subject to change only an OT May perform an initial evaluation or any re-evaluations only an OT May initiate develop modify or complete an occupational therapy plan of care the OT is respons responsible for determining whether intervention is needed and if a referral is required for occupational therapy intervention only an OT has the authority to discharge clients from occupational therapy services and the OT must review any information from the otaa determine if the goals were met or not complete insign the discharge or discontinuation of Occupational Therapy Services and or make recommendations for any further needs of the client in Continuum of Care OTS are fully responsible for the planning and delivery of Occupational Therapy Services only the occupational therapy practitioner May train non-licensed Personnel or family members to carry out specific tasks that support the occupational therapy plan of care the occupational therapy practitioner is responsible for supervision log and requirements that OTAs receive frequent communication supervision and interactive uh supervision from OTS this means is up to the occupational therapist to determine the supervision needs of the otaa in each intervention note the OTA must include the name of an OT who is readily available to answer questions about the client's intervention at the time of the provision of services the OT and the intervention note may be different from the OT who wrote the plan of care and the evaluation a licensed occupational therapy assistant shall use the title occupational therapy assistant or the initials otaa a CAA is the alternate term for the otaa and is indiv an individual who is licensed by the board takes the responsibility for ensuring that he or she is qualified to use it by maintaining certification through the nbco t as of now Medicare requires that therapist in private practice or employed by a Physician Group be onsite when an assistant is treating a patient the 2025 proposed physician fee schedule will change that rule to General supervision so that therapists can be offsite when assistants are treating patients though therapists will need to be available by phone for states with more restrictive supervision levels such as direct supervision those Therapy Services are always furnished to the extent that is permitt under state law and if it's required that you be on site by state law you will still need to be on site when treating a Medicare patient most payers and State Medicaid programs defer to the state's physical or occupational therapy board rules for the supervision of assistance but may require more frequent reassessments Tricare follows the Medicare rules and requires on-site supervision and have yet to propose a change to that rule an occupational therapy Aid means a person who AIDS in the practice of occupational therapy and whose activities require on the job training and on-site supervision by an occupational therapist or an occupational therapy assistant delegation of tasks to a non-licensed Personnel includes but is not limited to routine Department maintenance transportation of clients preparation or setup of intervention equipment and work area assisting clients with their personal needs during the intervention assisting in the construction of adaptive and assistive equipment and splints the leny must be onsite and intending for any initial applications to the client carrying out a predetermined segment or task in the client's care for which the client has demonstrated some previous performance ability in executing the task non-licensed Personnel may not perform occupational therapy evaluative procedures initiate plan adjust or modify occupational therapy procedures act on behalf of the OT in any matter relating to occupational therapy which requires decision-making or professional judgment write or sign occupational therapy documents in the permanent record non-licensed Personnel May record quantitative data for tasks delegated by a supervising OT or otaa any documentation reflecting activities by non-licensed personnel must identify the name and title of that person and the name of the supervising occupational therapy practitioner supervision of Occupational Therapy AIDS is on site contact whereby the supervising OT or otaa is available to respond immediately to the needs of the client supervision of other non-licensed Personnel either on site or via tella Health requires that the otaa or otaa may maintain line of sight when OTS and OTAs delegate occupational therapy tasks to non-licensed Personnel the otaa are responsible for ensuring that this person is adequately trained in the task delegated the OTA providing the intervention must interact with the client regarding the client's condition progress and or achievements of goals during each intervention session Medicare Tri care and most Medicaid programs expressly State not to bill for the services of AIDS most private payers state that Services must be performed by a licensed therapist or an assistant under their supervision do not bill for services provided by AIDS unless
