Eric let's get to your top pick in the sector because it caught me by a bit surprise we talk about the outperformance of so many of these larger cap Tech names your top pick for 2025 and the large cap space is Uber why Uber well we are my team and I are a little bit contrarian so most of the other names have dramatically outperformed year to date when we looked at Uber we see a couple things number one an outsize risk reward our fair value is $96 that's dramatically up from where the stock is traing 55% upside you're looking correct um with we believe not much downside the also has gotten caught up in a lot of debates in the last few months uh number one the debate around weo and what will happen to autonomous vehicles over the next 3 5 7 10 years how will that impact the way we get from point A to point B um obviously some of the moves that Tesla has made both with respect to autonomous and Tesla's uh CEO Elon Musk and his closeness to the Trump Administration and there's also been a bit of a Slowdown in growth because Uber has been lapping some of the pricing Dynamics from year ago I think we all know that the prices of Ubers uh are elevated $35 for me to get from Penn Station this morning to this office like what's going on Eric so so the prices are elevated but the behavior isn't changing you're still taking them at elevated prices so growth is slowing a little bit so what we always typically look for especially with our top pick it was Amazon a year ago is where is their controversy where is their debate where can we see outsized estimate revisions and some of these debates getting settled for us that's Uber going into 2025 is Uber going to seed driverless cabs to musk and if so what's the Outlook not next year but you know as you're an analyst you're modeling out Uber's earnings potential 5 years from now when there might be a couple million of these Robo taxis floating around so in in our work and in coordinating with the global Autos team at Goldman we believe it is going to be a very long duration cycle before there are enough autonomous vehicles on the road to satiate the demand that are on the streets of Manhattan right now at 10:00 a.m. eastern on a Monday um as a result of that the operators and owners of these vehicles are going to seek yield or return in the interim and it's much more likely what you're going to see is uh something akin to the partnership that weo has announced with Uber in certain cities where these vehicles are going to be put into the Uber app so you're going to be standing on a corner open up the Uber app and not only is there going to be the usual choices of different types of Supply but low and behold autonomous vehicles are going to be there as well because there isn't a human driver they might be cheaper but they also not be as available because there won't be as much Supply so your wait time might be longer and that's how we think the supply side of this Marketplace evolves on the mobility business for Uber Eric getting back to some of your other big piics you have Google Amazon and meta you say are among the best position buy rating on all of those stocks here heading into the new year given what you were just saying before some of the outperformance that we have seen of these larger cap names what does that upside maybe more specifically look like so Amazon among those three probably has the most upside We Believe Amazon still has exposure to the widest collection of the secular themes you want exposure to in the digital economy media consumption habits shopping cloud computing AI these are all themes you want a lot of exposure to we also see forward estimates under modeled for Amazon especially around profitability there's been a lot of debate around profitability the stock became quite mired in that debate in the September October time frame and you've seen the reaction since they got it to profitability the way they did in Q4 so still a lot of operating estimate torque for Amazon that we would want exposure to plus to go back to your early point about the consumer Amazon does appear to be an outsized winner in the holiday shopping period from the what we track you do have some names you don't like and on your list you have a sell what on eBay I get it like it's eBay I me they sell like Auto Parts or whatever they're doing but Airbnb surprised me you know what is that a Peak Travel call so what it is is the normalization of travel so our view is that travel benefited dramatically from the summer of 22 through the summer of 24 we all got out of our homes we all went to Europe people went to see Taylor in Italy things like that that that that that that became very popular away from that we see a normalization to high single digit growth but the industry still needs to make a lot of investment so a growth investment slowing while making Investments and somewhat depressing margins we don't love that setup from a risk
