yeah if you try to find affordable way to do it what you need to do it right so again hopefully that was informative and good luck with your reverse
