When has a store or restaurant changed their policies because of something you did?
Actually, this large box store was supposed to, and even PROMISED to, change their policies because of something they did to me, but unfortunately, to this day, they never did.Almost 15 years ago, I had a nail in the side of a tire. I always had purchased tires at this big box store and trusted them completely. Big Box store tells me I need a new tire and it would take a couple hours before my car was finished.I called a friend who promptly picked me up to go to the mall not too far from the big box store. As was customary, I filled out the paperwork and gave my keys. PLEASE note that the paperwork has your address and contact information and unless you separate your keys (I do now), chances are, your house key is on your key ring! The worker told me that they would call me as soon as my car was ready and it should take no more than a couple hours. My friend and I head to the mall for some mani’s and pedi’s along with shopping! Perfect day for girls, right? WRONG!!!!THREE hours passed and no phone call from the big box store. I didn’t think much of the time but I had other things I had to do later that day so we headed back to the big box store.Approximately six months prior, I purchased a very nice, used, low mileage Lincoln Towncar Cartier that was in mint condition. I had just received a bonus from a client on a kidnapping case I solved in 24 hours (a whole other cool story). so I justified paying about double of my original budget for a car. I LOVED my car and worked hard to own such a fine vehicle! My friend and I get back to the big box store and walk up to the counter. The worker who helped me earlier, saw me and literally RAN from the counter and disappeared. I just KNEW something was wrong. We waited at the now empty counter for almost ten minutes. I was getting nervous, my friend telling me that I should have gotten a massage and was worried about nothing, stressing out, etc. She was trying to ease my mind. I looked around and didn’t see my Lincoln anywhere. I noticed that there were seven (my lucky number so I remember) work orders on the counter with the matching keys on each order. I remember thinking that was a poor way to take in keys. Identify theft was finally getting recognition, not to mention there was house keys with the address right there. The manager of the big box store and the worker finally came to the counter. Both looked very uncomfortable. The manager told me he was sorry but my Lincoln Towncar Cartier, (my BABY), had been stolen.I worked in the legal profession at the time so questions automatically poured from my lips. When? How? Where’s the video? What did the police say and where was the paperwork from the police? Why wasn’t I called? In order, here are the answers that were given to me:When? Approximately ten minutes after I dropped my Lincoln off (this tells me that there’s a good chance the person who stole my car was watching and waiting for the ‘right ‘ vehicle to steal). How? A man (worker gave a minimal description) asked the worker for the keys for the Lincoln and the worker simply GAVE HIM MY KEYS because this man asked for them! After five minutes, the worker figured out that he had just made a BIG mistake and told the manager.Video? Nope! This big box store only has video in the store, not in the automotive areas.Police? The manager said that they decided not to call the police until I came back and could make that decision! I found out later that the manager immediately contacted corporate and they told him not to call the police. I believe that they were hoping that I would just deal with my insurance and the community wouldn’t find out about this screw up.My friend knows me well. She grabbed my arm and wouldn’t let go until I calmed down. I might be a female and there were two burly men in front of me, but I kid you not, if not for my friend being there, I would have beat these men so badly, they would have ended up back in puberty!I took some deep breaths and looked the manager straight in his eyes and very slowly told him that my car was NOT stolen, you (the big box store), GAVE MY CAR AWAY! I couldn’t find the appropriate words to explain WHY the police should have been called IMMEDIATELY and then I should have been called! My gosh, THREE hours had passed and my car could be anywhere by now!Long story short, my Lincoln was used in an armed robbery, an attempted armed carjacking and was found two states away on an Indian reservation with teenagers driving it! This was during the TWO WEEKS it had been missing.During these two weeks, the big box store decided that because they are self insured, it was better for them to have me claim it through my insurance company! AND they pretty much accused me of trying to ‘enhance ‘ my losses. My video camera, my regular camera, my audio equipment etc., was all in my vehicle due to my line of work. What is even sadder is I purchased a lot of my equipment from this very store and they could have easily looked up the receipts that I eventually provided them.Round and round I went with the corporate office! They now REFUSED to cover my car (that wasn’t found yet), or losses, now including a rental car. They stopped taking my calls. I don’t like to use my contacts for ANYTHING, but I was so frustrated with this big box store being a big, corporate bully to me, I finally made a few calls. Some of my clients were news networks. When they needed good information fast, I was their person! I directly called two local and two national news personalities and told them what happened. ALL agreed that not only would they be happy to help me but this was actually a newsworthy story and ultimately could help consumers, such as myself, be protected from this happening again. The next few days, calls were made, not only to the big box store, but to the store’s corporate office in another state. The news programs wanted to let them know that they were going to send a news crew to the store where my car was stolen and to the corporate office. Would the big box store like to have a representative at the front of each location defend their actions to the news crew.Wouldn’t you know it? I received a call that very day from the corporate office. They now wanted to cover every penny I lost and asked me to sign a confidentiality agreement (I had a couple attorneys verify that as long as I don’t give their name and a few other pieces of information, I can write this). I asked them for a few things in return. One, I asked that they CHANGE the way they take charge of customers keys. That the keys not be accessible to just anyone. Remember, I saw seven work orders with keys on the counter. The person who got my car could have easily went to my house if he had taken the work order that had my address. TWO - video be placed in the automotive section of their stores. They agreed to these two demands but to this day, I have yet to see the changes in any of the stores I’ve visited. These are not hard changes. AND, the two changes not only protect the stores but more importantly, the customer!Whats interesting is their competition big box store heard about what happened and CONTACTED ME! They implemented those two policies in their stores! Although this big box store is not as big as the one that gave my car away, they spent the money necessary to protect their customers! I give them a LOT of credit! I was also a member of this big box store (I canceled my membership at the other store when they demanded I go through my insurance) until I moved to another state and unfortunately, they have no stores here.Ultimately, I got my Lincoln back that had a lot of damage. I had to ‘purchase ‘it (for a very good price), back from the big box store and had it fixed. Heck, I even had it blessed because of the bad mojo. The guy who took my car was caught a couple years later and I was right, he was watching (shopping) for the right car and unfortunately, it was mine. He said that he had done it before because it’s so easy. In a way I’m glad it was me because someone else may not have had the people I knew who could help. The news story wasn’t done, they sincerely were just happy to help.PLEASE, when you leave your keys with any place that is going to work on your car, separate your keys! They don’t need your house key right? Make sure that they are taking appropriate care in the storage of your keys. And if you are a member at the big box store, think twice. They gave away my beloved car and wanted me to take the responsibility because they knew they had power and thought I was just a nobody. They really didn’t care and they still don’t, otherwise they would have changed the two things I asked for, which ultimately, would have protected YOU!

How much time does it take to cure acid reflux?
Acid reflux, or GERD, is a very common disease which affects more than 60 million people. In simple words, it is a problem that is caused when the mechanical valve at the end of the esophagus does not function properly, and it does not prevent the acid in the stomach from backing up into the esophagus. Moreover, those who suffer from acid reflux have some symptoms that can be annoying and troublesome. If you want to know more about this topic, you can read the tips and guide below. However, there are many ways to stop these symptoms from happening. Why should you suffer when you can do something about them? Here are three quick tips for treating acid reflux. The first one is actually the easiest. It has been proven that people who suffer from this disease deal with these problems mostly at night and not during the day. This is because at night, when you relax, or you are lying down, gravity allows acid to travel up into the esophagus if the muscles are weak. During the day, when you are sitting, or when you are standing, gravity works to your advantage and prevents this from happening. The treatment for this is very simple. You only have to slightly elevate your bed at the top. In order to do this you can put some blocks under the legs of the bed's head. You do not have to add too much height; four to six inches should be enough. The second tip you can follow is to neutralize the acid. This can be done by using the tried and true medication, antacids. They come in tablets and liquid. Some people prefer the tablets because they are easier to carry with you, but others like the liquid form because it relieves some of the symptoms as you swallow it.However, there are also the new treatments which have been developed after some research, and they work at the source of acid reflux by preventing the acid from getting out of your stomach. You can follow also some herbal and natural treatment. These methods are also very effective. They neutralize the acid and create a protective layer for the stomach and the esophagus. Plus, they are preferred since there is no risk or danger of side effects. These three quick tips for treating acid reflux can make your life much easier.I know a very good book on how to treat acid and heartburn. The title of the book is "Heartburn No More". The Book is the #1 best selling acid reflux ebook in the history of the Internet for a reason…Thousands of women and men of every age have completely cured their acid reflux condition and gained complete freedom from digestive disorders naturally, without drugs, antacids or “magic potions,” simply by using the clinically proven, scientifically-accurate step by step method found inside this amazing heartburn freedom guidebook. There’s a cool trick to kind of force your body to stop acid reflux which is worth looking at as well: Click to access your free download

What are the home remedies for a cough (severe) due to acid reflux?
Your main problem is acidity and reflux. So, try to control acidity by eating healthy non fried, non spicy vegetarian food. Try to have frequent small meals rather than big larger spaced meals . Acidity is mainly when you have empty stomach for a longer time . Avoid caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee too much . Drink plenty of water to keep your throat always hydrated . Cardamon is a great acidity reliever . Keep it in your mouth often and just keep the juice going inside your throat even while sleeping. There’s a cool trick to kind of force your body to stop acid reflux which is worth looking at as well: Heartburn No More VideoI am facing same problem as you. This is caused because of Acid reflux. It is said that prevention is always better than treatment. Acidity happens generally because of obesity and bad eating habit. If you are still suffering from cough in night; I will suggest you to start PAN D medicine ASAP. This medicine needs to be taken 30 min before your meal. your cough will be gone within couple of days. But you will face same problem again and again. So to prevent this you should reduce your weight and maintain your diet. Do not eat spicy and hot food, take multiple small meal instead of one full meal, do not eat and go to bed immediately, drink curd daily, drink max to max water, do not eat junk food and my personal suggestion is drink Gooseberry(amla) juice before going to bed everyday. It will reduce your acidity also its Ayurvedic, so no side effect.

How does a graphic designer think?
I can’t speak for other graphic designers, but I think in pictures. If you present me with a message you would like to get across to a sector of the community, the ‘target audience’ I will look for a visual solution. The reason why we can work in very many different mediums, is that it is really irrelevant how the message is delivered, in terms of materials and technology, what matters is that the message the client wishes to convey is correctly displayed, in time and space. For this reason, especially when brainstorming with the client, I try to think ‘outside the box’ beyond budget constraints. This freedom makes it easier to release the clients ambitions so he expresses his dreams for the project. At a later stage, although perhaps even during the same meeting, we can take control of the concept and tether it down to the reality of budgets, logistics and timescales.Once the concept has started to gel with both parties, I will retreat to the studio and start a process of research, and mock-ups.The rest is more technical, in some larger studios, a design team would take over the project at this stage, to work up a few different concepts for client approval, and drive the project through to implementation, production and launch, freeing up the chief creative to move on to the next project, although the chief creative will still probably ‘sign off’ on each stage, to ensure it is faithful to the original concept and maintains a high quality.I hope this helps.Angela.

As a former homeless individual, what do you want to share with us?
When i told people i was homeless and they’d say “well you can’t be, you dont live on the streets, you dont smell, you just don’t look homeless”You dont have to be living on the streets to be classed as homeless. When i was around 13/14 years old i was evicted out my house with my mum because in the divorce with my dad, my mum said she doesnt want child maintenance fees (in the US you guys call it child support) if he paid for the mortgage of the house, they both agreed and signed it in court.4 months down the line, we got a letter by the mortgage company that they have received no payments and will be contacting the bailiffs. My mum went to court every week to be seen by a judge of her case but her hands was tied, we couldnt live in the house because it wasnt ours, it wasnt mortgage free. The mortgage company rep was extremely rude and heartless. The judge shouted at him in court “this lady has gone though enough, and yet you prance in here thinking you own this court room” i’ll never forget that. The judge said her hands were tied also and couldn't do anything about us but give us 4 months to prepare. My mum phoned our local authority (kind of like a state in the USA) to say we was being made homeless and they told us they would have temporary accommodation for us.4 months goes down the line and we’re packing all our stuff up not knowing where to go (my mum was made redundant at this time). The baillifs come knocking at our door while i was at school, told us to get out and any stuff left over we have a week to collect it.my mum picks me up from school and told me we’re going to my auntys house for the night. The night went and we ended up living at my nan and grandads in the same room together in a little box room for over a year. My grandad was deteriorating with the amount of stress put on him because of us.My mum burnt out, me suffering many mental health conditions(major depression, anxitey and PTSD), my school found out and my head teacher( principal) mcalled my mum into a meeting, my head teacher told her if i need any money for necessities, traveling to school (it was about 3 bus journeys away or a 20 minute train and an hour walk to get to school). He also said if i need any extra support like a laptop for homework he will provide me with one (my mum never accepted these offers not because she didnt want to she wanted to repay them back and she couldnt)As time went on nothing was improving, so my schools safe guarding team got involved, she marched down my local authorities building, demands to see the head of housing homeless people, wrote a very strong letter saying “… is completely overwhelmed by the stress, he has his GCSE exams to worry about but also his own health you need to house them NOW!” My head teacher signed this off (he was extremely respected by my local authority) and within about 2 weeks they found me and my mum a place to live, the school gave me a Christmas hamper filled with cans of food, a turkey etc. I am forever grateful and still to this day keep in contact with my head teacher, my teachers etc. Without them, i wouldnt of got 3 GCSES (that isnt a lot, but i over achieved my prediction on the school) passed 2 BTEC level 1 and 2 business studies and art and design. i went to college (Americans call it high school) where i got my BTEC level 2 dipolma in Health And Social Care, and my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health And Social Care.Ive now been accepted into university to study Mental Health Nursing.the moral of the story is people dont have to “look” homeless to be homeless, i was well washed, had clean clothes etc but i didnt have a home to go to. Without all those safeguarding policies etc in place id probably still be sleeping on an airbed in my nan and grandads box room and sharing a room with my mum.America is at a point where they will collapse morally and fall behind in the devloped world. without better welfare systems in place and safeguarding messures (protecting children and vunerable adults) like us in the UK, the US could easily implement a NHS service (where i was treated of no charge for my mental health issues) but cutting the their army defence by 20 billion (wouldnt even make a dent for the army) but Americans are a “fight for yourself” type of people.I know if there wasnt any child protection laws and the “every child matters” policy in schools, the help from my grandparents for letting us stay there for well over a year, i wouldn't be where i am today, studying something close to my heart to then work somewhere thats even closer to my heart.

What is the most effective heartburn remedy?
By Jessica Mulvihill MoranThere are simple changes that patients can make to their diet and lifestyle to help them manage the discomfort of their acid indigestion, according to Dr. Anish Sheth, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor of medicine at Yale University.I spent months, even years searching for a way to end the heartburn that I suffered. This helped me no end: Heartburn No More VideoI think this video answers your question. I’m a pretty visual learner though. The text:Are you one of the millions of Americans suffering from acid reflux? Did you know actually 50% of America suffers from this? Billions of dollars are spent every single year on things to suppress that acid reflux right? Those burps that you get up acid coming in your mouth. I dont want you to be spending youre money on this stuff and I know the companies that produce it are gonna hate me from making this video but you have to really understand what the root cause of the issue is. Its not the fact that youre making too much acid, acid reflux right? Some people think that. Theyre burping it up, they feel like theyre making too much its actually the opposite of that. Acid reflux is actually your bodys inability to produce as much HCl or which the hydrochloric acid in your stomach is it needs to digest the food and to maintain that homeostasis of the gut.Often acid reflux is the sign of age pylori. So Im gonna show you some easy in natural ways that you can start implementing right away to hopefully make us inside feel better, have more energy and not to worry about acid reflux. It can be embarrassing, you know you get the burps, the hiccups, stomach the heartburn, you have to take up your medication and have it before you eat a meal can be pretty inconvenient and if we do anything at Fit. Life TV its to bring more inconvenience to you. What can we do? In a second Im gonna show you juice recipe that will really help with it but first lets talk about tangible tips, tools and strategies that you can implement in your life. So number one, I want you to start eating unprocessed foods, foods from the farm, food from the land not from some plant that they put in boxes that sits on shelves for years with the stability life this to the roof. Got to start eating healthy foods from the farmers market, from whole foods preferably organic if you can get your hands on it. Number two, probiotics. Your gut bacteria changes every 20 minutes.80% of your immune system comes from your gut, 90% of the serotonin which is that happy chemicals produced in the gut so you wanna make sure that youre feeding yourself good probiotics as well as prebiotics, restricted starches. Things that like the celery, of this, feeds that good bacteria coz you are not what you eat, you are what you are what your bacteria eats in your body which produces that healthy colony. Number three is fermented foods. Fermented foods are absolutely amazing and they help feed that good bacteria in your gut. Number four is high quality sea salt. Celtic sea salt has over 88 trace minerals in it or you could get pink Himalayan Sea salt and its absolutely amazing for you. I want you to start eliminating food triggers.Food triggers are things that we talked about with our coaching students that can trigger allergies such as sugar, dairy, wheat, alcohol, caffeine are more common food triggers so I want you to start eliminating those as well. Number six is one of my favorite things, we made a blog post it was 99 things apple cider vinegar is good for. Yeah 99 things apple cider vinegar is good for. This stuff is absolutely amazing! I try to get one or two tablespoons a day, mixed up a little bit of water. Its gonna give you more energy, its going to help balance out that internal digestive system. One thing Id recommend is if you do have acid reflux maybe try putting a teaspoon or a half a teaspoon of this in water and drinking it 10 minutes before meal. Its gonna help build more HCl in your stomach so that you can digest the food.Alright so those are the six things, were now gonna make a juice recipe. Come on over here, what do we got? We got one cucumber, three stalks of celery, some collard greens and you know I love this things, we have a half of a Granny Smith apple, green apple has a little bit less sugar than red apple. Its not quite as sweet either. Were also going to add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and this is the acid reflux juice recipe. Its gonna help you out! Here we go, hmm, that apple actually has a nice kick to it. Apple cider vinegar I probably put about two tablespoons in here, you could back off a little bit if you want to. Its really, really good.Love this juice recipe. Alright so at that time who won the juicer? Remember next week if you wanna win the juicer scroll down to the bottom of this blog post, leave a comment below about how your life is changed by implementing some of the strategies and tips that we talked about on Fit. Life TV. Todays juicer winner is Timothy Bermudez! Timothy started watching along in making our smoothie recipes about six months ago. Hes noticed great improvements with his eczema. His wife and him also started making natural homemade baby food for their daughter. Talk about super parents! Use this Kuvings juicer to boost your familys health and keep us posted on how you feel. Congratulations Timothy! So hopefully you enjoyed these tips my friend. Make this green juice, leave a comment below.Im gonna giveaway one of the Kuvings juicers to somebody who tells me about juicing and how its impacted their life specifically what Im looking for this week is if juicing has helped you deal with some sort of gut problem, you know maybe its acid reflux or something? Its help to us. Leave a comment below and will pick a winner for next week. As always Drew Canole, give this video a big like, share this with somebody that you care about. Its all about the movement and I want you to do this with me as a Fit. Life coach, Im impacted by the stories that I hear from other people in our communities so remember were in this together. Ill see you soon…

How can you gain practical experience on programming distributed and large scale systems in your private time?
My first software engineering job allowed me to build components and new features for several distributed systems serving different markets across the world. However, I was a junior back then and my exposure to building large scale systems was quite limited:I hadn’t built any of the underlying layers myselfI wasn’t closely familiar with all caching mechanismsI had no clue how everything scales under the hood and what DevOps practices was implemented for high traffic casesI couldn’t explain some of the architectural decisions of designing the database schema or other oddities that seemed to violate design patterns or best practicesI had little to no exposure in building high-scale systems and optimize programming code for performanceWhen I’ve switched to full-time freelancing and later on founding my own company, I had a couple of cases that required more analytical thinking for platforms that generated a solid amount of traffic dealing with large volumes of information. My computer science education helped me explore some of the problems and find some theoretical solutions for solving these problems with actual code. What helped me with verifying my theories and get some actual load was designing a set of use cases that resembled a practical project with the right amount of traffic and data.Content populationWhen you design a platform that is supposed to store large volumes of data, you can easily flood it with tons of information - millions, tens, or even hundreds of millions of records. While browsing the application and running different queries against it, you can easily find areas that may need improvement - through optimizing database queries, caching various areas of the site, denormalizing the database or using existing layers/storage methods to serve some information for better scalability.Every application can handle even the most suboptimal requests with just a few users online and a dozen records in the database on a cheap $3/mo server. Complexity and speed increasingly become a problem exponentially as traffic and data grow with time.Infrastructure setupOne of my top choices for testing scalability is using low-cost limited server infrastructures that can scale on demand. One example would be DigitalOcean with their $5/mo containers and internal network tools that let you create load balancers or internal private networks that would manage your applications.Even if our customers pay thousands of dollars a month for their infrastructure, we set up testing servers for $20 per month and try to break our code there. You can easily host your solution on a $5 droplet and see how it works in practice. This may not be sufficient if you’re eating up a ton of RAM for booting your application, but you get the point.Later on, purchase a set of $5/mo droplets and connect them within the same network. Detach the web servers from the database, incorporate external tools and services on separate droplets as well. See how it all plays out with several containers that handle the load, deal with data replication, failover cases and the like.Traffic replicationYou can use ab or siege from a Linux box and run some requests that test the concurrency and stability of your replication. There are numerous stress and load testing tools that you can sign up for and run against your containers. Be wary of firewalls or IPS/IDS systems running in-between as most sane hosting vendors would prevent you from causing DDoS attacks on your infrastructure. You can even purchase a $10 gig from Fiverr that’s supposed to bring fake traffic for SEO or advertising purposes to your website. I’ve found these to be quite handy when you offload the fake traffic to a third-party provider and work with the application yourself in the meantime - monitoring slow loads and possible hiccups in signNowing CPU limits or running out of available memory. At the end, you can take it a step further by incorporating something like Netflix/chaosmonkey in your production environment. The guys at Netflix designed something that would cause random failures in your infrastructure by killing instances, causing data overload or anything else that may happen with the hardware or the network. This kind of tests may be invaluable in testing the resilience of your application and the ability to deal with chaotic problems with your infrastructure.

Can I get rid of acid reflux at age 75?
So I saw my GP and, after antibiotics for a presumed throat infection didnt fix the problem, was given the diagnosis that would take over the next 18 months of my life: acid reflux.Video:: Heartburn No More (TM)It wasnt until a year and a half later that I learned that I didnt have acid reflux after all. I had another problem with similar symptoms, but a very different solution (and might help explain why someones acid reflux pills dont work). After two months of taking it nothing had changed, except by now I felt burning in my throat and kept losing my voice in the morning. At this point, I started worrying. I knew that trouble swallowing, persistent sore throat and a hoarse voice are all red flags for throat and oesophageal cancer.Various drugs were prescribed over the next year, including Zantac, which reduces acid a different way, and the antacid Gaviscon, which prevents acid from rising up.Traditionally, reflux sufferers are meant to do four key things: reduce intake of alcohol and spicy foods to avoid irritation to the already sensitive tissues, eat smaller meals, eat no later than three hours before bed and raise their beds head by six inches so that gravity can help keep the acid down. This sounds so simple, but ends up controlling your life. I had to sleep in the spare room as we couldnt work out how my partner could sleep flat and I could sleep raised. And my new sleeping position hurt my back.Id spend weeks avoiding alcohol and cooking tasteless meals, to no avail. And when I did allow myself wine or curry the fear that they might be causing awful damage stripped any enjoyment.By this point, I was on twice the normal dose of lansoprazole and swigging Gaviscon from the bottle when my symptoms woke me at night.Using my private insurance, I saw Marcus Reddy, a gastroenterological surgeon at Spire St Anthonys in Sutton, and my consultation was a revelation. Mr Reddy began by asking how I knew I had reflux.
