today I will be sharing with you how I store my receipts and this is a system that I have used for many many years and it works perfect [Music] hey you guys I'm Kristen and welcome to the gold project every time I post videos I post videos at least three times a week Monday Wednesday and Friday and on this channel we have a mission to get organized on a budget and with a plan together so I hope you decide to click that red subscribe button and join our community and our mission so today is all about how I store my receipts and you guys I've had the same system like I said at the beginning for at least six years it works great I don't need to change it because if it's not broke don't fix it so I have a two-part system on how I store receipts and the first step in this process deals with my mail organizer now I purchased a mil organizer from Ikea it's the IKEA I think they call it the cave vessel I know that's not how you pronounce it but I am going to pop in that information here and it works perfect there's no reason to change it and it has five sections and one of the sections I have labeled receipts and it has a folder the folder is from Walmart so all I did was I took my label maker made a little label for the front that said receipts so anytime I get receipts from a store I take them out of my bag or my wallet or my backpack wherever it is and I put them in this folder now this is basically a receipt holding station they're not made to stay here but until I get a chance to put them in their permanent place this is where they will stay so every month or so I will go and I will pull this receipt organizer off of my mail station and I will go through them now before it gets moved to its permanent place I like to at least every six months I will pull out my permanent receipt organizer and you guys this was purchased at Walmart six plus years ago I actually think I had this in my house when I came up with this system and I just decided to go ahead and use it instead of buying a new one I don't even know the brand it may just be a Walmart brand ion fall and all it is is you open it up and it's divided out into sections and it doesn't have enough sections for every letter of the alphabet so what I did was I type these up in Microsoft Word I typed a and B has a tab C and D and F G and H I and J and so forth so this is organized by store name so Walmart would go in the W's Target would go in the t's Best Buy would go in the B's so every couple of months I will go through this receipt organizer pull everything out of each section go through them shred what I don't need anymore and then place everything that I'm going to keep long term back into its section now after I do that and get it all organized out that is when I put the new receipts in there so I will go through my receipt folder in my mail organizing station and then I'll put all of them out and then we'll sort them by name and then all of those will get stored in this mil organizer right here this mail organizer goes into a little target why we've basket that I have at the end the bottom of my Kea calyx unit yo it works great I mean it's a two-part system there's not much to it I have the folder for incoming receipts that I need to address later I will pull out those receipts take a look at them shred the ones that I don't need anymore and then place the ones that I will need long term into this ion file and you guys that is it that's how I organize my receipts it is a system that has worked and in case you are wondering I do not keep every single receipts now like my mom if you were to ask her okay I need a receipt from 2012 she could go back in her filing cabinet and pull a file folder from 2012 and have every receipt that she has ever received in 2012 I do not do that because I don't like all of that paper clutter here's what I do I will keep the receipt until we have worn it used it and I know that we are not gonna take it back to the store at that moment I shred it because I don't need it if we've already used it or worn it or anything like that I know we're not gonna be returning it so I shred it that is just less paper that is cluttering up my office so you guys I know this was a short video but I wanted to share with you if you were new to my channel how I store receipts now I know I've probably done this video a few times and the same system still applies but I like to update my videos every so often just so the people that are new here can kind of get a peek into the systems in my house so the common question of today is how do
