everything politically economically is now uncertain it's not even clear whether David Cameron can hold on until October as he says he wants to his has been called a zombie Administration he's not a lame duck Vlad he's a dead duck and Mark uh thanks so much for that report give our viewers a sense of the reasons why the UK chose to leave what were some of the major factors motivating the pro Le voters well you know we're very much here in the in the realm of post fact politics it seems and also remember half the UK just over half the UK has voted to leave there are a lot of very disappointed and very shocked people around again almost half the population or half the electorate who voted to to stay but the main reasons the thing we've heard all day is you know take control back take our country back an idea of being fed up with being in their view dictated to by U you know by the EU in Brussels and also there's a kind of unspoken almost dog whistle here and that is immigration a lot of people just fed up with what they feel is the number of Eastern Europeans uh who have been coming in here uh especially with the migrants now also in Europe a great fear that Britain would be swamped because of the open borders of the EU it's not a fact-based conclusion but it's one that was held very strongly and certainly in areas of the country where unemployment is a problem and where the Immigrant populations at large Mark give us a sense of some of the data that's been coming out to us uh today here in the United States one showing that it appears that young people voted for uh the UK to stay in the EU whereas older voters decided uh that they were the ones who wanted to leave and also this sort of hindsight that people are having now saying well yeah I voted for it but I never never actually thought it would happen what's going on there well both both of those are true there was a really dramatic swing or or dislocate between the young voters and the old voters under 25s voted 7 75% to stay in the EU over 65s it's a mere image to vote out and so there's a great sense of resentment around the country now on the part of young people that their future has been determined by a sector of the population that won't be around to endure the consequences of this vote uh and as for your other question a lot of people who this is very much an anti-establishment vote to kind of give one to Parliament give one to the political establishment a lot of people who voted uh to leave probably did so it seems uh thinking that the vote would never carry the polling indication running up to the vote was that the remain vote would win by something like two to four percentage points so you could launch you could vote a protest vote make your point and then know that nothing much would happen well a lot has happened indeed indeed and speaking of the establishment Mark Prime Minister David Cameron says he's going to resign many see former London mayor Boris Johnson as the favorite to take over but who else is in play for the job well Johnson uh who was the main face uh of the leave campaign is kind of the initial front runner in here but oddly he's not very popular anymore in London London was one of the places in the country that voted very strongly to remain uh other people you know Michael Gove who who was his co-chairman of the leave campaign says he doesn't want the job nobody's yet jumping in with both feet even Johnson hasn't declared yet for the job Teresa may who's the Home Secretary is another uh name you hear bandied about but it's considered a little bit undent for people to declare an interest in this job now they will be around it's a bit of a poison chalice in fact the Tory leader ship here and the prime ministership here because this is going to be a very difficult period uh of governance going forward because of this vote we've already seen the signs today of what sort of Economic Consequences we're going to face here not a great time to be prime minister probably a better time to punt I'll also say that the the opposition leader here Jeremy Corbin uh is very much under pressure from his party he seemed to have not campaigned terribly enthusiast I asically uh for remaining in the EU even though that was the party position a lot of the core labor vote the core workingclass vote if you will on which the leave vote was depending did not turn out for leave and many of them it seems voted did turn out for leaf rather and voted to leave the EU when they were expected in fact to support staying in the EU real shakeup of the political establishment here both parties seeming to be dis connected from their core electri we are in uncharted waters Mark Phillips in London thank you sir appreciate it pleasure
