hi this is a training video for American Board for all the representatives in Arizona I'm gonna walk through the PowerPoint presentation that we currently distribute to go over how to do a presentation for the Arizona program so let's get started this is going to be a little bit rough because I hate to edit but what I've got open on my screen right now is the basic PowerPoint I'm going to walk you through I'm showing you the whole screen if I try and make it fullscreen it cuts a little bit of it off so I'd rather not do that Oh weird hmm does that so that's so we're gonna leave it like this so if you are doing presentations for us you should have received this PowerPoint already along with a presentation guide that walks you through how we like our presentations to be conducted for the state of Arizona there are a lot of caveats so we have this specific specific list for you of how we operate and what subjects we offer so if you are not familiar with PowerPoint all you need to know is you have to open the program this is the PowerPoint program that you see you'll see something over here that says play from start or you can go to slideshow but you want to go over here when you're ready to play it go over here click on the button I'm not gonna click it right now but click on the button and go through the power program to power program go through the PowerPoint one slide at a time we like to have this first slide up on the overhead as people walk in just as a sign to display what the presentation is going to be about so let's say everyone has just sat down and you're ready to start your your information session so what we like to ask our candidates our people to do is to start off by introducing yourself explain a little bit about how you came to work with us the odds are you weren't looking for a standard part-time gig if you're working with us to help train teachers in Arizona then you have passion for education so a little bit about why you think this is important I have never met a human that doesn't talk a bit too long when given the floor so what I always like to caution people who are doing this presentation against is over talking the more you talk the sooner people start tuning you out it's just a fact of human attention you've got about 17 minutes to talk at people before they tune out so try to make your words as farce and meaningful as possible and any time you go off script just make sure you're being conscience conscious of the amount of time that you spend talking we all like to hear our own voices but most other people don't like to hear our voice as much as we do a fact that I think I'm proving right now so let's move on you've you've introduced yourself you have gone over why you're there then we like to go to the next slide who we are and what we do so we like to be very upfront with people that were a nonprofit that was started in 2001 by the US Department of Education now each of the points listed on this slide we would like for you to walk through we would like for you to not be reading directly off the PowerPoint when you do it most of the knowledge in here should become second nature to you you should be able to say most of it without having to read off the off the slides so you should be able to tell people pretty quickly we're a non-profit you know we're an alternative route and we help career changers earn teacher certification etc etc without reading off the slide but do go through this point by point because each of the points on this slide is very important for the people that do our program they're the people who couldn't afford any other options so it's important to point out that we are a very flexible and affordable option so once you've gone through that you go to the how it works slide or the first one of many how it works slide walk through the fact that it only takes two things to enroll in the program a bachelor's degree in a background check you'll probably get the question you know what if my background what if my background is in I don't know chemistry and I want to teach biology or what if my background is in English and I want to teach history and the standard answer to that is it doesn't matter what your degree is then if you got a degree in English literature and you want to teach chemistry you can try to pass our exams and teach chemistry your bachelor's degree subject area is not any limitation and the background checks just a standard federal background check so what do you do once you're enrolled in the program you study forward and take our standard line is you study four and take two certification exams a subject area and the professional teacher knowledge exam take it past them and you complete Arizona requirements and that's all there is so please emphasize that it is a relatively straightforward program it's one of the more straightforward programs that gets you certified to teach anywhere really we have far fewer hoops than most other programs do so please do make sure you touch on those points now for the state of Arizona they have a couple of extra hoops you have to enroll in our program they get a letter of enrollment to take to a school district and then you have to apply for the teaching intern certificate so with these slides right here it's very important that you go through each of them each of the how it works slides familiarize yourself with the order that things have to happen in Arizona there's these steps cannot get out of order the the Department of Education out there is very very specific you have to do things in a in a certain order and you can't if you do one thing out of order you can't go back and just do the other things so as you walk through this slide and this slide and the next slide that follows make sure you have taken the time to familiarize yourself with this so that you can speak to the steps that it takes in Arizona to use our program again hopefully not reading directly off the slide each and every time so you work to have to pass our PT K you start with a classroom qualifier certificate which you then eventually parlay into an initial teaching permit that you use your first year in the classroom so again walk through each of these points as quickly as you can to walk through each of these points that you have to pass the NES in your subject area and complete the sei now this part right here is relatively important because basically this one line right here indicates they have to do six observations with an American Board evaluator in their first year so it's basically a mentorship but it's required and we want to make sure that that part is not glossed over because that's critical to their first year in the classroom it's critical for any new teachers first year in the classroom to be properly supported and evaluated so we want to make sure that they understand that as part of this so you've walked through the past three slides you walked through everything that Arizona requires one more slide I forgot about this the Constitution training that has to happen the first three years Arizona has a lot of steps there's a lot of stuff for them so after you've spelled all that out one of the most common questions we get sometimes the first question we get is how much does it cost we like to tell people we have two options and I would like for you to be familiar with the options such that this is just on the tip of your tongue every time you can either do an installment plan or you can do a one-time payment one-time payment can be split across two cards but typically we can't split it across three credit cards the installment plan you cannot enroll online we have to get some forms we have to process the payment we have to set up the recurring payments so you just can't set that up online so installment plans have to basically be sent in to us via fax or email we do the payment on the 15th of every month or the first payment is 298 and all nine payments are 298 and then there's the one-time payment what we call the lump sum if you can do the entire thing pay the entire thing at once we give you a discounted rate the discounted rate varies every week it can it can go between nineteen hundred dollars and twenty two hundred dollars but almost never less than nineteen hundred so we like to tell people check the website for the current promotion and it looks like you might be able to do it that way that is definitely a better option financially so we always tried to encourage people to do the one-time payment so at this point you might be getting close to your 17 minutes I can't see my timer on here to see how long I've been talking but you're getting pretty close to the end of people's attention span you've gone through how the program works you just touched on cost so now we like to direct people before they phase out to remind them that they can always visit the website when they have questions or when they get home and they forget that one step that you just talked about so I like to leave this up for a minute and tell them you know if you want you could just remember American Board org or you can try and write this down real quick write down the the phone number to call and ask questions to our Ruhlman team can answer those questions during regular business hours leave this up for a minute one thing I forgot to mention at the top of this is when you're giving this presentation you could do two things you can ask that everyone hold their questions till the end or you can let people ask questions as they go I highly recommend that once you're done introducing yourself and talking a bit about why you are helping to spread the word about the program I highly recommend you tell people at the start look let me get through this presentation and then I'll answer any questions that you have most of the time the questions they ask will be answered by the presentation unless they have a situation specific to them that they want an answer to so encourage people at the beginning to hold their questions until the very end after this slide we have about two or three more slides and then is what I would recommend you start taking questions once you've done you know here's the information proud of enroll circle back one more time to why they would choose our program why would you do this little nonprofit instead of going back and getting a master's if that's an option for you what about this program makes it should make it my first choice so this in a way is kind of where you sell the program most people have never heard of anything like it so we have to reiterate again that this is very flexible very affordable it's online it's state approved you can do it at your own pace those points really need to be driven home because that is the only thing that makes this program feasible for a lot of people the fact that they can do it at their own pace at home everyone who attends the presentation gets automatically enrolled in a seven day free trial there's no obligation but we do like to tout it to people we let them know you know because you attend this presentation you will get an email in your inbox with information proud of login but you'll be signed up for a free trial really hit home that this is seven days looking at the program in its entirety you can look at all the subject areas all the materials try the practice quizzes and just see if it's a good fit so it's want to hit home to them you're going to get this there's no obligation use the free trial and check and see if it's a good fit so once you've done that once you've reiterated why this should be your first choice and once you've talked about the free trial the last slide is the slide that we like to leave up while we take questions so once again say look American Board org here's the phone number here's the email I'll take questions now and this is typically when you would get questions specific to a certain situation like I my degrees in this and I did this will this work for me or here's my special circumstance so in as much as you can try and answer those questions if you can't our star standard line or what I like to tell people to say is you know that's a great question I think our enrollment team could probably answer that for you once you take down their phone number and give them a call that they would be real well equipped to answer that question and then at this point you could be answering questions for 20-25 minutes you can answer questions for five it varies a lot you'll find that you typically get the same sorts of questions over and over and over because people generally at this stage of the information gathering they need the same the same bits of introductory information so once this is done you need to send us the login sheet or the sign-in sheet and your invoice for the event within 24 hours if possible the sooner we can get the people in our system the sooner we can start to talk to them about you notice this program right for them so if you have any questions about this presentation or about what you're supposed to cover or
