moveing to the Czech Republic there is one thing everyone has to do or you have to do as an EU citizen move to the Czech Republic and one thing which you don't have to do at this point but you will have to do it soon anyway and uh it might be good for you to do as well so one thing which is mandatory and that applies to everyone coming to the Czech Republic as an EU citizen and one which is not mandatory but might be useful let's go through that thank you guys for joining my name is for those of you who don't know me I'm a co-founder co-owner of move to prct relocation experts um immigration agency in Prague helping people to move here from all around the world so the one thing you have to do as an EU citizen moving to the Czech Republic is to get or moving even visiting the Czech Republic is to get to the foreign police and get registered there within 30 days after your arrival that means or that applies to every visit to the Czech Republic so if you come here as a tourist you're a German and you come to the Czech Republic for a day like a road trip or something you should go to the foreign police and get registered there if you come here like even if you live here and don't have the registration certificate and you leave the Czech Republic come back then you should always get registered with the foreign police uh it does not apply in case you are staying in some accommodation facility so like in a hotel hostel or Airbnb if you're staying there you still need to get registered but the hotel or hostel or good Airbnb does it for you that's why you fill in the the white paper at the reception uh when you're checking in that's for the foreign police registration so you don't have to go there in person but if you come here and you stay with a friend or with a family member or just somewhere outside of these official uh facilities then you should always go to the the foreign police and get registered there I've done another video this is not the topic of this video so if you're interested in the foreign police registration just go to my channel look it up or go to our website mve to prod.com um then you go to the blog section and search for it you'll find it there but that's the mandatory thing you have to do the thing you don't have to do but it's recommended for a couple reasons I'll explain why is to get so-called Reg istration certificate um it's kind of half officially looking piece of paper you know it's um yeah it doesn't even have your photo it doesn't have any biometric details it's just like a bunch of letters like your name uh date of birth and in the place of birth all that so it's like nothing too serious but it officially confirms that you or it confirms that you are officially residing in the CCH Republic and that might be useful in some cases like one thing is which we encounter often is if you want to move or need to move your tax residency from wherever you live to the Czech Republic so you want to move to the Czech Republic because you want to pay lower taxes and you want to have tax residents in the Czech Republic then it's good to have a certificate that you really live here second thing for example if you want to get registered a car in the Czech Republic so you buy a car but if you don't have this piece of paper then you will not register a car in the Czech Republic it's just not possible they will not do it so that's another thing another thing is the foreign police I was talking about before because if you don't have the registration certificate you should really go to the foreign police every time you come to the Czech Republic so if you even if you go for a weekend or for a holiday or something every time you come to the Czech Republic you should go get registered for the foreign police will nothing will something serious happen if you don't probably not because they will not even find out because there are no borders within the EU so if you stay within the EU the the foreign police will not know so probably nothing will happen but that's your official Duty and you should do it you only don't have to do it if you already have the registration certificate if you have this piece of paper that's stronger than the foreign police registration so you don't have to go to the foreign police anymore it's another thing sometimes what we are now facing a lot when you try to get your kids for example to local school or local kindergarten they often also want to see that you live in that particular part of the city because generally speaking uh especially kindergartens are very full and they need to sort out the kids and they often sort it out by the place of res so if you live in prag 4 you should go only to schools or kindergartens in prag 4 but if you don't have a confirmation that you live in prag for officially that you reside there officially then it might be difficult to prove so this is another thing uh there might be other like also it's a step towards a permanent residency if you want to uh get it done I will talk about it in in my next video later this week about permanent residency for EU citizens which is a step towards Czech citizenship as well so if you plan on staying in the Czech Republic long term getting the temporary residence as soon as possible would definitely be recommended and one of the good steps and another thing is that as of now which is April 2024 it's still not mandatory to get the registration certificate but it will be the government already talked about it before the latest change in the immigration law which was last year in 2023 so they will either introduce it later this year or latest um next year when the immigration law changes again because it changes every two years the the not odd what's the other uh even no no OD OD every like three five seven n these kind of numbers so every year which is odd then the immigration law changes so latest from 2025 it will be required Anyway by the law and if you leave it for then then you will be facing or you will be like basically in with another like tens of thousands of EU citizens who will be forced to do it because it will be required by the law so if you do it now you will also avoid this uh hassle doing it next year um yeah so that's the that's the basically the whole thing why you want to have it and how you get it now so you always submit this application the temporary residence certificate application how it used to be called in the past now it's called registration certificate so you go submit this application to the Moi Ministry of the interior which is responsible for the place where you live so if you live in berau you go to the ministry of the interior in berno berno if you live in pen you go to P if you live in Prague and then it depends on what part of Prague you live in because basically each part of prag is bigger than pen so different parts of Prague have different branch of the ministry so you need to like go to the one which is responsible for the place where you live um you can go there in person or you can mail it to them but if you mail it honestly from the services we offer this is probably the easiest to deal with on your own especially because if you mess it up you don't really mess it up you know because you're an EU citizen so no one will kick you out uh we often or major majority of our clients I would say are non euu citizens and there it's a bit more complicated because if you mess up something uh as a third country National non euu citizen you can be kicked out from the country even from the EU you might not ever be able to come back it might be like serious consequences for your life if you mess up something as an EU citizen you might pay a fine couple thousand crowns or there might be slight complications like you're already waiting for the car to registered and you still cannot do it because you you messed up your application and it's 3 months later and you still still don't have the registration certificate so it might be a bit of a complication but generally nothing like bad will happen to you so if you want to try on your own uh be my guest do it try and you will see how it goes uh still recommend it to use our services because we make it easier for you but this is if there is one application you can get done on your own that's this one um you still need to keep keep in mind that if you want to mail the documents they all need to be Originals or official copies okay you cannot mail them just simple copies uh you cannot mail them just like scans printed out or whatever you always need to have physical documents ideally with like real stamp and signature so if you if you fill in the application form you need to sign it in like blue ink and S send the whole like sign thing um the same with lease agreement if you have a lease agreement which is like a physical signed lease agreement you need to send them either the original lease agreement or make a copy and send it to them as a but like a I mean official copy you go to a notary and you get it done there not like a copy you made in in your office or somewhere uh that would not be accepted by the ministry so that's um another thing also of course you should have all the documents checked because not every lease agreement will work for the ministry it depends on who is the owner of the place who signed the lease agreement if the flat is actually a flat or if it's something else like a business space or something it might sound stupid but I've done plenty of videos where I talk about this that not everything that looks as an apartment is an official apartment on paper for various reasons so check my other videos if you're interested in that um yeah anyway so you can either mail it to the ministry just be careful about everything you send them or or you can go there in person I would definitely recommend uh if you go in person then book an appointment in advance because if you don't you might end up waiting for a couple hours depending on the branch of the ministry you go to somewhere it's done like within half an hour uh somewhere you can wait for three four five hours depending on on the amount of people waiting there already um yeah so now uh what documents you need to get the registration certificate done so first you need to fill in an application form then you need to have a passport or national ID because if you're an EU citizen you can travel here also using your ID so you can use your ID also for this application um then you need one passport size photo like a good quality official photo so you go to some official photo studio um not don't do it in like the Metro photo boots Metro stations are those are not really good quality the ministry might not accept that photo then you need to have a proof of accommodation so that would be a lease agreement or confirmation of your landlord that you are allowed to live in the apartment uh something like that either of either of those then you need to have some purpose of Stay some documents on the purpose of Stay so if you came here for work that would be your employment contract if you came here for business that would be your trade license or your uh s all like limited liability company registration if you came here to study that would be confirmation of studies if you came here with no reason just because you like it here then that's fine as well you just check the other and in that case you need to prove that you have a local health insurance because if you technically it doesn't have to be local if you have the European health insurance card from the country of your origin you can use that as well but if you don't have that you need to get a local Insurance like a private insurance because if you if you are employed in the Czech Republic or if you're self-employed in the Czech Republic as an EU citizen then the health insurance goes automatically with that so in those cases you don't need to prove any insurance because it's certain you will get your health insurance card but if you if your purpose of Stay is different like student student or the other or family member uh then you need to have a health insurance then you just need 200 crowns in Revenue stamps uh yeah that's still there that should be also cancelled later this year when they basically they stopped printing them the revenue stamps now now they're just like selling the last ones but last ones might mean like billions so it will probably take some time before before the check post office runs out of them but once that happens uh the ministry will start accept cash and cards but as of now it's only uh Revenue stamps in check called KY um yeah then usually when we work with clients we submit the application on their behalf but we need to have so you don't need to go anywhere and we need to have power of attorney for that to be able to represent you before the ministry um yeah then you turn everything in if you're super lucky it can be done on the spot like if you go there in person if you mail it then it will never be done on the spot but if you go there in person and you get treated by the person who has the rights to do that then they can approve it on the spot they would go through all your documents they would say okay that's fine and they give you the piece of paper right away but that happens only if you meet the person who can actually do it which is usually the supervisor uh if you meet someone else who doesn't have the rights they will just accept the documents and then you need to wait officially the approval time is 30 days it can be faster it can take longer the ministry doesn't really care but honestly speaking this is a pretty simple application so if it takes longer than 30 days you probably messed up and you will never get it approved not the rule uh not like 100% rule but it's like that it's pretty simple application if you know what you're doing uh so if it's been taking a long time then probably there is some problem you made um yeah then when you are approved you go back to the ministry where you appli um you have to go and person in most cases I've seen the ministry mailing it to people but in 99% of cases you need to go in person again best to book an appointment in advance and they issue this kind of piece of paper for you the validity is for 10 years so you can live here for 10 years if you move away you should um return the registration certificate to the ministry of the Interior because it's a property of the Czech Republic but if you stay here the whole time you can either apply for permanent residence permit after 5 years which I would recommend and I will talk about it in my next video on Thursday in 3 days uh if or you can you can keep it for 10 years and then uh apply again so yeah you also remember that you need to report all the changes that happen in your life or you make in your life so if you get a new passport you need or new ID you need to report it if you change your name uh you need to report it if you get married or divorced if your marital change marital status changes you need to report it that usually goes with the change of name uh and the change of passport so you need to report all those and also if you move within the Czech Republic uh you need to report that as well if you change your address you have to report it to the ministry so that's it I think that's that's everything um let me see there are some questions but I will only answer those which are about the topic I'm just documents like that Czech Republic is still well couple years ago I would have said that this will never happen in the Czech Republic that this is the CCH Republic is way behind everything in the electronic uh sphere but now it's getting better actually when the Pirates got into the into the government the pirate party then actually changes of this type they they started really pushing it so uh things are getting better things are changing so now some of the things can be done online but not this yet and that will probably not happen anytime soon but the official statement of the ministry of the Interior is that all immigration related matters should be sortable electronically before 2030 so maybe if you stay here for the next 6 years maybe that will happen but if I'm now when I'm now hearing myself six years is a pretty short time to get this done but changes are happening changes are being made it's actually really getting better so maybe uh will stick to it but that's the plan
