hi friends in this video i'm going to show you how to start an ngo without much funds and also most importantly what steps and the sequence to follow during the journey of starting an ngo or a non-profit so please consider sharing this to the folks you think it could be relevant start working on that particular cause or the problem statement which fascinates you look for the other ngos which are already trying to solve the same problem and maybe collaborate or work for them or volunteer for them and it's a very amazing platform to try and learn the processes learn the things right in the beginning to avoid any expensive mistakes as you start and during the journey of working on the ground you would arrive that vision and mission you would understand the gap in the industry which you have to solve and maybe any unique solutions which you try and offer the second step is to identify the type of organization which you want to uh start off and what suits you the most as per your own requirement and journey so there are various types of organization like volunteer based organization service based advocacy based educational and other community and religious organizations so mostly volunteer based organizations are where you have a lot of energy and people you put together and you get an expertise on executing any project or ideas so you maybe work with other ngos you work with uh on during the crisis situation the second is the service based organization where these are the guys who take donations make any value-adding stuff and then donate and help the needy um through their logistical channels for example like goons akshay patra then coming to the third type of group is advocacy these are the guys who are more intellectually exploring in terms of the kind of policy reforms one could perform at a macro development macro economy and this also helps in terms of making right decisions for the government trying and support them with all your research and the backing and then educational institutes are also mostly set up as a non-profit or under the societies act so that's the another type of organization so try and figure it out what exactly you want to do and which organizational type suits you the most the third step is to start finally start the organization and now people might be mistaken that what is this buyer talking about starting the non-profit without even registration or any formalities or trustees and stuff guys to be honest it is not mandatory to start any social project without the certificate so you can actually start planning launching your non-profit and then slowly begin your journey of uh maybe taking up uh the required certificate as you progress and when i started my non-profit uh honestly i started it two uh two to three years back and slowly as i progressed forward like i slo i took the registration pan and everything okay so when when i say to start as you progress your work you would start identifying the like-minded people who would like to work with you like maybe the founders or or co-founders which will act as a core trustee group for you in the days to come second is to start identifying maybe potential employees or full-time or part-time or interns and even if you don't it's perfectly okay like as long as you have good group of volunteers who want to start with the work i think it's perfectly good as parallelly you start doing that i would suggest start identifying the name of the non-profit and as you progress or finalize the name you look for the potential domain name um if it is available with the same name if not try and revisit your name and see if in case you can try and finalize the name which is maybe available in social media a bit unique name which one could easily connect with and also connect with the cause based on the name as well so look to identify that try and start booking that domain name social media accounts open that start sharing your work and as you progress people will start supporting you during the journey and if needed and you don't have any money to start like people can still donate you money they might not get tax exemption and stuff but to be honest people who wanted to support they don't look for tax benefit to do something good work i mean it is just a byproduct or anything which comes along but it's not a key in terms of starting your own the fourth step is to actually register and when you can register there are three options in which you can register your organization the first is the trust deed uh trust act second is society's act third is companies act under section eight of the company right okay so now how how do you decide in which do you have to register i'll tell you firstly the minimum number of people you need to register in a either of these first is two which is in the trust and in society's act you need seven people in companies the act you need two and maximum it is 15. okay so with that you can decide on whether uh what works for you based on the number of co-founders to me trust act worked perfectly because it was me and my wife who started this and uh for societies that i've mostly seen uh the educational institutions form part as part of the societies act and in the company side to be honest there are a lot of formalities and filings and stuff which i wanted to avoid in terms of the logistical part like i would more focus upon the core work than the admin progress after you register after you have the trust deed here and you have already have got the name maybe logo and the domain name along with that all social media accounts okay so when you have all of these information it is very important as a practice to have a complete transparency of your work try and document as much as possible right from your inflows and like the moment you get any money you try and uh update and have all the information there and the moment you make any expenses you note down and you try and make sure that you have a complete record of transparency during the process and once you completely get the trust deed and stuff i would suggest take a rubber stamp as well um it will help you in the next process which i tell you um and the next part is to apply for a pan it doesn't cost you much like for the trustee it will cost you uh two to three thousand rupees if you do it on your own and for pan it would be like 100 to 200 rupees depending upon the latest fees um and after you have all these things three of these things open a bank account okay this is where uh this is going to help you um to collect the funds in a more organized way and also most of the big ngos have a proper bank account try and look for a current account which will be useful there are a couple of banks which provide you the account for free without any maintenance charges considering it's a non-profit so look the final step is to start filing things so that it will start creating a paper trail for your organization let's say i wanted to start my organization after i retire or after i get a financial security but what i realized is by the time i retire in today's world it's somewhere around 55 to 60. honestly the average age of an indian has gone down to like 63. so i don't know and especially with forward and stuff i i don't know what is tomorrow so i started the organization in my 20s as early as possible and even if i do the work at a smaller scale it is creating a paper trail it is creating the processes and stuff stuff which helps you uh in the long run by the time you retire or by the time you get uh relatively free this organization would be a 20 to 30 year old organization with a solid backup and that will help you in terms of any bigger projects which you want to take it in future so in your journey like it will take you maybe two three years to get 12a and 80g depending upon your requirement you can apply or there is an other work around as well let's say none of your work is going to start uh stop if in case you collaborate with other ngos who already have 2a and atg and maybe uh collaborate in such a way that they receive the funds the beneficiary or gets the work done and the donors get the exemptions as well which is needed so all of this can be possible with collaborations you don't have to be a one-man army and take up all the challenges on your own try and look for support and help and you would be surprised how this particular community is in terms of supporting each other looking for fcrs certificate if you are planning to take donations from the foreign institutions or foreign people and there are a lot of other special license like if you want to work in a tribal area then you require special state licenses as well and if in case you are trying to call foreign people and then employing them in india under your ngo that requires a special permission so figure out those things during your journey as you progress you will understand what it really requires to run the show and try and keep it as minimal as possible from a financial point of view i would suggest do not overburden yourself try and avoid as as many fixed costs as possible like tran maybe have a virtual office work from home employees or interns who do not charge a lot in terms of the kind of contributions they make to the organization so those are the
