Contract to Paint Portrait This Contract is made this the ____ day of ___________, 20___, between ______________________ of _____________________________________ (street address, city, state, zip code) , hereafter referred to as “Artist,” and __________________________ of ___________________________________ (street address, city, state, zip code) , hereinafter referred to as “Customer.” The undersigned Artist and Customer agree as follows: 1. Customer shall pay to Artist the sum of $______________on execution of this Agreement and the balance of $________________when the work is completed to the reasonable satisfaction of Customer. 2. The portrait is to be approximately _______inches in height and _____inches in width and painted in ________________________ (oil or as the case maybe) on a ______________________________ (specify quality of canvas or other material) suitable for framing. 3. The portrait is to be completed on or before ___________________ (date). Customer agrees to sit for the portrait at the following times: ____________________________________ ______________________________ (list dates and time of day). If Customer fails to keep appointments for sittings and the work is not completed within the time stipulated, Artist shall then be entitled to cancel this Agreement and keep the portion of the price paid on the execution of this Agreement. 4. If for any other reason the work is not completed within the stipulated time, Customer may, within _______days from the date fixed for completion, by notice in writing addressed to Artist, specify a future date for completion, and if the portrait is not completed on the date so named, the Agreement may be terminated by Customer, whereupon Customer shall become entitled to all sums paid hereunder to Artist. 5. ______________________________ (Artist or Customer) shall be entitled to make application for and obtain the copyright in the portrait.
