where   charities were saying we don't need a website well  look at us now and that's the same with digital   fundraising so where I always begin with a client  is doing an audit I want to see where we are now   and get an idea of what we're doing well or what  we're doing not so well now I did another video   where I explained digital fundraising and the  basic components of it and that is your website   your socials your email your ads and then all of  the other online fundraising platforms out there   like text to give crowdfunding virtual events  things like that so let's start with websites I   am going to ask questions like do you do search  engine optimization are you doing your own   website or do you have a website developer are you  taking advantage of landing pages are you keeping   your copy fresh I mean this is by no means a  comprehensive list of the questions that I do ask   but these are some of the basics and then  I’ll do the same thing with social media   I want to know do you have somebody who's handling  your social media do they have a really good grasp   on growth and engagement strategies are you  using your social media to do prospect research   I’m also going to ask when it comes to your email  things like do you have a regular schedule what   program are you using let me see your template the  list goes on and on but basically I want to know   where are you right now and in asking these  questions I’ll get a better idea of your resources   do you have somebody who does graphic design  do you have somebody who's very familiar with   websites and SEO do you have someone who can  shoot and edit video do you have somebody   who's a really good copywriter these are just  some of the things that you're going to need   so once we've done the audit I want to get an  idea of your target audience and I’m not talking   about your donor database I’m talking about your  online followers so I’m going to go into your   social analytics and I’m going to go into your  google analytics and I’m going to get an idea of   demographics but further to that I’m going to do  a deeper dive and I’m going to creep for lack of a   better word some of your followers I want to know  what inspires them what drives them who are they I   want to get a really good idea of who I’m going to  be speaking to in the campaigns that we run next   I want to set some goals I in doing our audit we  maybe have identified the fact that we're just not   getting the website hits that we want or that our  social media following is really lagging or that   we have to up our email game so now I can set some  goals that are very specific and very measurable   which leads me into the next part which  is the meat of all of this and that   is the strategies that I’m going to use now  there's so many different strategies that   are involved for each for the websites for the  socials for the ads I’m going to be doing future   videos so subscribe and we can go through them  in detail but some examples let's just say with   our website that one of our goals is that we  really want to increase traffic on our website   well there's a couple of very specific strategies  that we can put in place to help us get there   search engine optimization is one another is  keeping our copy fresh giving people a reason to   visit our website so that could be a video blog or  a blog and we can also do SEO behind that as well   with our social media let's say that we've  identified Instagram as the platform for us   well there's very specific strategies  that we can use to increase our growth on   Instagram and create more of  a community and a following   and now that I have some strategies in place I can  work on things like resources who's going to be   responsible what are the timelines going to be and  create I do content creation strategies as well   once I’ve built a digital fundraising strategy  for a client and we've given them the road map   to how they're going to get there the next phase  the final phase is to evaluate it I am constantly   revising and checking my analytics and seeing  what's working and what's not now I know you   probably clicked on this video hoping that I was  going to hand you a digital fundraising strategy   well unfortunately I can't it is so unique for  each and specific organization there are tons of   templates out there on the internet but my advice  is to sit down audit where you're at look at where   you want to go and build those strategies of  how you're going to get there so make sure   to really good ideas for strategies that you  can incorporate into your digital fundraising plan
