About the Author(s)
The Staff Development Committee of LAMA?s Human Resources Section
facilitates and promotes effective staff development programs in order to maximize
staff abilities to successfully perform their responsibilities and thereby improve
overall library effectiveness. The Library Administration and Management
Association (LAMA), a division of the American Library Association, is an
organization that encourages the study of administrative theory for improving the
practice of administration in libraries, and for identifying and fostering
administrative skill.
Beth Avery is the director of Library Services at Western State College of
Colorado. She is chair of the training committee for the International Association of
Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers, and was co-chair of
the Staff Development Committee at Colorado State University and Lamar
University Libraries.
Terry Dahlin is currently serving as the Staff Development Officer in the Harold
B. Lee Library of Brigham Young University. He earned his master?s degree in
library science at Brigham Young and has done advanced graduate work at the
University of Utah in higher education and public administration. He has served on
a variety of ALA committees, including on the LAMA Staff Development
Committee. Dahlin has published two other books and a number of articles on
topics relating to library administration.
Deborah A. Carver is Interim University Librarian at the University of Oregon,
where she has been on staff since 1990. She also served as Associate University
Librarian at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and began her
career at the University of Virginia. She has served on the LAMA Board of
Directors and several terms on LAMA?s Staff Development Committee.
