How to eSign a document: online signature lawfulness for Quality Assurance in Australia

i'm malcolm foster i was on alpha council for 20 years president twice total of seven years well i'm just a a little old lot feeder that started feeding cattle way back in 1986. robin hart from kirwi light feeders and stockyard i'm ian king i'm the chief executive of ausmit limited well i was there almost at the beginning i joined alpha council in 1992 roddy hadwin was president and handed over to kev roberts and i i joined the council at that time and they had already started the concept of some form of accreditation scheme some alpha members not all but alpha members were keen to try to establish a way of i guess extracting a higher recognition for grain-fed products the feedlotters at the time realized that we had a particular product that stood out and was going to take us somewhere but it could only happen if it was properly identified and it it carried its identity right through to the consumer that approached osmet as early as september 1992 about the possibility of maybe having a program that would fit in from a livestock production point of view what had happened was the federal government had a select committee investigation into the feedlot industry and they got on a bus and drove around all these feedlots and weren't overly enjoyed about what they saw and the report came out said if this industry doesn't do something to get its act together the government will have to regulate it took about three years we probably started formulating the nfas in 1991 but it wasn't smooth sailing even within the industry our own body i had some pretty tough meetings that i attended as president and as the chair of of the committee that formulated the nfas but i think once alpha was able to get uh particularly the meat processing side of the industry to understand that that we needed to have our our product recognized and certified and knew we were coming from back with quality assurance and everything that went with it it it all took off i'm bryce cam the ceo of the cam agricultural group and the current president of the australian lot feeders association i would describe nfas as an independent quality assurance system and when you start and put words together like quality and system then you start to come up with the ability to be able to sell to our customers sell to the ultimate customer the consumer it is held as the shining light and the golden example of how programs can be implemented in industry in a in a meaningful and proactive way we were the first quality assurance program for agriculture in the world to me it started off as a discipline and initially it addressed three major community concerns care of the environment animal welfare and product integrity that the product was what it said it was going to be the feedlot industry has always worked on what does the science say while the program has evolved originally from a food safety and market access program it today places our industry at a very strong position it sort of forms the base of everything we do it's really gratifying to think that it just didn't stay where it started in fact that was really just the beginning of a very long journey sitting here around the table today 25 years after that its creation i think industry today has a lot to be thankful for those people that had the foresight to develop the program it's stood the test of time here it is 25 years later and it's so well accepted and going somewhere it has allowed for you know the sustained growth of the industry within australia and it's allowed the industry you know to to have a level of prominence that may be beyond our actual scale and size in terms of the impact that the feedlot industry has on the wider red meat sector here in australia i think nfas the program in another 25 years will still be adapting to the innovative technologies the innovative practices it will still be scrutinized by an independent third party which gives it integrity and independence and accountability and credibility but also it will still have the customer top of mind where everything that the program tries to achieve will have the customer front of mind the industry that started this program needs to be congratulated that it had the foresight to come up with a quality system for agriculture that is still in existence 25 years later it's tremendous that nfas has been able to achieve 25 years of serving the industry i think people who put the program together 25 to 30 years ago had no idea that it was going to last 25 years in its original form let alone morph and continue to grow and expand into the program it is today it's been handed over to very good hands again now i know and i hope that the management continues and the quality of the management will be such that nfis will be there for another 25 another 50 years from myself it's uh congratulations to nfas on achieving the 25-year milestone and we look forward to many prosperous and exciting years ahead
