after visiting more than 40 countries and after screwing up like that time that i almost lose a train because in new delhi i went to a different station wrong station now we run something i have learned is to plan my trips and after many iterations i have created a template that has been helping me in my latest trips that is both easy and effective some weeks ago kato arte one member of this youtube channel told me that i should be a little bit more explicit with my examples so i'm gonna walk you through on how i will plan a trip to madrid which is my hometown but then this can be extrapolated to any kind of trip so let's get started let's use this template for our case and create a new entry for madrid and let's run the template the first thing that i'm going to be doing is to check if i need a visa to that country and if i do i'm going to enter the information of what is required over here in this table first this is going to be the information but later it's gonna be the visa application or whatever document i will need to show in the immigration of the country at the time of the arrival so here is gonna be very easy to retrieve but since this is a trip to madrid and i'm an european resident i'm not gonna need visa so i'm not gonna be using this when we are starting we have two things that we have to start uncovering the first one are the flights to the country to see which states are available which are the prices to have a general idea and the next one the things to do in the country so we can more or less know how long we will need to spend in the order that we do them it doesn't really matter because both are going to impact the other so we just need to get started with one so in my case i like to start with the flights and this is how i'm gonna get started the first place that i always go is to sky scanner and i start looking for flights to the country and why i use this website because this website can retrieve information from a lot of other different clients and put all that information into one page so this saves me a ton of time let's say that i want to start looking from the 20th of september to the 25th and we can see here already that there is a non-stop flight here but that on saturday there is none so i will have to choose between friday or monday because the things that i look for when i'm looking for flights is what is the cheapest what is the fastest and to avoid arriving too early to the place this will be before 6 a.m or too late that this will be later than 12 a.m because if that is the case that will mean that there is already no public transport available and i will have to take a taxi so let's make a change and continue okay and once we have found a flight that works we're gonna be taking a screenshot and pasting it in here so this is just gonna be a reference because then later we're gonna start planning the trip and we still don't know if these four days are going to be enough to see all the things that we would want to see so now that i have a flight option i'm going to go to the next step which is going to be gathering information about the destination for doing that i normally type things to do in whatever city in this case madrid and i normally like to check blogs i don't click on the ads i don't click on these websites probably crazy tourists can be good road affair this sounds like a blog and i'm gonna keep doing this and whenever i find places that i want to visit i'm gonna go to google maps and i'm going to start favoriting every place that i want to visit this is very useful because then we can start playing our days taking into account the things that are more close to each other so let's check the royal palace and this i can assure that is very beautiful so let's put a star and i'm gonna be doing this for all the things that i'm interested in the things that i normally look for art galleries or museums concerts salsa events because maybe you know that i love dancing salsa main monuments in the city like in this case and some fun activities such as skydiving or washing dirty elephants then optionally there is also a place in this template where we can start putting all these new places that we are finding because then with this checkbox property we can be checking which of them have already been introduced in our plan so let's include the royal palace and we will do the same for all the different places of course these are placeholders so let's create madrid schedule and madrid places to visit okay so now that we have all the stars in the map of five days so one two five and i'm gonna be putting here the day then here we have several properties this first one is the city here we are just going to be writing in which city we are gonna be spending our day this is just to have a bird's-eye view in the case that in the trip we are changing cities very often so we can actually see where we are then this property is the planning property here i'm gonna be writing the things that we are gonna be doing during the day but i like to keep them very open i don't like to put times i'm just gonna be using times for those events or transportations that need time then transportation because i like to have it separate to know when i have to take each transportation where i'm gonna be sleeping in this would be the name of the hotel the big expenses in my case here i just tracked the airplanes transportation and hotels and whether or not the hotel has already been paid to keep track of that so i'm gonna get started our flight is this one so and i'm gonna continue writing the plan by the end of this process we find that this plan contains everything that we want to do in the city then we can be free of going to the next step but if not maybe we have to change the flights because if we are leaving some things out of the plan maybe we have to make the trip longer or if we have too much free time maybe we have to make the trip shorter so feel free to go back to the previous step change slides and change the plan until both fit and once that is the case we are going to go to the next step which is booking so we are just going to go back to sky scanner or whatever website we have used before and purchase those flights and in the end we're gonna drop here the boarding pass or whatever document that they have sent to us so whenever we need it be it in the airport or whatever else it's gonna be very easy for us to find it because we don't wanna go to the airport and start messing around with our emails and not finding it then once we have finished with flight tickets we can start booking the hotel in my case i normally use booking.com so i will just go there and at least i'm gonna be booking the first couple of nights because sometimes i like to leave some wiggle room just in case i want to change plans once i'm in the trip and every time that i book any of the hotels i'm just gonna be checking them as paid so i can keep track of that in our case we are just using one hotel but if we have multiple that for example we are sleeping one night per hotel then it can get quite messy so this is very helpful and if we need to include the confirmation for any of the reservations anywhere we can always put it here in the case of booking i don't need it because they're going to be stored in the app but if you are using other apps and they are not so organized this is a very good place to store them so now once we have our flights both and the first nights of hotel also booked then we just have to wait until we will start packing our luggage and for this i also have a trick because i always tend to for example forget to bring the dirty clothes back or some extra socks or i always forget something so i decided to make a checklist but there is an automated checklist if we open it over here the only thing that i have to fulfill is which is the trip data so in my case i'm going there for five days and now that is september we can consider spain as a cold country and then here in the view to bring i have automatically the list of things and the quantity this is going to take into account the number of days that i'm going there that i need to put into my luggage just to show you a little bit if i change this to let's say 10 days so all these quantities get updated and if instead of our call country the country that we are going is a warm country you can see that here we have code glows and etc but if we select one country all of that is going to disappear and get the things for warm countries are going to appear but in our case it's called so now whenever we are packing we will just be checking things off until the list is empty and we will be done we will just take our luggage
