loved it by the way all this idea of like guessing the price you know like which was like yes you know it and then you would be wrong that was okay that was fun i feel like we should do oh we should edition about scaling new heights our goal of course with this is to introduce people that are presenting there so you can learn about their sessions but also to share stories and experiences of going to these conferences uh in hopes that if you're on the fence it's going to motivate you to do it because it's probably one of the best investments you can do in yourself i think you guys would both agree with that right oh yes absolutely wonderful so what i'd like to ask is i'm going to start with uh mark why don't we start with you first would you quickly introduce yourself then we'll go over to you audrey because i'd like to then find out a little bit about your session absolutely so i am mark i'm the ceo and co-founder of noify and as you may already know if i is an app for construction companies on quickbooks and we've been around for like you know five years and we are good friends with matthew and and i think that you know we have some exciting stuff today to share with you guys i do have one quick thing i have to interject and this is specifically for um i need you to tell tanya that you and i met before you met tanya please i think that we've already had this conversation i can confirm that it's true it is true i i i did meet matthew first sorry sorry okay i digress so audrey would you please introduce yourself to i mean i believe a lot of community already knows you but please introduce yourself sure i am audrey blackburn and i am the owner of blackburn consulting accounting and tax and um i'm just honored to be here today and be my second year teaching at scaling this year i taught during covid so hey my first time right so this is going to be fun so real quickly i mean how was your experience with that i mean i was there as well it was definitely a smaller show but um but what a great experience like it it was a lot of fun it was a lot it was it was different i think for me almost i was glad that it was smaller because it was my first experience teaching to like my peers right like i've taught plenty of people in person and on the web but never to my my peers and i was so nervous about that and um yeah i having a smaller group i think i had maybe 20 maybe they came in the room i was really impressed however i will say half of them are my friends so i think they came for moral support we still learn from each other even if we're friends it's still important stuff because yeah the mind they had to choose whether to be in yours or in something else true very true um and last year was different because of so many people were watching virtual and we were supposed to be recording and all this and my all my whole presentation everything just messed up we couldn't do it we couldn't record it like there were so many tech issues but it worked out perfect and um but mine is different in that mine is highly interactive you will not sit and not do anything in my session i love that we're gonna dive into it one second but real quickly janice i would love to be able to bring my mom to scaling new heights but somebody has to watch my dogs so i'm very fortunate that she uh helps me on that side of it so you're at your your session before we dive into that let's actually ask mark so mark you i know you've been to scaling new heights before obviously it's um it's where we first met uh one of the things i love about telling people about notify is notify is actually the first company who gave me the opportunity to speak or be up on stage in this industry it was at scaling new heights uh was that three years ago um up in utah so wow all right yes that was my very first opportunity and i've always always been grateful for it because i had already set a personal goal for myself that by 2019 i had wanted to be able to speak at quickbooks connect and truly that really helped me accomplish that so thank you thank you we are like you know you know that we've always been like we always appreciate you a lot and i said you were pretty much the very first person that we met in the network and i think that we you know we've kind of like walked this journey together and i think that that's kind of like uh you know sometimes people ask me you know like why do you go to accounting shops you know you guys are selling to contractors why do you have this accounting channel and is that you know because these are like the true like transformational advisors for these contractors you know like most of these small contracting firms they cannot do it by themselves you know they need help they need someone that understands business understands books that can guide them through the process and that's why we partner with with you matthew and with the rest of the accounting industry to to you know to change it together i mean i want to work together i love it so audrey you were you're mentioning about how your your session is very interactive if you don't mind can you give us kind of a a taste of it in a sense tell us like what are you going to be teaching about so i'm going to be talking about nonprofit advisory which if you work in the nonprofit world you know that is so completely different than doing advisory with anyone else because there are definitely different needs but some things overlap you know from small business i started out working in non-profit when i was 19. i am not ashamed to say i will be 49 on monday and so i've been doing this a long time um i started out as an employee always doing accounting that's all i've ever done and um so i feel like i have just a different insight having been an employee for many years in non-profits and now serving them on the opposite side as the accountant outsourced and um so what i do when we talk about nonprofit advisory i can't stand to go to a class like my favorite class and you know don't be offended anybody my favorite class at scaling has always been anything dom brolin teaches because she is just funny and engaging and you just i don't like to be bored right i mean i love to learn but let's face it like i take tax courses and you sit through tax courses and you know typically those are horrific but dong can make them hilarious you know and engaging and fun and so um i wanted to do the same thing and um and so i thought you know i've i've got to make this engaging and how better to do that than let people role play um with you know and doing it like hey i'm i'm you're doing non-profit advisory and i'm the non-profit client and i am not a easy non-profit client in my role playing so i make it a little challenging um because this is the stuff we deal with in the real world you know we um last year well last year and actually this year as well linda and i did a session role play your way to advisory and we're going to be doing it combined together again this year um we're hoping with even larger it's a lot easier to do with the larger audience that's live right there than but it was pretty great through video wise same idea of getting people up and pretending and having somebody having somebody from the audience come up and act like the pain in the rear client mark i'm sure you're familiar with paying the rear clients right i mean accountants i mean clients um and just how do you handle those conversations how do you find how do you find the advisory opportunities so it sounds like you're doing it's the same thing specialized to non-profits yes so um you know and as far as the nonprofits finding the opportunities we actually talk about that there's a whole section of my presentation that's on um what to look for and what presents itself as an advisory opportunity which just like with a for-profit business it's pretty much anything we forget um as accountants that most of us are already doing advisory we just have no clue that's what we call it right and i think that's where you and linda came in on that and it was funny because i had no clue you guys were doing that session and i'm sure you had no clue i was doing mine and i'm like how did we both have this amazing idea at the same time i got to give credit to linda if i remember correctly like it was her brainchild right off the bat and and that's great yeah linda is awesome she is she's a super knowledgeable person and you know it's i got to say everybody that one of the awards they do at scaling to whites every year is somebody who's really moved into a niche if there's anybody in my mind who truly deserves that award this year it's linda it really is because she has absolutely she's moving into that legal niche just masterfully and i just remember her whole journey with that stuff so it's really neat to see that part of it um now one of the interesting things is with advisory a lot of that has to do with reporting as well right um and mark we'll get into notify in a bit but reporting is a big part of notify right i mean it just it's kind of tied in together like noah fi for the construction industry for specialized construction everything else all that information the reporting is so it's it's what makes noify well one of the major things makes note 5 so powerful for construction companies right and also showing this kind of like you know yes you know reports data insights that most of these small businesses they didn't have a way of like seeing before you know they didn't know that this was an option you know sometimes when we show them you know like a work in progress report and okay these you know these are your projects this is how much you spend for in this period of time uh you know over over bill under bill they they see the light it's like wait a second now i can use this data to you know like to maybe beat more intelligently or actually like to manage my projects better and i think that makes a difference for small businesses that they didn't know about the idea of like leveraging your own data you know like leveraging understanding what you are doing and i said that that's been transformational and those are the embraces they have you know a huge advantage that's for sure so i'd love to ask both of you because it's a this is what i love about bringing a vendor and an accountant at the same time when we speak about advisory i've always personally found there's a visual aspect of this that helps it become understandable i guess is the best way to say it like if your hands i think we've all had the example where you give somebody a p l um you know i'm sorry different terminology for nonprofit my apologies statement of activities uh we call them i call them pnls they understand it better got to be appropriate here um but they go and they look at it and they just look at the bottom number now again nonprofit's usually more budget-based but i think ironically i think a non-profit is probably more in tune with understanding how the center numbers impact the bottom right oh yes my my nonprofit clients are so much more engaged and question things and make me come and bring my a game with the advisory piece a whole lot more than my for-profit because my for-profit they just get so focused on tax you know like how much tax do i got to pay they don't think about budgets like most for-profits don't even have a budget at least the ones i deal with because i deal with small business um and you know they just like you said they don't they don't think of what that makes that up and with no if i i'm familiar with nullify so um i know you know there's so much information it can pull out for the construction industry you know it's it's huge and construction is more engaged than the nonprofit construction i think well yeah the construction i have had let's say that no flight users are because they've evolved right yeah i think that's a good way to say it because there's a lot of construction users that are peter and paul pockets right that are like true not getting to what they need but when they evolve to notify they i i do agree with you and most of them when they come to know if i they have never budgeted it i mean and we asked them i mean like let's let's start with the simplest concert like let's have like a bucket of like dollars no this goes to labor this goes to materials this goes to subconscious goes to equipment start with this don't get too fancy but at least something you know like a point of reference and it's to the extent that sometimes we will take your contact with your customer your proposal we'll remove the markup and then we create the budget for you you know okay you didn't want to budget that's cool but we will actually try to do it for you so you get you know you get used to this and i think that's a process that you know it's kind of like an educational process transformational process that that goes a long way for those that embrace it so i want to actually you know talk to you mark about a couple things with notify you've had um it's been a couple pretty interesting months for you right for your company i mean you guys have been building this and working it so for quite some time taryn you've got some amazing people working for you taryn and madison are both awesome um you know one of the last times i went to new york taran took the time to come down and have dinner with us who's awesome madison stole my sweatshirt it was make sure she sees this inside joke in toronto but you're now doing more with quickbooks online advanced can you tell us a little bit about that like tell us a little bit of the excitement of what's going on in your company um so yeah i have breaking deals but that's always exciting right when i come here and i you know like i break something which is like we just closed our series a uh financing so that's you know i think that that's and i wanted to and i wanted to share it here i would thank you so much i want to share it here with you because as i you know as i said before it closes the circle right we got started together we met at the beginning we've always believed in accountants and the accounting industry extra as the i know it sometimes this world people are already tired but really like advisors you know like advising these small businesses like helping them transform and and and when investors ask why do you go to these accounting shows right why do you why do you have an accounting channel you don't sell to accountants it's like true but but they are the change agents you know like they are the ones that the contractor will listen to if anyone you know like they will not listen to it that's for sure but they will listen to the account and we know when when audrey shows up it's like okay this is a mess we have to fix it we have to fix it you know and that's a reality for us and that's why we partner you know i know that you will always see a vendor as someone trying to sell you something right in these shows we actually don't try to sell anything to the account we actually try to work together you know like let's see how we can work how can we work together how we can put like an advisory like program together how do we go to contact us and show them that tools like you know if i plus the service the advisory service will make your business better and that's all we are about you know like i said that that goes a long way much better than just like trying to sell you something right now so but that was a piece of piece of news number one piece of news number two was that you know you know the good work in the accounting industry you know like all the friends that we have here everybody in this in this room some of them have actually been rooting for us since the beginning um we did sign a partnership with intuit a month ago which is a very big deal for us i cannot explain everything yet because you know into it but but but it's a very exciting one it's around quickbooks or in advance um and i think that it's gonna give these small contactors even like a better experience you know we want them to feel like it's like like you know we fire into quickbooks at like five are one you know they just feel the seamless experience i think that you know we are on track for that and i'm very excited so i i am happy that to be here today and share it with you hector was just saying in the comments that he agrees with you that um it's hard to get the small business owner to change apps if the accountant doesn't give it their stamp of approval so i agree um if you guys love the idea or agree with the fact that we are the agents of change give us a yes thumbs up in the comments please you know let us know you agree to it because it it's a powerful role it's something that's important with what we do and if we don't have a good i mean audrey i'm sure have you ever had like an app that you tried to recommend and it bit you in the butt oh yes oh yes and i have my tech stack now and i firmly believe in it and it's funny because i was telling before you know we started this today i was telling mark that i recommended nullify recently because i have a construction client and i said to them if you would just invest in this software i can promise you that it will make a lot of these issues go away for you that you're having and it's because of colleagues and and and vendors and you know app providers that we have this um information to us that we can go and recommend something right and we can say hey this is what you need to do but yes i have had it bite me when it was not a really good app that you know that's why it's so important these relationships i don't know if the app providers realize that but accountants our clients do listen to us a lot you know and our our reputation's on the line so i was going to ask this question later but since tonya and you both were bringing up about notify i figured i would just jump ahead and put this pull out there of if you wanted to learn more about noafi we're going to keep the conversation going but heck might as well get that done and um get answers from everybody so um yeah i i've definitely seen that over time um what makes a good application is always the team behind the app 100 and if you've got a good company that really stands behind they listen to the input from their users and it doesn't mean they implement everything because there's also something in development that's understood you listen to the consumers on their pain points but you don't always accept their answers as the best way to fix it because when it comes to software development it's a whole different bag to understand like what it really takes to code something is just a whole different deal i mean if you want to put a middle initial i always use this one so if you've heard it before i apologize you got a database of a person's name and all of a sudden you decide you want to put a middle initial in there oh yeah you just draw a little box put them in initial no it's not like that you need to actually code an extra table in the database for the middle initial you need to draw the box on the page where it knows where to go to and then you need to code in every single place on the entire application that any place that middle initial may need to go to so ten thousand dollars later you now have a middle initial that nobody's gonna ever use so it's um is that about pretty close that is very accurate that is really accurate but realistically you do have to listen right and especially as a notify we did not come from the construction industry you know we were trying to build something else for professional services and contractors started to sign up for noify and and you know we would call them up and ask them why did you sign up what are you guys doing here it's like this is not software for content also they will be like but it does what we want you know like it shows me like you know profitability actions versus estimates you know it helps me like track my project i'm going to use it either way so realistically we ended up being notified for contactors because of contractors literally because they they designed everything they came up with all the features you know like that's it's been it's been obviously the process of like you know filtering out listening to them translating what they say to what they actually need or what they actually mean but it's been it's been them and the same with accountants half of our features are like you know accounting related all of them came from like conversations like this one today with with this ask new hatch quickbooks connect small groups you know like them giving us feedback mark this is not well you know save me time with this one you know like let me do this you know and you know over time you keep building it and you can make it stronger so that's you know 100 the customer feedback is on the and in this case the partner feedback is everything so hector's added a comment in um talking about and before i read the comment actually i want to kind of draw attention to hector and tonya schulte actually just recently did a really really great webinar series on construction where they specifically talked a lot about notify so hector if you want to drop that in the comments like a link to it feel free to um that would be it's something you could definitely read through he was talking about t sheets was a great example great team fast-paced and change uh of change high ratings accounts recommended it with their eyes absolutely i even had it on my website um they did a great job asking for it too um now qb time not so much the team changed now the same app changed as well um this actually so i definitely agree with that it makes me ask an interesting question so um in non-profit does ty how does time tracking play into non-profit uh especially with like right especially if it's designated funds and such can you tell me a little bit more about that yeah so you hit that one right and i completely agree with hector and hector you need a non-profit uh you know series hello you know somebody who could possibly do that with you if you'd like i can help connect you yeah yeah so yeah it time is huge in non-profits because people work on grants and they work in programs and we want to track that because we need to do that reporting job costing i i think you know construction job costing right yeah we call it i call it i still call it job costing and non-profits but it's not really it's more project costing um or program but it's huge and i'm going to tell you i was number one fan of tea sheets and i was also the same person that when i heard intuit took them over i was sick and i had no problem telling everybody because i said they will ruin it and i don't use it i use it none now i do not recommend it i have not used it i have a client that tried to use qb time same construction client this is how we ended up with noafi talking about it because um qb time quickbooks can't figure out how to get them set up on it properly i like it's your product i have some news onto that actually because okay so first off i agree they've definitely had some major challenges i just yesterday had a conversation with a couple of the team members behind the scenes um i don't know if everybody's noticed but there have been changes just in quickbooks online on the login process how that's being done yes um whether you're like usb username and password now it's the email okay we'll send you an email or you can choose the phone number blah blah and bringing quickbooks time in house um getting that stuff to sync together was causing me major major headaches especially like you know trying to use quickbooks online projects quickbooks time and payroll for like marketing agencies and software companies um they really jacked it up for quite a bit but they are they're about eighty percent of the way through getting this stuff correct and adjusted and it's getting to where it's gonna be better so i will report back to everybody when i see it fully on the way but their vision is better it's getting there um but the time tracking stuff like it's it's so important it's gotta be right no rounding areas none of that kind of stuff and then especially with construction notify like that nullifies whole hub is about job costing true job costing delegating time scheduling time everything else and you got to have it just right so that's why you even have that in your own platform i believe right no for sure and realistically i see that hector also mentions here like quickbooks online projects has been always because i'll also be a little of a headache for everybody especially us that we manage projects and they don't have it in their api and we cannot sing with them it's kind of like a back and forth and i've been with meetings uh in meetings with intuit and we are working on that together but you know a big company takes time i think that they they know what they are doing it's just that it's going to be a little bit painful for everybody until until they get there i just wish they would take maybe 1 million of the 12 billion that just went to mailchimps and finish up custom fields on [Laughter] the custom fields i don't want to go on a ramp because it's so easy for me on this one the access to the custom fields especially for something like with noaa fire any third-party application if you could push data into that imagine the reporting everything else you could do by interacting with that information um it could just be so powerful so make it happen so even non-profit think about like with non-profits which you could do well i wish someone would come along hint mark and develop i in my world in my head construction and non-profits are very similar they probably don't seem like it to you and and those that are working in construction are like what but the needs in a lot of aspects are similar they're very high need industries um they need the project costing they need to tie things to jobs or in our world programs or grants yeah and i would love to see someone come along with a program like noahify for the nonprofit community um you know and it just yeah hector says greg yeah i know i love greg and he does he teaches both because they're so similar construction and non-profit i mean it just it would make our lives though as accountants so much easier and you know maybe we need to develop that app well in in the comments how many people here are working whether it's specialized or not how many people are working with non-profits um one or specialized either way let us know in the comments um you know if you are or not and then we're gonna ask about construction after that but we'll do the you know we got both so um i it's it's always interesting to see uh you know i'm still i'm still more of a generalist and trying to move into a specialist um but it can be difficult to do it so we're getting a lot of both we've got one non-profit so uh teresa and melissa thank you so much um less on facebook let me say now that this is the time to move into the construction niche so many new companies will be creating here you know so many projects so much money going into construction you want to be advising these companies you know they will poop up from everywhere they will not be organized they will need help that's a reality and i'd say the same thing about non-profits um they're they're people i hear all the time accountants say there's no money in nonprofits they're not gonna pay you my highest clients that pay me the most money are my non-profits because they need the most help you know they need they need that cfo they need that person that they can pick up the phone and call about anything um so yeah construction's the same way it's a fast moving industry they need a lot of advisory we we have a decent number of specialty constructions like is what i would call a decent number of specialty construction clients we have um two non-profit clients as well um the nonprofits i i gotta say i mean they're fun and exciting to work on but they are very complicated yes um but the construction ones one of my i've always said you should never hire a friend on as a client but when a client becomes a good friend it's a win and i've got a great buddy named donny dh3 surfacing who man he's construction he's just a blast to do work with and he wants to learn he's excited and like motivated by it does he love you donnie does he pick it up every single time we have a couple extra training sessions on certain things but but he's always trying to improve so it they're fun to work with for sure definitely um so now with notify i mean we're we're talking let's back and forth about notify we'll actually have you back on sometime in the future to do an actual true demo of notify this is more about sharing about the shows everything else but there's some other really great um assets within the program itself like you can actually set up and you can you can set up um your permits job permits from inside of the program yeah we've been we've been working on those things that you know what are the most painful things for a contractor right and there are many that you will solve as an advisor and some others will be solved by quickbooks but things like going to the building department right like to like to pull a permit so we have a partnership with permits.com to do that and they will you know through notify you will do it automatically and and that goes by the way like exactly to the call of job costing right like three years ago i would chat with a contractor and i would ask them okay so how do you how do you put permits well i drive to the building department i spend like three four hours and then i come back he's like well but that's costing you money no i'm not costing you money no it's because it's my time it's not costing me money and it'll be like no that's actually costing you money it's like three or four hours that you're not spending like calling leads you know like engaging with customers working with your crews plus it's actually part of your salary goes there you know like these three four hours have to go to that project so job costing you know like those three hours are job costing so um we try to fix all these little things that the industry has always perceived in in our opinion in in in not the best way you know and we try to help them you know like embrace it it will help you you know you will save time you will save money but for real and if you are not saving time of money at least we will let you know you will know in our charts that you are not saving time and money and the answer will be there for you so audrey for what would you say when it comes to advisory what is the most important area of advisory for non-profits like what's what's your top tip trick or something like that maybe your second one you can save the first one for your show if you want or you can give us the first one give us a good one you mean um as far as what's the top thing that they typically need advisory on yeah thank you for yeah you did a better job clarify i just want to make sure i understood the question um gosh the the easiest one i can think of off the top of my head because see i get i it's so ingrained in what i do i forget half the time it's advisory but the easiest one is is around money like budgeting and the whole process with budgeting and tracking things and um so my non-profits that i work with i actually very much am the driver of the budget and i lead that i pull all the people together i get the information from them and i challenge them during the budget process like what they're putting on the table i'm like no we're not spending that or why do you need that because i know i sit in on all the board meetings i know the board's going to come back and be like we're not approving that you know or why do you need a four percent raise you know i mean which is silly but you know and then at the same time i went to the board and advocated for those same things for employees i mean i had one non-profit i came to and that and had raises in 10 years and it was because no one ever went to the board and said you can afford to give these people raises and when they did the board was like absolutely and they voted and approved it and um but it was funny because i'm like did no one think to to bring this up so i think the most important part of advisory whether it's a for-profit or a non-profit is listening to what's the issue finding out you have to dig you have to ask a lot of uncomfortable questions yeah yeah and and you just find out like i mean in part of my um session we talk about there's like a whole was a whole employee issue going on that was causing a non-profit not to have the money they needed and because i was so ingrained in that nonprofit i noticed it and i actually had to go to the executive director and push her to look at this issue and after a year and a half she finally fired the person and the income doubled in almost a month when she fired them yeah it was crazy and it was because the person wasn't doing their job but the sad part was this is a person who had been there a long time but things had changed right and um and so if you're not willing to listen if you're not willing to dig and get uncomfortable then don't get an advisory it's good i'm just yeah it's because it's you'll get really involved with the organization so as we get a little bit closer to the end here i would love to actually ask each of you um a favorite experience or favorite moment from any conference that you've attended whether it's as a speaker or just as an attendee i'd love to hear one of your favorite memories and then a tip that you think uh everybody should know about anybody want to put their hands up to go first or should i pick somebody i'll go first cheers mark um one tip one tip would be do not have lunch or dinner alone you know like you're going to the shows to meet other people to connect you know like to discover um [Music] meet them you know like go and actually like spend time with other people i think that it's fine there's there's always people that maybe maybe like eating by themselves join them you know like go and join them and i think that's that goes a super long way great memories like i have many you know like every single show i said one in in in in new orleans when we went there with i think it was like many years ago that was kind of hard i believe yes and all these like night uh parties that they had that night with everybody all the advisors they are like go and enjoy yourself as well right try to go there and like mingle we made so great connections there i think that the best memories the best connections in since i know if i since i don't know if i have been in these shows which is like some people think that really accounting shows best memories we're not supposed to tell anybody that that's been working secrets so people think i'm going just to work the entire time i need them to think it's like dull and boring at least my clients right so we get to go and have a great time at these events but yeah you learn you make great connections potentially you make great business because you will end up with partners and you have a good time you know and i think that's it has everything it checks it checks all the boxes yeah what about you audrey oh gosh um i will say that every conference i've ever went to it's all about the people it is not about i mean the sessions are great all that is great but you go for the people um your colleagues running a business is very lonely right and well at least it is for me it's very lonely and i have staff and everything and that's not what i mean what i mean is being the leader is very lonely i feel you and being able to talk to people that do what you do experience what you experience with clients and and the headache and the heartache is huge and i met someone for the first time several years ago at scaling new heights um ingrid edstrom introduced us because she lives near ingrid out in oregon and i'm in north carolina and she has become my best friend we roomed together every year at scaling and i was so bummed because she wasn't coming this year because she's heavy into tax and she's like i just don't think i'm gonna get that much out of it you know and um she reached out to me two days ago and said well i just wanted to tell you i'm coming to scaling and i was like took over the fomo took over yes because she knows i'm teaching again and she she started and now she's also focusing on her practice on more the accounting side versus so much of the tax because of some changes that have taken place and so but i will say that the biggest memory for me other than making all these amazing friends that have made me feel less alone is i went to an accounting conference and i was in year two of my business and they ask us to write on a piece of paper um what is the thing holding you back the most like what's stopping you in your business and i wrote me and that's all i put and the head of the conference come walking up to me and said would you be willing to get up on stage and let us interview you about this and talk about this i was like sure i know no one here why not and i got up there and i ended up crying which blew my mind because i don't cry and it was all because i realized standing on that stage in front of all these amazing people i was telling them about my background and education and years of experience and the gasps in the audience were were like so loud when i said you know kind of an idea of what i charge and from that i got out of it that i was charging a fraction of what i should i came back home pitched to my two top clients what i thought was this massive package and they would never take it and told them i'd been doing them a disservice and they both took it and i quadrupled my income in three days and my annual income in three days which was huge to me huge to my business huge to my family that would have never happened if i had not went to an accounting conference where i met with my peers who were willing to share and that's huge with scaling i have never met anyone at scaling that is a competitor i don't care if we all do the exact same thing the non-profit world is very small we all get together and get excited greg boston i love him you know he shares every bit of knowledge he's possibly got in his body with you um you know megan tarno same way i mean there's so many people i could say and on the for-profit side the same way so um i just tell people if you've never been you gotta go at least once it's like everything else try it if you don't like it don't come back but honestly you come to scaling you'll come back every year just because of the people together we all succeed as i always love to say and this is a perfect example of that janice put in the comments that she agrees with you both that don't be shy put on your silly hat and just have fun and yes i mean that's about as true as it can get it's uh for me the the best part about going to these things it's it has been going to connect and meet to all these different people um i i always suggest everybody that when you're going go with a plan of attack have some time scheduled like don't over book with every single session plan some time in the hallways because when you get to connect with people and you get to have fun what's amazing is you get to then also connect to those people all year long so you may miss a session but you also gain knowledge and wisdom throughout the rest of the year and more connections through all of it oh yes i completely agree i have skipped sessions that i signed up for to sit out in the hallway and talk tanya schulte and i did it one day um she and i hit it off at one of the scalings and said and just we were having this amazing conversation and i don't know that she knew it but i just blew off my my next session sometimes it's you know the people connection and like i said if you feel lonely running your business you know it this is the place to come to yeah i really love it i'm glad you shared that part of it um as we begin to shut down here i'm going to share some slides about what we've got coming up in the next couple weeks but any last comments things you'd like to add on i know mark you're going to have a booth there so everybody needs to come see you at the booth right um i'll be there i'll be ready here so yeah make sure if you see when you go see him make sure you tell him you saw saw him on cubic committee live we always appreciate that stuff um audrey you've got uh you're teaching once one say one session but one 100 minute session which is truly that's like doing two full sessions guys it's a lot of work a lot of time and energy to put that stuff together so thank you for that effort in that time welcome so as we've um i'm going to ask one last poll question here as i then also friend of mine k keys the session we're talking is great minds do not always think alike um kate is an interior designer who's amassed an amazing following through instagram of 165 000 uh followers and it's all basically the whole intent about this stuff that we do is always around the idea of like bootstrapping your business you know you get started and it just yeah they have a whole bunch of time or whole bunch of money so it's one of the other right and we uh we're gonna kind of talk about that then next week we're going to next week we'll be doing our drawing at the end of the week for people for a free ticket for scaling new heights and i'm bringing on one of the people you had mentioned earlier the one and only of course don brolin i figured her infectious energy as a designated motivator for all of us around it would be a great person to bring on talk about her sessions as well uh chris farrell with alicia is going to be coming on as well chris is always a great person to have fun with they're doing they've got their booth but they have a whole series of sessions they're sponsoring um at the show itself and then heather spudo from adp will also be joining us as we just talk about these different experiences that going to the you know these conferences and then join uh drawing a name for a random number generator for the winner of a free ticket um after that the next week after that i'm excited to have shania jones going to be joining us she's going to talk about her session i'm working with another vendor that um trying to finalize them real quick so their name is not on here yet but we'll also have a vendor sponsor with us for that specific week and then on the 14th we're going to have ernest cook my good old buddy is going to be coming on talking about some of his sessions and then carlos who's with fujitsu and this is going to be another interesting one where people who attend basically if you're registering and attending for those two in between we're going to be doing a giveaway for a free scanner from fujitsu on the 14th so i'm trying to trying to do much more with the the different vendor apps if you guys are catching on intent mark in the future that we um we bring them on be able to have them kind of talk about certain things but also try to have some kind of a reward for people that are joining us live everything else and just to
