What do you think about AliDropShip? Is this a better option than Shopify?
I will try to give some advantages and disadvantages of using these both dropshipping solutions. The main difference between these two is AliDropship has been especially created for aliexoress dropshipping when Shopify alone is created for inventory stores. Shopify requires additional plugins like Oberlo to work as a dropshipping solution.I will show you a simple comparison here starting from pricing before I discuss the features of AliDropship and Shopify.Wordpress CMS ($3.95 monthly), AliDropship ($66.00 one-time cost)Shopify CMS ($29, $79 & $299 per month) depending on the plan, Oberlo (free, $29.90, $79.90)Wordpress and AliDropship are so much cheaper than using Shopify and Oberlo. Other than this, Shopify is slightly easier to use, but I would by no means say that Wordpress is difficult once you’ve spent a few weeks using it.However, I’ll briefly touch on the AliDropship features here:All in all, I’ve heard some really great things about the AliDropship Plugin, I personally use it and find it incredibly useful! I mean just look at the Success Stories relating to stores that use it: Dropshipping Success Stories From Real Entrepreneurs using AliDropshipThe plugin itself comes in two versions, AliDropship Original Plugin & AliDropship Woo Plugin, both of which integrate with the Wordpress CMS, but the AliDropship Woo plugin is specifically designed to only be integrated with Woo-commerce Wordpress themes. The AliDropship Original Plugin is only compatible with Built-In ThemesNow, you may not either be interested in creating the store yourself, or may not simply know much about Wordpress and the functions… And that’s ok!AliDropship provide a ‘Custom Dropshipping Store’ service, in which they will create you a fully-operational store, that you can then go ahead and market. For more information on this and the range of pre-made store packages they have available.Otherwise, lets get back to the AliDropship plugin! There are multiple features of both the AliDropship Original Plugin & AliDropship Woo Plugin that make it ideal to have, these include:Pricing - Other than the majority of other services, AliDropship is a one-time payment of $88, but I’ve featured a link [25% off discount] so you can get it for $66 instead. This includes lifetime support!Comparing this to other services such as Shopmaster, Shopify etc, they come with monthly fees that can cost $20+ per month. So your one-time investment of $66 in AliDropship isn't much!Import featureProducts can be instantly imported from AliExpress with the click of a button using the AliDropship extension (which is a free chrome extension that integrates with AliDropship), alongside product reviews, which means that you can easily import these to your website, helping build trust and further increase your conversion rate.Product variables such as Size, Colour and others are easily added with the click of a button thanks to the AliDropship plugin, making the process of adding products more streamlined.Automated Price MarkupAutomatically track and price your products in relation to your supplier's costings, Yes AliDropship will take care of this automatically, every 15 minutes! This means that relational markups can be achieved as soon as your suppliers make price changes.Image EditingYou have the ability to import images directly from AliExpress, but some of the images that you import may have logos and other issues; Therefore with Alidropship you can edit these images before uploading to your store. You can edit such elements as:Size: Select the preferred size for the image by choosing the option that suits your needs most.Effects: Adjust lightning (brightness, contrast, etc.) in Lightning tab and find the perfect effect for your image in Effects tab.Select: Copy, move and remove selected image areas.Brush: Choose color and size of brush to draw anything you want.Text: Type in text for the image, adjust its size, color and placement.Sticker: Select a sticker to add sales information about the product. There are two types of stickers available: ready-to-use and editable.Currency ConversionsYou can choose to price items differently based on their geographical location, especially useful when taking advantage of psychological pricing strategies ($0.99) which would not directly translate into the same price if someone from the UK were to purchase (£0.78).Shipping OptionsBespoke shipping options can be made based on the item, weight, size and geographical delivery destination.PaymentOffers Multiple payment gateways (Paypal, Paypal one-click pay, PayU, Payssion, PayUbiz, 2Checkout, Stripe, etc)Abandoned Cart:Can automate emails to visitors who abandon cart during the purchase process, potentially offering them a discount to convince them to come back and complete the transaction. The dashboard is incredibly insightful and shows:Abandoned carts – the total number of abandoned cartsEmails sent – the total number of emails sentRecovered carts – the total number of recovered carts. Abandoned cart becomes a recovered one if a customer visits the cart again using the link provided in abandoned cart email notification he receivedRecovered orders – the total number of recovered orders. An order is considered recovered in case a customer visits his cart again using the link in abandoned cart email notification and completes his purchaseRevenue – the total revenue of recovered orders. There have been accounts where sellers have increased conversions by 30% through using the Alidropship abandoned cart featureAutomated Ordering System (One-Click)— The plugin allows you to bulk-order, and automatically transfer and send all of the order details to the AliExpress supplier with the click of one button, yes that doesn't matter if there are 3 orders or 3000, it’s still one click.AliDropship 25% DiscountWell, if you’re interested in getting a 25% discount of AliDropship, here it is: Enjoy! What are the advantage/disadvantages of using Shopify to build an e-commerce website?
I'm answering this in the context of Shopify vs a self-hosted ecommerce platform like wordpress/woocommerce or opencart for small ecommerce businesses.AdvantagesShopify is the cheapest, easiest, and most convenient way for someone who doesn't want to deal with any code to set up a store and start selling right away. If you're non-tech, you want your own ecommerce store, you're selling standard items and outgrew a marketplace like ebay or amazon, and just starting out, go with Shopify. 1. Much better UX/UI... for the right customerShopify is very clear who its customer is and if you are the type of business that fits its customer profile you are going to love Shopify much more than any other self-hosted ecommerce platform for the better user experience.2. Much more economical at the beginning1 year subscription at the lowest tier is about $348 USD including cloud hosting and customer support. Technically, if you use open-source ecommerce alternatives, you only pay for hosting which can be as low as USD$80 per annum since the software is free, but to get up to par with Shopify stores, you probably need some professional help setting it up. This can go up to thousands of dollars.3. Really good app integrations with SaaS servicesSaaS ecommerce service companies love Shopify because they have a customer base that is familiar with paying for services monthly. That's why you'll most probably always find whatever innovative new service you need on Shopify first before anywhere else, and some of them offer very good free plans. Conversely, SaaS companies don't really like platforms like woocommerce or opencart because... the people who use them don't really pay monthly subscription. So a lot of really convenient services are not integrated on these platforms.4. End to end service integrationBlog marketing? check. Shopping cart - check. Payment gateway - check. Inventory management - check. Printing address label - check. Shipping & Courier integration - check. The workflow for Shopify is so convenient it just works with a bit of tweaking out of the box. In comparison, none of its open source peers could provide this kind of convenience without some rather extensive customization.5. Security & ReliabilityShopify is a global hosted service, meaning they have people monitoring their network 24/7 for any attacks and they can help you deal with any problems that arise. In addition, their add-ons generally have a certain standard and will not pose the risk of giving you trojans or viruses or other monkey business. Plus, you can opt for SSL or even PCI compliance to accept credit cards and store sensitive information without having to know the technical details of how it works.Open source alternatives CAN get this level of security & reliability, but not without paying a premium for managed hosting e.g. WPengine hosting for instance.6. Better loading speedShopify has the advantage of being a globally hosted solution with strong infrastructure. This means they can load the website much faster for you because they optimized their hardware and software. In comparison, third party open-source solutions need quite a bit of work to catch up to this kind of speed. The speed difference can be anywhere from milliseconds to seconds, so could be potentially quite noticeable.ProblemsThe main problem with Shopify, however, is also due to its main value proposition - shopify customers don't do any custom code, value convenience and support and they're willing to pay for it. So you get a whole ecosystem of services that spring up around this concept.1. Pay monthly for every little thingThe most popular sales add-on on Shopify is the sales motivator app. This app adds... one line to the top of your screen telling you how much more you should spend on your order before you get a discount. For this service, you pay $4.99 per month. Need social login? Pay $9.00 per month. And so on. In comparison, you would not believe the kind of rich functionality you can buy from a one-time $28 plugin on a theme marketplace for woocommerce or opencart. The monthly costs may be low but it quickly adds up as you add more functionality to your site. Pretty soon you'll be paying hundreds per month and thousands per annum, and that's when a custom platform starts to look very attractive.2. Less customizabilityShopify app store has a lot of very good functionalities, but it pales to the wealth of plugins available for platforms like woocommerce, a lot of which are free (yes there are free, bug-free and very powerful plugins, kind of like having your cake and eating it too). In addition, because Shopify only allows you to change a certain part of its functionalities, it is not as customizable as open-source solutions that can potentially allow you to change mostly anything.3. Content managementWell duh. Shopify is not a content management system and its optimized for selling products. If you want to add a lot of rich content like videos, carousels and whatnot on your site together with the stuff you want to sell, don't go with Shopify.4. Service lock-inSure you can export your orders, customers and all that other data from Shopify, but chances are you won't, because it's a lot of hassle and you lose whatever custom setup you have on your site too. But remember shopify is a hosted solution. As with all hosted solutions, your data and website is not 100% yours. If they decided to change their fee structure, come up with some unreasonable policy or to implement additional fees for close to standard features (social login anyone?) , there's not a lot you can do about it except suck it up and do what they ask. Once you're in, you're in for a long time. For this reason, I don't really encourage clients to use shopify as a short-term solution if they are planning to jump to another small business ecommerce platform like Woocommerce sometime later.

How would I grow an engaging Instagram audience for a luxury lifestyle page?
You can try influencer marketing to grow your page. It’s effective as long as you use a reliable platform for it, if you ask my opinion, i would like to recommend phlanx for startup businesses

What do self-taught web developers wish they had known before they started?
I’m the co-founder and Dean at Flatiron School, a coding bootcamp that teaches beginners how to program, but I’m personally self-taught. So I not only help beginners learn to code every day, but I’ve also gone through it myself. I’ve found that “what I wish I knew” is sort of a fallacy. There’s no fairy dust to sprinkle on your code that can just make learning suddenly easier. It can be difficult. And most of the time, it takes some trying, failing, adjusting, and retrying to understand how you learn, how you work, and what you even need to know.I just had to put in the hours to get better, but there are two things I didn’t know were important when I first started out that I wish I did. If I’d known these things, it would have made the learning process a bit more efficient. Here’s what I wish I knew:1. Learning how to work with other developers is really important. When you’re teaching yourself, it’s tempting to measure how much you know by how much you can accomplish in a certain amount of time. I wish I knew that my own personal velocity wasn’t as important as my ability to work with others. I’d think, “I got from point A to point Z in a week. Next time, I want to cut that in half,” when I should have been thinking, “How do I get from A to F, while someone else gets from F to M, and another person is going from M to R.” Because this is how programming actually happens in the real world. When you’re self-taught you have to spend a lot of time working alone, but it is absolutely critical that you learn how to work with other developers. It’s not just about communicating, it is also about dividing a project up so you don’t step on each other’s toes — so you aren’t overriding anyone or breaking anything. Even if you’re a new developer, becoming good at working on your part without breaking other peoples’ parts can make a huge difference in how far you’ll go as a programmer. So, even if you’re teaching yourself, you shouldn’t learn alone. Look for local Meetups where you can connect with other aspiring programmers; start study groups with friends; join the coding community. You can also try Flatiron’s new Community-Powered Bootcamp—it allows students to drive their own learning through our full stack curriculum while still connecting with a powerful community of students on our online campus so you can learn through collaboration.2. Knowing how something works is different than knowing how to use it.There are a lot of architectures and patterns in programming. When you start teaching yourself, you likely have one of two options: (1) you can ignore them or (2) you can use them without necessarily knowing how they work or why they exist. For example, if you never feel the pain that object orientation addresses then you can use object-oriented code with no understanding of why it’s better, or you ignore object-oriented code entirely and write everything procedurally.I didn’t do a good job as a beginner of understanding why certain patterns and architectures existed. I either ignored a pattern because I didn’t understand it or I used it blindly before—finally—everything eventually clicked. I should have looked for that “click” moment earlier, and spent more time learning how and why things are built as opposed to just how to use them. This is why, at Flatiron School, we break a concept down into its parts in order to help students understand how it works. To understand how an engine works you have to start with pistons. Similarly, before we explain a Ruby wrapper around a database, we explain the database without a Ruby wrapper. You should try to go one layer deeper into the most important concepts. In cases when this isn’t as useful or efficient, you have to make really conscious decisions about how deep to go, and that does take some experience.I was also fortunate to have done a few really important things right. Here’s what I did know:1. Never, ever be afraid to put yourself out there.Always put yourself out there. Talk to the programmers you admire. Even the super famous ones can be surprisingly accessible. As I taught myself to code, I’d go to conferences and stop my favorite programmers in the hall, or I’d write a blog post I was proud of and email it to them. Most of the time, they were incredibly generous. They’d help me promote the article, and I’d get really valuable feedback.A lot of beginners are afraid to just signNow out to great programmers, but they shouldn’t be. In my experience, almost everyone was supportive. And if I hadn’t signNowed out, Yehuda Katz wouldn’t have offered to have lunch with me and Ilya Grigorik wouldn’t have tweeted about my blog post. Every piece of positive, constructive feedback was absolutely worth the times I had to hear something hard, or nothing at all. 2. Try to be your heroes. Always mimic programmers you look up to. I remember thinking, “I want to write code like this person — oh, they tried writing a book? I’ll try writing a book. They wrote a library? I’ll try writing a library. They have a blog? I’ll have a blog.” I would imitate the successful programmers doing what I wanted to do in every way. None of the libraries I wrote ever took off. None of the books I wrote ever took off. None of the blogs I wrote ever took off. But going through the motions taught me what it was to be a professional programmer — and all the stuff that goes with it.3. Read the books, even if you don’t understand them. When I was first learning, there were probably only five Ruby books in existence, and I had read them all. I got the chance to talk about them with a programmer I admired. Afterwards, he told me he really appreciated that I’d read everything. His compliment made me realize that if you’re going to be a part of the conversation and the community, you should try to know what you’re talking about. Even if you don’t understand what you’re reading, just do it. You will at the very least learn the seminal authors in your craft. Here are a few books to start with:Learn to Program by Chris Pine is a good book for people who haven’t programmed in any languageProgramming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmers’ GuideAgile Development with Rails by David Heinemeier HanssonWeaving the Web by Tim Berners-Lee is a good source history and context for what we’re doing todayBetween teaching myself and teaching others, I also learned these five huge things that beginners should know:1. How your code looks absolutely counts. You are writing code for humans. How your code reads and looks is very important. Having very good indentation, not leaving comments or broken code, correctly naming your variables, having method names that match the languages style and syntax — these are all critical. Beginners should pay attention to what their code looks like from the start.2. It’s better to be proficient in one thing than an expert in nothing.Nothing will ever replace the basics. Beginners often try to keep up with technology in the same way that advanced programmers do. But all the languages are the same when you’re a beginner; it shouldn’t be a priority to use all the newest, hottest tools when you’re starting out.If you’re really good at one language and you can use it to build amazing things, no one is going to care what language you used to make them. Beginners shouldn’t care about the languages they’re using. They should care that their chosen language matches their goals, if they’re getting expertise and depth and in it — and, of course, if they love using it.3. Learning to program doesn’t happen all at once. Learning how to code isn’t going to be a constant, continuous accumulation of understanding. It’s going to be an S-curve, with troughs of not really getting it punctuated by massive increases in efficiency. You just have to be diligent and get through the troughs because this is going to keep happening throughout your career. Remind yourself that if you keep going, it’s going to make sense eventually.4. Ruby might be a good place to start.(2) is more important here. Specific languages don’t matter so much as a beginner, but at Flatiron School, we have strong preference for starting out with Ruby before covering more languages like JavaScript. Matz, the programmer who created Ruby, built the language to make other programmers happy, and in my opinion, Ruby really does value your happiness. It embraces complexity, individuality, and multiple approaches to every project.Dutch computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra once said, “The tools we use have a profound (and devious!) influence on our thinking habits, and, therefore, on our thinking abilities,” which means that programming languages can actually change the way we think about problems. Thinking in Ruby is not myopic or restrictive. It’s a liberating, expressive way to think, and it’s no coincidence that it is also used to build awesome things. If I had to learn again, I’d still start with Ruby.5. Totally fall in love with it. A lot of programmers, including myself, will tell you that you have to fall in love with coding to really learn it. Honestly, it’s difficult to get through the tough parts without loving it. But realize this: the surest thing that has ever moved humanity forward is a leverage on technology—science put to productive use. Learning to code will allow you to change the world. How could you not want to be a part of that? If you’re sitting alone reading code and losing heart, remember the opportunities that you’re unlocking by learning to code and how fantastic this moment in time is—let that get you through it.Finally, always remember that the journey is the most important part. It’s impossible to just know things in programming. But coming to know them is the best way to really understand them — and to better understand yourself as a programmer. It’s almost important to note: I’m self-taught, but you don’t have to be. Take a look at how we teach people to code in our Web Developer Program and Community-Powered Bootcamp. There is so much more to say than what I have here—we’ve actually started collecting answers to this question here. If anyone wants to add to this list, feel free to leave a comment!

I have my first client who wants me to create a website. What are some things I need to do/know? Is it better to use Wordpress f
You should probably stick with what you are comfortable with until you have the confidence / knowledge to excel in uncharted waters. That said, this is not rocket science, they already have a couple of sites - so find out what is 'not working' for them with those and what direction they'd prefer to go in - what functionality you need to supply, what users / markets they are targeting and build on what is already there. They run WP, so explain to them what WooCommerce is and how sticking with the platform can eventually evolve into a robust ecommerce and marketing solution. Investigate caching solutions and CDN's that may take the load off of the server.Social Media is a constant time demanding and easily messed up platform(s) - you could potentially damage their reputation / laws / industry standards and good will if you make rookie mistakes - explain the risk of having a part time working student as their point person and see if they want to proceed.Do not forget about analytics and reporting - a large part of this type of job is analysing, forecasting and tracking behaviour / sales funnels (even though there is currently no commerce component ever user interaction is a funnel of some kind - you are telling a story that leads to an action - its your job to ensure that happens and optimise for it)How should you charge? As much as you can and as often as you can. If these people want you to do the work, then its your responsibility to charge them so you make out like a bandit by discovering how much they are willing to pay - this line is a fine one - but when I started didn't charge enough to pay my food costs and almost starved myself to death working like a dog - don't make that mistake. Charge a bare minimum of $1,200 per week - whether that is staged or hourly is up to you and them. You will log in countless hours you are not aware of yet - at the start of this career you will work around 18 hours a day to keep up with the learning curve - but in a year or 2 it will drop to a constant 12 - 16 hours. I've completely approximately 1,000 projects in the past 6 years - every project starts with me asking what is their budget and how stable the business is / how they are funded. Find out the maximum they are willing to spend, come in on the fine tipping point that makes them feel they are getting a bargain and added value. I've never charged less than $10,000 for a project - some take 2 days, some take 2 years - no one ever thinks you are less skilled if you charge 10x more than competitors - keep in mind I was once starving and still charging what initially seems a large sum for most newbies. Do not eat costs of WP Plugins / themes / functionality - anything you spend needs to be costed and invoiced to the client - when you write your plan make sure that is all 100% costed and they are aware of any 3rd parties involved - don't BS them that you wrote a plugin if you grabbed it off a repository and do not use 'found' plugins - steer clear of themeforest themes - security is not something a sweatshop creator cares about. If you build a unique theme, keep it light and speedy - include as few things as possible and keep to this mantra 'minimal viable product' - not a line of CSS or JS that is not fundamentally needed for functionality and design - every line can be a security risk or bloat that is not needed.Security is always an issue - on average across the sites I administer - there is around 100 hacking attempts per day, its an all day everyday issue - every line of code is a possible exploit and every user transaction is possibly a hack - its your job to prevent that if you do not have a security firm attached. I'm not being melodramatic - the client will take you to task / court if this goes wrong - do not think a client is on your side, no one cares about you, the second that site is bsignNowed or goes down - you have no friendly interaction - everything is hostile and an emergency. If you are in a class / sitting an exam - they don't care - 3AM they don't care - dead spouse they don't care.If you manage to get through all that, it gets harder once you get the job - this is a competitive industry and someone will steal that job from you - always maximise your money and minimise your risk exposure.Scope creep is going to happen to you, you are not confident enough to avoid it yet, you will learn a lot about yourself very soon - you may not like or want to - but you will learn you are either a complainer or an action oriented achiever - complainers need insulated in-house positions with a low work load - achievers are who complainers hate to work for.Good Luck.
