This professional development is provided to comply with the requirement that every school have at least one BICM who has received training in behavior analysis with an emphasis on positive behavior intervention and supports. MAJOR CHANGES: Not applicable. BACKGROUND: Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) Professional Development is a two-day training that addresses California Education Code, Section 56520, et seq, and the California Code of Regulations, Title 5. These regulations require the development of a Functional Analysis Assessment (FAA) and Behavior Support Plan (BSP) or Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) under prescribed circumstances for specific students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). A BICM is a certificated on-site staff member who conducts and supervises a student’s FAA and then develops the proposed BSP or BIP when appropriate. When an IEP team is discussing a student’s behavior that is considered to be serious (see BUL-5376.1), it is necessary to have the onsite BICM participate in the IEP meeting to assist in determining if a FAA is required. The BICM may also need to consult with and support the school team if a Behavior Emergency intervention is used (see BUL-5376.1). Throughout the school year informational flyers will be sent to schools from each Support Unit. Although this professional development is ongoing, enrollment in each session is limited, so early registration is recommended. Registration Directions: 1. Go online to the Learning Zone at https://lz.lausd.net; 2. Log in using your single sign-on username and password (the same sign-on you use for District email); 3. Click on the “Courses” tab; 4. Click on the “Class Offerings” link; 5. In the Program drop-down menu, select “Special Education;” 6. In the “Keyword” box, type in “behavior intervention;” 7. In the “Classes for the Next” dropdown, select “6 months;” 8. Click on “Search;” 9. Click on the name of the course for the date you wish to enroll: “Behavior Intervention Case Manager Training;” 10. Click on the “Enroll Now” button; 11. Click “OK” to confirm your enrollment; 12. Click “OK” again and close the existing active screen; 13. Check your LAUSD e-mail account for confirmation of enrollment.
