better if you didn't know you had a c caffeine addiction quit coffee for two days wo changes your life anyways I'm doing good let me know anyways today we have another fabulous question and I'm pretty pumped about this one because it's kind of along the ways that we want to move towards being really good at our profession which is getting our work peer reviewed so let's hear that question Christopher asks watching the Canucks and wanting to know the best way to have a colleague QA my work write questions make a template Chris I like how you try to appeal to my Canadian sentiment by telling me you're watching a conu game that's awesome hi you're talking to the anti- sports hero here anyways awesome question why because we actually talked about this in our interview when we had because I know you have a podcast like that plug there anyways um the best way to gather feedback let me just basically that's what QA is and I've actually interacted with uh people who do QA and certify um uh certify companies on the iso scale right so you kind of get to know their process a little bit when you're part of the evaluation process but it's a little different when you're dealing with a colleague because then it becom kind of a a personal thing right and how do you do that so I have some tips and I'm going to keep it quick and concise all right so first you said ask questions you definitely want to ask questions you want to write them up because you want to ask specific specific uh questions for specific feedback and that means that before you even begin you have to think about what do you want to know and the reason is because when you ask somebody for feedback on a project or let's say your e-learning module people feel the need to tell you everything and what happens is you get feedback overwhelm you you get so much feedback that you don't know where to start and it overwhelms you so much that you feel like you failed somehow because you know you you missed some sentence commas or or periods right when you really wanted to know if it flowed well so what you really want to do is figure out do you want to have somebody give you feedback on the flow or the mechanics of of of an interaction that you've worked out or how is the user experience is it easy to navigate are they finding all the things that they need to do to execute this experience and or is it the accuracy of the information are they saying the right things are you using the right acronyms those kinds of things so decide what that is and then ask those specific questions also really telling is observing observing I can say that observation observing the people who are interacting with your learning experience so you want to see how they're how they're moving if they're squinting are they uncomfortable are they laughing that that's usually a sign of I don't know what to do so observe those things also and I got this one from a workshop that I attended years ago when you're doing um basically what you're doing is you're also wanting to see how they're experiencing this as a learner sometimes depending on your goals and so you might want to um simply ask them to interact or engage with your learning experience and when they're watching tell them that they can ask you questions but offer no advice no feedback no guidance of your own and when they ask you for that um information only provide what they asked for do not prompt so sit there observe as if as if you don't exist and you're just just a little uh button help question hint button and then record those because then what they do is they help you create those questions that they ask help you improve the experience for the next learner because now you know what's missing and um yes so I already told you record these experiences they're excellent because you are in the moment you never catch everything and you're also trying to think of how is this person going to interact with my uh learning experience or um how are they perceiving it and you're not actually getting the whole picture of how they're actually reacting and interacting with it keep it short so you can keep it engaged and focused on those questions so you don't digress and that keeps it fun then they'll maybe want to do it again with you because you kept it very very focused also um you want to drop your ego right I mean that's easy to say because now you're having a colleague basically give you feedback and you're hoping that they don't think you're a total fool because you you know you thought of something crazy or Innovative and you're hoping it's working but that's the process of iteration if you can't drop your ego and that's easier said than done uh or you have not established let's say you're new at a place and you're asking for feedback but you don't have that established trust yet where you you feel somebody's doing it in your best interest or giving you constructive feedback the other option is to actually either not tell them that you built it and have them review it as a you know uh an outside reviewer or have somebody else do that testing for you do that QA for you on your behalf record it and then you can examine later I hope that was helpful this is my feedback guidance what is your feedback strategies how do you gather feedback on your projects I'd love love love to
