the slight difference between source criticism and form criticism is that whereas source criticism in general looks back for written literary sources maybe even source documents form criticism goes a step further not looking for written precursors but rather oral precursors so form criticism takes a little bit of a different starting point where they would believe that earlier Israelite Society was preliterate even having no writing hardly any writing at all up until the monarchy so talking about the time of David and Solomon there which would mean if writing was just coming up around the time of David and Solomon then can we really be justified in seeing larger literary pieces like the prophet Isaiah or something coming into being so early with the origins of life now of course that's been refuted right because we have writing as far back as 3400 BC which is notably about two thousand years prior to even Moses so that's a very significant time frame for writing being in existence but
