hello everyone welcome to Career talk in this video I am going to tell you the reality of background checks and how it is done it is extremely important to know this if you are going to change your job in near future or for that matter in long term because there are dedicated agencies like what I said in the previous video who are actually responsible to carry out this background check and one such agency is Matrix BS India it is a people Assurance company and as you can see they have screened 5 lakh 76 000 candidates annually out of which five percent people are actually flagged as red 700 company or the recruiter of the new company now we don't know what exactly happens after we share this information so let's say if I join a new company and I give my old company manager's name email ID and phone number for reference check so I have no idea of what these guys are going to do with this I am going to show you one email on screen now this is actually the email which was sent from the background verification agency in this case to the old employer not necessarily only to the manager that you have given but also to the HR so the email has gone from the background verification check Agency on behalf of the new employer to the old employer in the old employers it is sent out to the HR and to the reference email ID which you have given and these are the list of things which are actually cross-validated so if you have mentioned anything wrong on your resume or while you were doing the HR conversations for this new job so this is actually a process to validate that so as you can see they are asking to validate company name address employment period designation employee code last drawn salary supervisor name duties and responsibilities handled attitude and personal reputation of the candidate performance at work reason for leaving or any other relevant information and eligibility for rehire so these are some of the things which the background verification agency is asking from the old employer to confirm now let's assume if you have lied on your resume or if you have given some information which is not accurate then there is a high chances that in this verification and validation process it may come into light whether this is done for every employee or not is a question mark I really don't know whether these background agencies do these kind of you know detailed verification for each employee but they may absolutely do it for some employees and the example that I've shown you is something which I got from my friend it is actually a real email so that is why it is extremely important to be very smart when you write things on your resume let's say if your designation is team leader in the current company but when you want to apply for a job you want to apply for a project manager role so in your resume you should actually write two things one is role one is designation you should actually write the real designation or title in the current company as team lead but you should write role as a project manager these two can be always different and your interviews you should be very transparent that on paper my title is team lead but in reality I am doing a project manager role and these are the roles and responsibilities which I have executed so that way it is completely transparent to the new employer whoever is hiring you or to the HR in the new company that you are a team leader by designation but you are actually asking for or applying for a project manager role because you have done it in the past company so I hope this clarifies a lot of doubts in your mind sometimes the questions are also around technology so in this form there is no mention of Technology but you don't know when the person responds right whoever is responding to this email what kind of details are they going to share because you are not marked on this email so we really don't know if these reference checks are done for everybody and if done what kind of responses are given in most cases I would believe that the responses are pretty standard so nobody goes into that kind of detail of explaining Technologies Etc but it is a very thin line to work on so my suggestion again is try to be as honest as possible if you want to write something which is futuristic then play smart you can always include certain freelancing projects or certain trainings which you have done outside your work to show that you have gained certain skills which were actually not needed in your job but you have learned on your own alright that's it for today's
