hello everybody my name is ian lamont i am the author of google drives in docs in 30 minutes and the founder of in 30 minutes guides today we're going to be talking about how to create a consulting agreement using google docs and a quick reminder what i'm about to show you this is true in if you're using a windows pc or a mac basically all you need is a browser preferably the google chrome browser and then just type google docs sorry docs.google.com into the top there and this screen should come up and of course you need a google account in order to make this work so basically what we're going to be doing is we're going to be taking a template from google docs that already has kind of like boilerplate contractor agreement language that you can use if you do not see the template gallery up here go to the main menu click on it select settings and then make sure that this is checked display recent templates on home screens if it's not checked if it looks like this then check it off hit ok and then you should see this at the top okay you probably will usually at the top there are the things like resumes and maybe some like a draft report document if you do not see the consulting agreement or consulting template click on template gallery to expand the whole list and you'll see all the different things they have they have brochures they have um you know business plans newsletters this and that and what you're looking for is one that says consulting agreement by a pandadoc add-on and basically what this template does is is a consulting agreement that you can customize for your own use and hopefully have it reviewed by a lawyer and by the way this is not legal advice but this is just how to use this particular feature of google docs and the consulting agreement um basically has these uh you know these placeholders that you can type over so prepared for client company so let's say that i wanted to do i30 media whoops name of my company's i30 mediacorp created by you know that could be some other company's name and and basically anything in brackets you have to change that let's get rid of this little thing i don't know what that's all about okay and this is just general legal boilerplate for some sort of consulting agreement you know you have yours the idea is you change the dates these terms you know these terms may not be good for what you're what you're seeking but this is boilerplate so the idea is if you're not happy with it you go to your lawyer and you can customize a little bit and or you know the other thing you could do is ask your lawyer to draw one up from scratch but that will take a lot longer time so the idea is you have this basic template going and it's just it's a much easier to work with you can change things like your rate terms for your invoices to be paid etc intellectual property that's a big concern for certain types of consulting work uh note this also this uh the footer it says consult your own legal counsel about exact wording this document is meant to serve as a reference um there's other terms in here confidentiality non-competition uh non-solicitation of employees and then indemnification and anything that nee that you want to take out of course you can do that um you know talk with your lawyer about that uh maybe it's not appropriate for the consulting agreement you're going to be using also this type of thing the panda doc tip you can you can just click on that and then press the delete button on your keyboard that will get rid of that and at the at the very end there's this part about the people who will be signing it so if i was doing this i would be changing the name here to i30 media corp and then this would be the client other corp or llc whatever and then i change the names here for more information on how to get the most out of google docs or google drive i've written a book about it it's available from in 30minutes.com google drive and docs in 30 minutes my name is ian lamont and thank you so much for watching
