VOTING REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS -
In order to vote in the state of Oklahoma, you must meet the following
requirements:
You must be a U.S. citizen.
You must be a resident of Oklahoma.
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must not have been convicted of a felony unless a period of time
equal to your original judgment and sentence has expired.
You must not be adjudged an incapacitated person or a partially
incapacitated person prohibited from voting.
You must complete and sign a voter registration application form that asks
for your name and address, your political affiliation, your birth date, your
driver's license number and the last four digits of your Social Security
number (required if no driver's license). You may obtain a voter
registration forms as follows:
o At your County Election Board, post office, tag agency, library and
many other public locations.
o When you get your driver's license and when you apply for
assistance at some government agencies.
o Online at http://www.ok.gov/~elections/vrfrmshl.html or send a
request at http://www.ok.gov/~elections/vrmail.html to receive a
form by mail.
You may mail your voter registration application form to the State Election
Board. If you fill out your voter registration application form at a tag agency
when you get your driver's license or when you apply for assistance at a
government agency, the agency will mail the form to the State Election
Board.
You do not become a registered voter until the county election board in
the county where you reside has approved your application. When your
application is approved, the county election board will mail a voter
identification card to you that lists your name, address, political affiliation
and the polling place for your voting precinct. If your voter registration
application cannot be approved, you will receive a letter from the county
election board telling you why your application was not approved and
explaining the steps you need to take to become registered.
You may submit your voter registration application form at any time, but
voter identification cards cannot be issued during the 24 days prior to an
election. If you will become 18 years of age during the 60 days before an
election, you may apply for voter registration between 25 and 60 days
before the election.
IDENTIFICATION CARD REQUIREMENTS -
In order to obtain an identification card in Oklahoma, you must meet the following
requirements:
You must go to your local motor license agency and present both primary
and secondary documentary proof of identity and proof of full legal name
and birth date as follows:
o Primary documents include:
Certified birth certificate, as issued by the appropriate state
agency from your state of birth.
Passport . The following passport classifications shall not be
accepted:
B-1, temporary visitor for business
B-2, temporary visitor for pleasure
C-1, alien in continuous transit through the U.S.
C-2, alien and family in transit to the United Nations
C-3, foreign government official and family transiting
the U.S.
D-1, member of ship's crew who can not change ships
or employers
D-2, member of ship's crew who may change ships or
employers
I-185/586, Mexican or Canadian nationals with border
crossing, cards
I-444, Mexican or Canadian nationals with border
crossing cards
Q, international cultural exchange visitor
TWOV, transit without visa
WT, visa waiver pilot program for tourist, or
WB, visa waiver pilot program for business.
Identification documents issued by the U.S. Armed Services :
Military discharge (DD-214), unless specified not to
be used for identification
Military identification card or
Military dependent identification card.
U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs identification card or a
Oklahoma tribal photo identification card from one of the
following tribes:
Kiowa
Commanche
Apache of Oklahoma
Absentee Shawnee
Cheyenne-Arapaho (only tribal cards with color photo)
State of Oklahoma identification card issued by Department
of Public Safety.
Documents issued by the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service:
Citizenship naturalization documents, or
Alien registration card.
Out-of-state driver’s license.
Oklahoma driver’s license.
Finger image comparison, if a Department-generated finger
image is already on file with the Department.
o Secondary documents include:
Any primary proof of identification listed above not used as
your primary identification document.
If you are under the age of 18, an affidavit signed by your
parent or legal guardian.
Photo identification card issued by an Oklahoma:
public, private, or parochial secondary school,
institution of higher education, technology center
school, or
employer.
Oklahoma gun permit.
Pilot license.
Oklahoma lifetime hunting or fishing license.
Oklahoma voter identification card.
Social Security card.
Health insurance card.
Motor vehicle registration or title.
Marriage certificate.
Separation or divorce judgment.
High school, technology center school, college, or university
diploma.
Professional degree, certificate, or license.
Deed or title to property in Oklahoma, including a burial plot
deed.
Health, life, or home insurance policy issued to you.
Automobile insurance policy or security verification form
issued to you.
A valid U.S.D.O.T. health card, as required by 49 C.F.R. Part
391.
Digital photograph comparison, if a Department-generated
digital photograph is already on file with the Department.
You must pay a fee of $10.00.
DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENTS -
In order to obtain a driver’s license in Oklahoma, you must meet the following
requirements:
You must not have had your driving privileges revoked in Oklahoma or
any other state.
You must register all of the vehicles you own in Oklahoma prior to
applying for an Oklahoma driver’s license.
If your out-of-state license is valid, you must present it along with a second
approved form of identification (as listed above for identification cards) to a
Driver Examiner.
You must take a vision test. You may not be required to take written and
driving tests if you meet department standards.
VEHICLE TITLE AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS -
In order to register and title your vehicle in Oklahoma, you must meet the
following requirements:
You must complete an Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title (Form
701-6). You may apply for a t itle through the Motor Vehicle Division, or at
any motor license agency (tag agency) located throughout Oklahoma.
You must pay the required title and registration fees.
You must present proper evidence of ownership, such as an assigned
Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin for a new vehicle or an out-of-state title
for a used vehicle.
You must present proof of liability insurance coverage in the form of an
insurance security verification form, which must contain the following:
o Name and address of the carrier.
o Name and address where security may be verified, if other than the
carrier.
o Name of the insured.
o Notice that an owner’s policy has been issued pursuant to the
Compulsory Insurance Law of Oklahoma.
o Year, make and at least the last three digits of the VIN of each
insured vehicle. Fleet insurance is exempt from this requirement.
o Inclusive dates (beginning and ending date) the liability policy is in
effect.
o A warning to the owner that state law requires one copy of the
verification form to be surrendered upon registration and one copy
to be carried in the vehicle.
If your vehicle is not in use at the time of registration, you must submit an
Affidavit of Non-Use (Form 797), rather than liability insurance verification.
If you have a used vehicle, you must have a physical inspection
conducted by a representative of an Oklahoma motor license agency, or
the Motor Vehicle Division, for confirmation of the vehicle identification
number.
You must provide any lien information and documentation, if applicable.
When transferring ownership of a motor vehicle nine years old or newer,
you must provide a completed odometer disclosure statement, which is
generally incorporated into the title certificate ownership assignments.
