as we approach the end of another year it's a great time to jumpstart employee performance for next year I'll talk about how to do that in this video hello i'm stephen goldberg of optimist performance bringing you practical tips and ideas on leadership team development and employee performance in the workplace we're at the end of another year and this is usually a time when managers do performance reviews evaluations with their staff and so it's a good time to identify a few things to improve now maybe you're already doing that but here's the kicker how often do you follow up on that do you wait til a year goes by to revisit that discussion and by then you've probably forgotten what you even discussed and what improvements have been made so instead make a list of what improvements you expect from your employees sit down and talk to them no matter which way you do your performance reviews what forms you use the concept is basically the same agree on one thing that they should work on that would bring the biggest return to the department to you as a manager and to them as an employee and then write down a goal for that you can use my goal planning form my worksheet to do that and walk through it with the employee look at the obstacles what could stand in the way work out solutions and action steps and then set a time to meet to review that in 30 days or three months the longest don't wait pasta now if you see the person making improvements along the way you don't have to wait for that 30 day or 90 day meeting to to recognize them do it right on the spot and if they're doing something that is the same as what they've done in the past in other words if they've forgotten about their goal remind them to get back on track remind them of the agreement that you made with them I suggest you also and what support do they need to achieve that goal you know change is hard and having the right support the right conditions will help them achieve that goal and that support is something that usually comes from their manager so have that discussion write that down too you could also use my performance record form to keep track of positive performance and things that need coaching for improvement so get going on your employee improvement performance for next year by following this process set one goal agree with them and then a follow-up meeting I hope this is something that you'll take action on and that you will see the benefit check out some of the other related videos there's one recommended for you right now subscribe to the channel if you haven't already give this video a thumbs up and turn on notifications so you get news of new videos as they come out check out some of the blog articles on my website that go along with this video and also there's forms and worksheets you could download thank you for listening and we'll talk again soon
