to build successful profitable booked out businesses while working part-time by charging more so that you can do more of what you love and still be profitable while you do it today we're going to go over something that is such a mistake that I see so many photographers making in their photography business and if you stop doing this one thing you're instantly going to start increasing your bookings for your business I'm really excited to give this to you because this is something that you can change today now before we get into it if you've been looking to get booked out and from getting bookings in your photography business what is that one thing you are sending over your pricing list in the emails okay I need you to stop sending over your pricing in emails the only way you should be sending over a price list and emails is if you are already completely booked out you are a well-known sought after photographer yeah that's pretty much it if you are not completely booked out if you're not charging prices that you currently want to be charging if you are not a famous well-known sought after wedding photographer you need to stop sending your pricing list in your emails now this is a huge mistake because let me walk you through the client experience I'm looking for a wedding photographer okay and I send out an email blast to 10 different wedding photographers in my area and what I get back is a ton of photographers sending over a price list so what happens I'm able to view the photographer solely as a price and I'm able to essentially price shop I can pull up all of the pricing lists put them side by side and go oh that's too expensive that's too expensive oh that's cheap enough and now you've made your photography business just a price and there's nothing that differentiates your business from anybody else's besides what you charge and that's why you'll often find that you can't raise your prices that's why you'll often find that you're getting ghosted because you're making yourself nothing more than a price to somebody even worse is when I see people's prices on their website because I'm like oh God then why would they ever email you they have all the information they need in terms of pricing or excuse me that's not all the information they need they have all the information they think they need on the website so why would they get in touch with you right and I know this is kind of polarizing I know there's people who are like I like to have everything on my website totally fine I've just found that with me being a luxury photographer myself it's a lot better to be able to tell people my starting price in emails so that they're not kind of like so I'm not getting on the phone with people doing consultation calls and it's a waste of both of our time because they can't afford me at all so what I do is I just list my starting price and I say hey you know so much thank you so much for getting in touch here are my starting prices here's some information and would love to chat with you on the phone to hear more about what you want because again how can I really tell someone what I recommend or what my exact prices would be for exactly what they want if I don't ever get on the phone with them right if I don't know what they want then how can I speak to what they want right I'm not interested in making my photography business a price list I'm more than a Priceless my art is more than a price list and me sending over just my packages and an email to be viewed with everybody else's is not due diligence for my business model and it isn't for you either so if you're finding that you're not getting bookings it's likely because you're making yourself a price now here's what I want you to do instead okay I want you to go in and change the template that you have if you have a template to send to all of the clients who inquire so when you get an inquiry moving forward what you're going to ask people to do is you're going to Simply ask them to get on a call with you list your starting price you can list a price range but we're not going to list our exact prices I personally like starting prices and then ask them to book a consultation call with you on that consultation call is when you get to understand their needs better and then you as the expert can then recommend what works for them and what they need and they're going to appreciate that so more because so much more because they have no idea what they need most of these people have never gotten married before they've never hired a photographer before you may know everything about the photography industry but they are completely clueless about it and so it really is your job to educate them but also to to speak through the value of what you do and why it's so important to hire someone who cares about what they want and who cares to get on the phone with them and who cares to talk about their vision for their day and then when you do that that instantly adds value to your service and that instantly lets them and if you do it right that instantly lets the client know oh now I see why this might cost a little bit more right now I see the value of what we're really getting right because these are forever photographs of our wedding day and now when you get people on the phone you're also making yourself more than just a price you're making yourself an actual human being they're talking to you through Zoom preferably and they're seeing you're a real person and building that emotional connection is so important as well because then you guys get to kind of rant or talk back and forth and discourse back and forth and decide through that if you guys are a good fit to work together okay so here's what I want you to do if you haven't already if you have a template go change it right now an email template and change the part where you just automatically include your price list okay that's why you're getting ghosted that's why you can't charge more and instead ask them to hop on that consultation call with you in roadmap to booked I teach not just the importance of consultation calls but also I give you a script of exactly what to say on that call so that you can go into that call feeling really confident and feeling like you said and asked everything that you need in order for them to be excited to move forward and to book you so it's two-pronged right they they send you the inquiry you send them just the beginning price and you have that first point of contact but then after that you have your next point of contact which is way more emotional much more personal and much more of service to the client because now you're finding out what they actually need and you're wowing them because you
