okay um that was one day studies something um foreign foreign [Music] [Music] absorbed in over patient files foreign against foreign we are here today to strengthen NATO's integrated and missile defense I am delighted to welcome the signature by so many allies of the letter of intent and honored to have been invited to join the ceremony at the Madrid Summit NATO heads of state and government committed to the continued strengthening of NATO's deterrence and defense posture moving forward key strategic strengths such as the NATO military strategy the framework for the terrorists and defense of euro-atlantic area DDA and the NATO War fighting Capstone concept nwcc our leaders also committed to the further strengthening of NATO air defenses as a key element of our overall deterrence and defense improving our capabilities and our forces Readiness and responsiveness this commitment is even more crucial today as we witness the ruthless and indiscriminate missile attacks by Russia in Ukraine killing civilians and destroying critical infrastructure in this context I strongly welcome Germany's leadership in launching the European Sky Shield initiative it aims to enable European allies to procure these much needed capabilities better and faster and to optimize their costs it should also bring Synergy among allies with similar urgent requirements covering the full spectrum of the air and missile defense needs it should promote interoperability and their integration with each other and would NATO's integrated air and missile defense is an important effort to generate more resources and to ensure that the needed capabilities are procured and deployed quickly I very much welcome Germany's willingness to lead in the area of integrated air and missile defense the support of this initiative by a large number of European allies is also a tangible expression a fairer burn sharing the strengthening of NATO's air and missile defense will increase the security of all allies and of our alliance as a hope we need to work jointly making maximum use of the existing NATO structures mechanisms and processes to ensure that the alliance as a whole has the necessary senses interceptors and command and control the new assets fully interoperable and seamlessly integrated within the NATO air missile defense would significantly enhance our ability to defend the alliance from all air and missile threats let me also take this opportunity to commend the recent provision by Germany of Iris the air defense systems to Ukraine not only has the irisd already proven its operational value but it also will dramatically improve Ukraine's ability to defend itself philanthank initiative here at NATO HQ in the margins of our ministerial meeting underscores the key role NATO plays as a former bringing allies together and the key contribution of the german-led initiative will make the NATO integrated air missile defense even stronger in closing let me wish all the signatory success with a fast implementation of this initiative and I look forward and the Secretary General looks forward too seeing this initiative becoming a success in the near future thank you all excellencies you are kindly invited to sign the letter of intent now family photos
