Does life get better after 23?
I’m going to give a different answer than what most other people have said. Do with this what you will. You see, these questions keep getting asked on Quora, and to me they are used too much as an excuse to trot out the same cliched advice about your 20s or 30s or 40s or whatever decade the questioner asks about. The truth is, your 20s don’t have to be a certain way.Reading about other people’s experiences of their 20s is an interesting exercise in itself, but you should never replace being interested in the experiences of others with expecting the same things out of life as those people. When you invest too much of your self-worth in how you measure up to the experiences of other people, you start to expect too much out of life. You read all the answers on here and you start to think everyone of those things will happen to you during your 20s.Newsflash: they probably won’t.Everyone is unique, and everyone goes through life at their own pace.Yeah, you might have an amazing time after you turn 23, but age is irrelevant. The question “does life get better?” implies too much investment in the future you and not enough attention to the you of today, the you of now.Life gets better when you focus on it right now. Life doesn’t get better when you focus on some arbitrary idea of improvement that comes with ticking off certain goals that society expects you to achieve. The only foolproof method to improving your life is this:Recognize that everything is perfect as it is. You are a living, breathing organism with the capacity to experience this vast universe we call home. That is literally all you need out of life.Treat achievements like a game, Sometimes you might win and get what you want out of your life situation, sometimes you might fail and feel down. But when you play a game, you often forget about the end goal of completing the game because you are enjoying the process of playing the game.Enjoy playing the game of life, and you won’t get bogged down with the notion of making it better. It will already be perfect.Read more about investing too much of your self-worth in society’s idea of achievement here.

Can someone share experience using Aha! product management software?
Thanks for asking this question. I thought I would provide a quick response here and am interested to see what the community has to say as well. You probably know a few product managers who are using Aha! as well, so you might want to tap your network. Anyway, I am a founder and the CEO of Aha! We started the company after running product and strategy in six software companies. We used Excel and PPT for planning and thought there had to be a better way. So, we launched Aha! in 2013 and have been humbled by the feedback and growth. We now serve 50,000 users at many of the best known Web and tech companies around. I thought I would share a few thoughts from our customers. There are two good resources to see what real customers think:1. There is a Twitter stream of comments from customers about Aha!2. You can also read over 70 customer stories about their experience with Aha!The following are just a few quotes from a few companies that you might recognize:"At Concur, we love the visibility and structure Aha! brings to the discipline of product management and roadmapping. In addition, product owners can now easily publish reports to various key stakeholders. This reduces redundant, time-consuming tasks while enabling our leadership to make solid decisions." -- Ram Tulasi, Senior Product Manager -- Mobile, Concur"Aha! simplifies planning, resource allocation, and reporting for 15 product lines that all rely on a single development team. With Aha! we are able to forecast and plan effectively with a much longer time horizon."-- Cy Caine, SVP - Strategy & Product Development, Haymarket Media"Aha! bridges the gap between the work and the vision."-- Scott Menzel, Senior Product Manager, GuideStar"Aha! has simplified the way we manage our digital banking applications products. We use the platform to plan out our roadmap the way we do in our heads. It’s like Aha! knew exactly what we needed before we knew we needed it."-- Nick Fantham, Channel Manager – Retail Online Banking, Bank of New Zealand"Aha! is set up the way that our brains think as product managers. It helps us in every aspect of our jobs and feels completely natural. Also, the Aha! customer care is worthy of an award — as is the pace and impact of their innovations."-- Michael Loiacono, Software Portfolio Manager, Siemens"Aha! provides much-needed, but oft-neglected structure around the numerous facets that comprise successful product management."-- Wen Zhang, Product Manager, WileyI am personally interested in how you heard about Aha! and what you think of it. You can sign up here if you would like to try Aha! for free for 30 days. A former product manager will be happy to help you get started.

Which are the worst engineering colleges in India? Explain. Personal experiences are welcome.
Progressive Education society’s Modern college of Engineering, PuneI was a student in this college from 2008. This college comes under the worst university in India, Pune University or as it is known nowadays SPPU. There is no dearth of problems with this university. If, any of you have been to Pune you might have seen students protesting in front of the university at all times of the year. Late results, wrongfully marked answer sheets, failing students so that they can earn extra money through re-checking, this university has it all. But, that is common to all the colleges that come under this university. So, what makes PES’ MCOE so much worse? The first day of WorkshopAbout 30 of us huddled in front of the teacher. From the very first sentence out of his mouth he started teaching in Marathi. Some of us who did not know the language raised our hands and requested him to teach in English, it’s not a lot to expect in an engineering college. To our surprise he replies to our request by asking how many of us don’t know the language and then looking at the workshop attendant and saying “We should take them to Raj Thakarey”. Now, this is 2008 the peak of the anti-north indian wave unleashed by that son of a bitch. Imagine being in the shoes of a 17–18 year old kid who came to a new city to learn, make new friends and enjoy the college experience he/she has heard so much about. Now, imagine facing bigotry from the same institution that is supposed to provide you such things. Yeah, it was just as traumatic as you are thinking. This was the pattern in this college. Lectures were conducted in Marathi and frankly most of the students preferred it that way because they came from state board and had Marathi as their mother tongue so they understood better that way. Not realizing that the business world would require one to be able to express themselves in English. The teachers loved it though because they couldn’t string a proper sentence together so it was a win-win for them. Not so much for us non-Marathi folks, not being able to understand the subject just killed whatever curiosity I might have had. But, this is not even the worst. This college discriminates against North Indians, Muslims, SC/STs too. How do I know that? Because, oppression is a great unifier. In the 5 years that I spent in this shithole I came across only 3 people failing a year due to Practical exams (In Pune university one can fail a year if he fails in 4 practicals in a year). Two of them were from Bihar and the third was yours truly , a north Indian. Now, I am not saying that my performance was really great or I was an exceptional student but I was always a good student throughout school. My teachers in school always liked me, I was one of the model students there. I just could not understand why my teachers in the college hated me so much. Now, I know why. Bigotry and hatred is not limited to the illiterate , even the most educated people can be blinded by regionalism/casteism. Even today you can go to the college website and see the people who run the institute , you’ll find people of a certain caste dominating. Before, you start thinking I am some traumatized dalit guy let me clarify I am from the General category too.PlacementsThey charged us in the name of providing training. This was compulsory for everyone no matter whether they needed it or not. I had already started preparing for CAT by this time and I was already pretty good at the aptitude tests but I still had to pay to be eligible for the placements. All of that would still be okay if they could bring any companies to the institute. The only companies that came to the college recruited 2–3 guys from the IT/CS branches , rest of us were left to fend for ourselves. Many of my batchmates are still struggling to land a decent job. Some of them are working in BPOs/KPOs. My parents had to shell out more money after I graduated so that I could get some real education and a job, thankfully I got one.Future ProspectsIf anybody is considering going for further education of any kind please, don’t go to Pune University and especially don’t join this college. It will fuck up any chances you might have of making it to a good institute. People in my batch were happy that they passed the exam. 60+ was cause for party demands. Nobody in my entire batch scored 70+. I graduated with a score in the 50s barely eligible to take the CAT. It didn’t matter that I scored 98.5 in the CAT my grad percentage always made sure that none of the top institutes considered me. Heck , the most coveted of the institutes through CAT IIM-A and B wouldn’t call me for an interview even if I scored a 100 in CAT all because of my grad score (I have 85+ in 10th,12th).Oh, and the ground that you see below does not belong to the engineering college. It belongs to the junior college in front. We were not even allowed to play in that ground. There are 10–12 collegs running in that small place. BE,ME,MBA,BBA,BA,BCOM,BSC,Junior college and what not.Parting shotI come from a military background. I had lived in 8 different cities before I joined this shithole but I had never thought about my regional identity before I came here. This place made sure I will never forget it.

What are some good tips for working with a freelance web designer?
Well, as someone who has (essentially) been a freelance web designer since 1998 (which as far back as I can recall actually coding and creating sites), run a web design business, worked for several agencies, and led freelancer support groups for years, I do have some informed opinions on this topic as you might’ve already gathered.Basically, today, websites are perceived as single “one and done” commodity items, as if you were ordering cheeseburgers or buying a box of business cards. The value of internet marketing as a whole has become drastically diluted due to the proliferation of do it yourself web template builder services and the ease of (initial) use for WordPress. So those two forces combined have made most people who aren’t programmers and developers see websites as single items with very minimal value. Things like SEO, return on investment marketing, content creation, user experience, are almost never touched on - and therefore almost never used by most business owners online. If my job were to fix every jacked-up site on the internet, adding relevant SEO terms and usability, directing actual marketing strategies, and making sure every site online could work on mobile easily I’d have more than enough work for many lifetimes. So since you asked for tips, I’ll provide a list of what comes to mind based on past experiences (and lessons learned):Have a budget and be honest about it. I could easily write out a list as long as my leg (and I’m around 6″2) of the potential clients I speak to regularly have “budgets” of $200 to $500 and refuse to budget on it, and then months later are angry and resentful when they realize their sites look like 20 year old PPT presentations, don’t work on mobile, have no SEO, can’t be found in Google searches for any terms, have no way to generate leads, and do nothing but undersell their representative “business owners.” Budget as you would (at least) if you were to pay to have an ad in your local yellow pages phone book, or to have repeated ads in a local newspaper or on a local radio station. Offer to pay for return on investment, enable the developer to provide those returns, and expect those returns. If you budget for an empty template, that’s what you’ll get.Only work with professionals. One of the reasons I started an official business was because I had heard countless horror stories from service providers and small business owners who would fixate on price, hire a freelancer based on lowest possible price, and then complain of horrific experiences (on both ends of the spectrum). In almost every case that I heard about (and see today) contracts are seldom if ever used, there are no boundaries set, no processes for dealing with revisions or explaining to the client how design decisions are signNowed, and never more than one or two conversations before work commences, if that. I’ve had potential clients flat out refuse to answer questions, demanding flat numbers; had one lawyer demand I train him in web design while creating his site for him in his office for $15 per hour and work during his stated hours (just deleted the e-mail); another lawyer ask me to train her in web design, social media marketing, content management, basically how to do her job but didn’t want to sign anything to commit…and on and on. Point? Expect there to be clear cut contracts with clearly defined roles and requirements on both ends.Have content or pay for it. The number one issue I hear about (and have experienced) in creating professional-level sites is for some reason clients do not (or cannot) create content for their sites. It just never seems to occur to internet marketing/web design clients that written words with direction must be created for a website. We press buttons, the sites appear within minutes, and then thousands of people find you on “the Google.” And of course, it doesn’t work that way at all. There’s actually a science to competent and professional-level web design and internet marketing - but since the public sees DIY commercials every three seconds, and the work itself is highly technical to say the least, it’s perceived that either “anyone” can create a site or that internet marketing the makes money for clients is random or magical (and I’ve heard both views from people). Having content written out for each page, having a menu of what pages you want used, having a knowledge of local and national competitors, have a realistic budget allocated…those factors will set you miles apart from most potential clients and make professional web developers such as moi eager to work with you and make you delighted by their efforts.

I have an idea for an app. What should I do next?
The first step-Build an MVP.People start their business with an idea, however, only a few of them are winning.“Is the idea good just for me or for many people?” - this is the key question that may keep you up in the middle of the night. Many entrepreneurs and individuals dream to establish a winning business with a great startup app idea. Even after spending months or even years, developing or improving their final product, they tend to fall short radically. The most common reason is that the founders do not communicate with their potential customers and tend to directly launch their final product thinking that the users will flock to use their product. It’s better to find out if the product you plan to launch is required by other people or not. The best way to do that is by launching a minimum viable product (MVP).Rather than releasing a full-fledged mobile app with all the features, you can go for building an MVP App, which will save you money and time and help identify the risks associated with your MVP App Development, at comparatively low cost. By adopting this strategy you may sleep well at night without distressing yourself with major product failure. What is a Minimum Viable Product?MVP – A minimum viable product is a technique used by startups and developers in which a new product is launched with just enough features that are core to the product.MVP product development incorporates only the core features set, good UI/UX and standards-based design. It is created to demonstrate the product idea, examine the key assumptions about interactions and determine customer reactions.MVP for startups is an adaptation of the final product that helps you validate your idea with your potential customers with the least amount of efforts. Launching a product based on your gut feeling about what the market might need can be disastrous both from time and money aspects. The MVP concept redefines this and ensures that you launch a thin product to get the feedback about the idea from potential consumers at an early stage, to follow their reaction and willingness to purchase a product. The concept of Launching the “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP) has become popular in the business and startup community over the last few years.MVP – the term was coined by Eric Ries. He is the author ‘The Lean Startup’ and one of the founders of ‘Lean Technologies’.Why it is necessary to build an MVP app?An MVP App is the quickest way from an idea to a business. It provides quick market entry and therefore real user experience that gives an opportunity to assess the potential of a project. An MVP App is the quickest way from an idea to a business. It provides quick market entry and therefore real user experience that gives an opportunity to assess the potential of a project.MVP is the crux of an appAn MVP app doesn’t include secondary functions it concentrates only on one idea. MVP is an app that has a single feature (or very less number of features) yet provides enough value to give it a spin and you start getting the customers with minimum risks.MVP helps you guess less and win moreIt’s not reasonable to spend months developing an app with a bunch of features just to find out that people do not need it. If you ask people the question: What do you want? They will say… Actually, people literally don’t know what they want and won’t be able to give you a clear answer. So only offer a few features, variants, options and then measure the data on which of those features are appealing to the users. The advantages of MVP app DevelopmentRaise funds when you need themMVP App allows you to show a reflection of your final-product to your potential users. MVP helps you to provide the innovative features initially and bring more features in the future. It is affordable to launch a thin version of your Full-Featured Mobile App in the form of an MVP and test the market traction and feasibility. Once you have the required traction it becomes much easier to raise the funds.Evolutionary Product Life-CycleSince the MVP Mobile App only incorporates the core features of your product, it becomes much easier to pivot your product roadmap based on customer requirements. Mobile App Founders can modify their product roadmap or change it completely to ensure that the users get the product they need based on the actual data that is gathered with the MVP.ROI-Driven InvestmentThe development of a full-fledged mobile app can take several months. In some cases, it might take a year or more. The cost of such a development is also very high. The MVP, on the other hand, reduces the upfront cost signNowly. Mobile App MVPs are built on the incremental value-add model. You can polish the design and features with each update. The Second step- Start with a product roadmap.A product roadmap is a powerful tool which shows the likely direction of the product and the vision of the key stakeholders. It helps steer the engineering efforts, win and retain customers, and help in strategic planning at the company level. In a startup environment, it’s about striking a balance between the product’s vision and customer requirements. In an established environment, the product roadmap helps get the buy-in of all stakeholders, get partners on-board and get the budget for the product.Challenges while Creating a Product RoadmapCreating a product roadmap is not an easy task, especially in the agile setting, where:things change rapidlythere are lots of new feature requestsevery feature request looks like a top prioritylast minute requests by the sales team &pressure by the management for new changesBecause of all these constraints and roadblocks, the product roadmap loses its essence and often bites-back with the added weight. What your Product Roadmap should do?The product roadmap tool is extremely important and it should be so compelling that it:drives the company strategy towards one goalgives the direction to the development effortscreates noise in the market with PR effortsgive a sense of confidence to the partners &clearly shows the customers where we are headedSince the product roadmap directs critical aspects of the business, it’s important to spend a good amount of time to show the high-level direction of the product to both internal and external stakeholders.Roadmapping TechniquesThere are certain techniques to create a product roadmap. These help you break-down your feature backlog and make more sense out of it. Here are a few road mapping techniques:Goal Oriented Product RoadmapOpportunity AssessmentScoring Framework to PrioritizeImpact MappingStory TellingTheme AlignmentSteps to Create a Product RoadmapThe agile product roadmap should align with the business goals. Based on different stakeholders, it can capture any or all of the aspects below:Product VisionRelease Plan for Internal & External StakeholdersStrategic InitiativesTarget Market & Growth StrategyNew Technology AdoptionMaintenance & Bug FixesStep 1 – CaptureCapture the feature requirements from multiple stakeholders like customers, sales, partners, management, support, engineering and others that are involved with the product in one way or the other.Step 2 – AlignAlign the requests with the product vision and business goals. Identify the strategic initiatives that you will take in order to signNow the business goals.Step 3 – SplitEither use the monthly or quarterly approach to display the release plan or split your list into these goals:short-termmiddle-termlong-termStep 4 – PrioritizeScore each point with some scoring framework and create a prioritized list, which tells a coherent story.Step 5 – ShareGet the buy-in from the key stakeholders, iterate and share the final roadmap with all.Above mentioned steps are the basic and necessary steps that any new app idea should go through. An MVP development will prove the concept validation of the idea and its viability in the first place. And a roadmap will guide deadline/targets/time allocation in which every process will occur. There’s is more that comes after above-mentioned steps: like app launch strategies/marketing etc. Developing an app is not sprint its marathon that needs continuous and steady growth over the years.“Over the last decade, I’ve launched many apps and SaaS platforms for entrepreneurs and early-stage startups who’ve gone ahead and made hundreds and millions of dollars using these platforms. If you have an app idea and not sure where to start, I can help. Feel free to connect with contact details in my profile.”

What is JWT, JSON Web Token for?
JWT provide mainly security for web applications, but can be used and for storing and exchanging session related information between the client and the server. JWT consist of several parts, which are decoded and used by the client. They have several benefits over cookies, but as I haven't used them, only read about them, it is all I can share.

What are some modern-looking LMS?
Funny you should say that a having reviewed our competitors there are many out there with powerful features, but what is the point if users don’t want to engage with the system? We think it’s important to:Have a clean UI: Simple colours, clear breathing space between items, good fonts etc.Be intuitive/familiar: The system has to be easy to understand and use on a daily basis. Not just for admins but all usersWork well on any device: As we become increasingly technologically advanced, users are using different devices in different locations. The design has to look good and work on these devices.Make complex actions simple/quickly: The boring things such as how to invite your users on, how to assign content to them etc. all have the potential to take up time. The system should do the hard work for you so that in the click of a button or two, you have completed your task.Provide value: It is great having a pretty design, but each thing also needs to be on the page for a reason - to provide value.A few of our clients have commented that having reviewed the market, in terms of UX and design Learn Amp (our site) is miles ahead of other sites they’ve seen. From our research, for them to look like they were designed in 2005 is relatively modern! Many we saw look like they were designed in the 90s and never updated. The reason for this is we have modelled the site on the best consumer apps out there, the likes of Netflix, Spotify and more modern apps such as Monzo and CharlieHR which have a clean, modern and effective UX/UI.We still have the powerful features but have a UX that backs it up and makes users want to use it. Happy to show you if you request a demo on the site
